Zhou Tong had already smashed the Remote Control Plane onto the ground.
With a loud crash, the Remote Control Plane shattered into pieces.
"Hahaha..." Zhou Tong laughed heartily, "It's all mine!"
"It's all mine!"
"You..."
I pointed at him, too furious to speak.
"You bastard!"
I cursed, grabbing Fei Fei's hand and walking out of the house.
Just as we stepped outside, I heard an angry roar from upstairs.
"I gave it all to you, what more do you want?"
Immediately after, a fish tank came crashing down from above.
"Ah!"
A scream echoed from below.
I looked closely and saw a little girl.
She was carrying a backpack and covering her head.
Blood was oozing through her fingers.
"Quick, Fei Fei, call an ambulance!"
I shouted.
Fei Fei quickly pulled out her phone and dialed for emergency help.
But the little girl's injuries were too severe; before the ambulance arrived, she stopped breathing.
The culprit was Zhou Tong.
Later, I saw on the news that the little girl was only ten years old.
She was on her way home from school, passing by below.
Her home was just upstairs.
She hadn't even made it home before being struck by the fish tank.
She didn't have time to scream either.
Just like that, she left this world.
And Zhou Tong was sent to a juvenile detention center because of this incident.
A few days later, Zhou Yan found me.
"Can you lend me some money?"
Zhou Yan looked at me, exhaustion etched on his face.
"What for?"
I asked.
"The little girl's parents are demanding compensation. How could we possibly have that much money?" Zhou Yan looked at me and said, "Lend me some."
"Where would I get money from?" I let out a bitter laugh.
"You..." Zhou Yan pointed at me, wanting to say something but stopping short.
I knew what she wanted to say. She must have thought I was hiding money. But I wasn't. Over the years, I had spent nearly all my money on her family. I paid for Fei Fei's extracurricular classes, and every time it was thousands of dollars at once. When my own parents fell ill, I didn't give them a single cent. When my family bought a house, I contributed nothing. All my money had gone to her family.
Now, she wanted me to lend her money? Where would I find any?
"Just go," I glanced at Zhou Yan. "I really don't have any money."
"Fu Yu, you're ruthless!" Zhou Yan threw down those words and left.
I ignored her and continued with my own business.
That evening, I met up with Xue An and Ma Ming for drinks. During the gathering, I expressed my gratitude to them. They also filled me in on what had happened.
It turned out they had first spread rumors about the house being demolished. Then they took Zhou Yan to the company that Ma Ming ran. Ma Ming even gifted her a car. Of course, that car was my idea; it was my car. I had lent it to Ma Ming for him to drive. We had agreed that once everything was settled, I would take the car back.
"Brilliant!" I gave a thumbs up. "Absolutely brilliant!"
"What happened next?"
I looked at Xue An.
"What happened next?"
Xue An smiled lightly. "After that, we just waited for you."
"Waited for me?"
I was a bit confused.
"Yes."
Xue An nodded. "As long as you file the lawsuit together, we'll withdraw."
"If we withdraw, she won't have any money."
Xue An took a sip of his drink. "Without money, do you think she'll be in a hurry to get divorced?"
"I see."
I nodded and raised my glass. "Let's have another round."
"Cheers!"
The three of us lifted our glasses and downed them in one go.
By the time it was past eleven, we wrapped up the gathering.
When I got home, I received a message.
It was from Zhou Yan.
"Are you there?"
I replied, "Yes."
Zhou Yan quickly responded.
"What's up?"
I asked again.
"My parents ran away."
Zhou Yan replied.
"Ran away?"
I was puzzled. "What do you mean?"
"They left me and Zhou Tong behind and just ran off."
Zhou Yan explained.
"Why?"
I was even more curious now.
"I don't know."
Zhou Yan replied.
"Then..."
I thought for a moment. "What about Zhou Tong?"
"She's in juvenile detention."
Zhou Yan replied, "Alright."
I responded with a simple, "Okay."
"Is there anything else?" I asked.
"Nothing more," Zhou Yan replied.
I set my phone down and sighed. This outcome was something I had never anticipated. A perfectly good home had been destroyed just like that. But whose hands had caused this destruction? I didn't know. It could have been Zhou Yan, or perhaps Yang Fengping, or even Zhou Huaishan. It might even have been Zhou Tong.
However, one thing was certain: this ending had nothing to do with me. I hadn't done anything wrong. The fault lay with them. They were the ones who ruined this home. They were the ones who made an already struggling family suffer even more. They deserved it.
But then again, as I thought about it, I felt a pang of sympathy. Zhou Yan certainly had her faults, but she had also faced punishment. She had lost her parents and her brother. Alone and isolated, how was she supposed to live?
With that thought in mind, I took out my phone and transferred fifty thousand yuan to her.
