"Dad, please don't be angry."
Zhou Yan held her father-in-law's hand. "I've already taught him a lesson; he won't dare to do it again."
"That's right, Dad." I chimed in, "He's already sixteen; he can be held criminally responsible."
"You're talking nonsense!" Zhou Tong pointed at me. "This house belongs to me! I can do whatever I want!"
"Yours?" I scoffed. "I paid the down payment for this house, I designed the renovations, and I cook the meals you eat. How can you say this house is yours?"
"It is mine!" Zhou Tong shouted. "It was given to me by my sister!"
"Given to you?" I sighed. "Fine, if you have the ability, go earn your own money and buy one."
I opened the drawer and took out a band-aid to tend to the bite mark on my arm that Zhou Tong had just inflicted.
"Give me your bank card," I extended my hand.
"What do you need the card for?" Zhou Yan shot me a glare.
"I want to move out with Fei Fei," I said calmly.
"What?" Zhou Yan was taken aback. "What do you mean?"
"I want to move out," I looked at Zhou Yan. "I'm moving today."
"Are you crazy?" Zhou Yan pointed at me. "You're going to move over such a trivial matter?"
"Small matter?"
I scoffed, "If it weren't for your brother today, if I hadn't discovered this, would you still think it's a small matter?"
"Yanyan, what did he say?"
Grandma looked at Zhou Yan.
"He said he wants to move out."
Zhou Yan replied irritably.
"Move out?"
Grandma glared at me, "You've been a free maid in our house for over ten years, and now you just want to leave?"
"Free maid?"
I laughed coldly, "I've taken care of your son for over ten years, I've taken care of your husband for over ten years, and I've taken care of you for over ten years. You call that being a free maid?"
"Then let's calculate how much all this work would cost if we hired someone from outside."
"You!"
Grandma was left speechless by my retort.
"Mom, forget it."
Zhou Yan pulled at Grandma's arm, "If he wants to leave, let him go. I don't believe we can't live without him."
"Right!"
Zhou Tong chimed in, "Let him get lost! Just seeing him makes me angry."
"Seeing me makes you angry?"
I nodded, "Seeing you makes me even angrier!"
I grabbed Fei Fei's hand, "Today I'm moving out to live with Fei Fei."
"You can't!"
Zhou Yan shook off my hand, saying, "If you want to leave, go ahead. Fei Fei must stay!"
"Must stay?" I scoffed. "Are you going to take care of her yourself?"
"I..."
Zhou Yan was momentarily at a loss for words.
"Think about it. Over the years, how many times have you actually stayed with Fei Fei at night?"
"Whenever Fei Fei wakes up crying, it's always me who brings her out."
"Even when it comes to feeding her in the middle of the night, I've done that for you."
"You can't even prepare formula; what makes you think you can take care of Fei Fei?"
I looked coldly at Zhou Yan.
"I..."
Zhou Yan lowered his head, stammering.
"Fu Yu, if you want to leave, then leave. We don't need you!"
My mother-in-law pointed to the door. "We can manage just fine without you!"
"Fine."
I nodded. "You said it; don't regret it."
"Regret?" My father-in-law sneered. "I’d like to see what you’re capable of!"
That day, with the help of my colleagues, I found a two-bedroom apartment.
The best part was that the landlord's Assistance Center was right downstairs, so I wouldn't have to rush back and forth to pick up Fei Fei every day.
The landlord was very pleased with us, especially because he liked Fei Fei. She was adorable and well-mannered; anyone who saw her would instantly take a liking to her.
