"Should I be unfamiliar with the Flower Board?"
Newton stood up and glanced around, the strange sensation in his right hand causing him to smile wryly.
He had learned the specific name of the door: the Gate of Truth. Although he didn't know exactly what it was, it significantly enhanced his Alchemy skills. Just by touching it, Newton could gain a wealth of knowledge, but touching came at a cost; this time, he had paid with an arm.
"I just wonder if other living beings can serve as a cost."
With one arm clothed, Newton felt slightly uncomfortable and sighed.
"You're awake?"
An elderly woman approached. Though she was old, she appeared quite spirited, her expression tinged with impatience.
"Did you save me?" Newton asked.
It was common knowledge not to provoke a doctor, as you never knew when you might need their help.
"Yes, that old fellow Makarov brought you here. I'm just a doctor," she replied.
The old woman walked closer.
"Sit down; let me see how your body is recovering."
Newton obediently sat on the bed, allowing her to examine him.
"Well, you're recovering nicely," she said, nodding. Her expression softened a bit.
"My name is Poluchika, the consulting pharmacist for Fairy Tail. The potions you created... are quite interesting."
Newton felt a bit shy; Poluchika gave off the vibe of a stubborn yet kind-hearted grandmother, making him feel like a junior in her presence.
"I'm merely standing on the shoulders of giants," he replied, glancing around.
"Your notebook has been taken away."
Poluchika sighed.
"The things recorded in it are quite dangerous. Do you even realize what you've created? That Explosive Potion or that terrifying weapon has caused quite a panic among the Royal Family."
Newton nodded and then looked at Poluchika.
"So, will I be taken away then?"
"No, but the Royal Family will likely have some demands for you..."
Poluchika looked at Newton with a complex expression.
"Alchemy isn't something that just anyone can do, but very few can reach your level, especially considering how you managed to save that girl afterward."
"Well, I just used one arm to become part of her body. She hadn't breathed her last yet, so I was able to save her."
Newton smiled as he glanced at her.
"I know what you're trying to ask. Resurrection doesn't exist. The composition of a human is indeed quite simple: 65% oxygen, 18% carbon, 10% hydrogen, 3% nitrogen, 15% calcium, 1% phosphorus, 0.5% potassium, 0.5% sulfur, 0.15% uranium, 0.15% chlorine, 0.05% magnesium, 0.0004% iron, 0.000004% iodine, and trace amounts of fluorine, silicon, manganese, zinc, copper, aluminum, and arsenic. As long as I have these elements, I could indeed create a human body. However, the most important aspects of a person are their spirit and soul; without those, what I create would merely be a living shell."
"I see..."
Poluchika didn't feel much disappointment; instead, she felt a sense of relief. After all, Human Transmutation is a resurrection technique. If it were truly successful, it could rival the Dark Mage Jelf from legends.
Newton nodded. In truth, he wasn't being entirely honest. Human Transmutation was not that simple; each person's body has its own distinctions, leading to variations in proportions. Furthermore, if one were to retain the soul, it could indeed bring someone back to life. If one were to create a Philosopher's Stone, it could also be used to produce artificial humans—similar yet distinctly different from real humans—but it would certainly qualify as creating life.
However, Newton had no intention of sharing this information with anyone. If others found out about such things, his troubles would far exceed those caused by the weapons he had created.
"Um..."
Seeing that Poluchika had no further questions in mind, Newton decided to ask his own.
"What happened to the three people I saved?"
"Well, they're in another room. The boy and the youngest girl are fine; however, the girl you rescued is still asleep. It seems that even after being saved, her body remains quite weak."
"What exactly is Fairy Tail?"
"Fairy Tail is not just anything; no, Fairy Tail is a good thing..."
Something still felt off.
An old man walked in, his expression quite complex as he looked at Newton and raised his hand.
"Hey there."
"Ah, um, hello..."
Newton noted that the man was shorter than him and thought to himself, Is he a dwarf?
"Smack!"
A hand struck Newton on the head. He stared at the man's outstretched arm, confused about why he had been hit.
"I get the feeling you're thinking something very rude," the old man said, looking displeased.
Hey, hey, there's no such thing as mind reading in this world, right? Newton grumbled inwardly.
"Anyway, thank you."
"Hmph, you should be thanking not just me. A few of us from the Guild came to find you. You still don't realize your importance, do you? The moment you appeared, the kingdom had already set its sights on you. They intended to recruit you for the country. But you've also caught the attention of the Dark Guild, which is why we Regular Guild members came to find you and save you."
The old man's explanation eased Newton's mind a bit, but then confusion set in again. What exactly was the kingdom's attitude?
"Don't worry about it," the old man seemed to sense Newton's concern and said with a smile.
"Your Alchemy is just a form of magic, after all. Magic is the power of the heart. Although you are strong, you're not that important. There are many more powerful Magical Devices and Mages than you. It's your formulas and your intellect that are truly impressive. Just impose a restriction on you, and there won't be any issues."
The old man proudly raised his thumb.
"Restriction?"
Newton was taken aback for a moment.
"How would you restrict me? Lock me up?"
"No, no, we need to find you a guardian!"
The old man looked as if he had 'It's me, it's me' written all over his face, causing Newton to chuckle and shake his head.
"Is that so? Then I think Lady Poluchika would be a good choice."
Newton wasn't joking; he genuinely believed that Pharmacology could be considered a form of Alchemy. Although he didn't know who this old man was, he seemed to be quite formidable, as evidenced by his ability to enlarge things with magic. However, seeing the old man's disrespectful demeanor made Newton want to tease him a little.
"Hey, hey, hey, kid! I'm the President of Fairy Tail! I'm the one who can help you!"
Still the President?
Newton was somewhat surprised but maintained a smile on his face.
"Being under your supervision here at Lady Poluchika's isn't much different, is it?"
"Not at all! Don't you want to learn more knowledge? Our Guild has a Great Library... you..."
"No, no, I can still go read books here."
"You must..."
"You two..."
Lady Poluchika was already angry because their voices were getting louder. However, the two of them were having too much fun to notice her rising fury, which resulted in...
"Get out of here!"
Then Newton and the old man were thrown out.
"Seriously, is this a midlife crisis?"
The old man scoffed.
"Maybe."
Newton shrugged, and then the two exchanged glances.
"Isaac Newton, Alchemist. I look forward to working with you, President."
"Sure thing, Makarov. Let's go; I'll show you your new home."
"Wait, let's stop by and buy some things first. I also want to check on Miraj..."
"Oh, that girl? Are you interested in her?"
"How disrespectful..."
"Haha..."
