After taking a nap at home, Huang Yunfeng still felt as if he were dreaming when he woke up. It wasn't until he communicated with the Huang Yunfeng ship, which was floating above the city and had activated its shielding field, that he began to feel a sense of reality.
Back at home, Huang Yunfeng decided to refer to all the flying vehicles he owned collectively as the Huang Yunfeng ship. With nothing much to do all day, he found himself even more aimless now.
Surviving by absorbing cosmic energy rendered his previous petty thievery meaningless. Although he had a few friends who were more like acquaintances, there was no need for any emotional ties among them.
Since returning to Earth, he had cut off all contact with anyone over the past few days.
Accustomed to sleeping naked, Huang Yunfeng got up and glanced at the electronic clock he hadn't checked in a long time, surprised to find it still working. It was just past ten in the morning. His abilities had improved significantly lately; his fire dragon tattoo could now be concealed beneath his skin. Not being used to wearing bright red clothing, Huang Yunfeng opted for an old pair of cowboy pants and a gray jacket. Feeling a bit stifled, he decided to go out for a walk today.
Huang Yunfeng's home was in an area where the neighbors kept to themselves; no one knew anyone else. The ordinary apartment building was neither far from nor close to the bustling downtown area. He rummaged through his pockets but found nothing at all; he didn't mind.
After wandering aimlessly through several streets, he arrived at a place he often frequented. Suddenly feeling a sense of superiority, Huang Yunfeng looked at the well-off people who once seemed high above him and realized they were nothing in his eyes now. Their lazy gazes filled him with pride; although he knew he had once been an ordinary human, he couldn't help but revel in this strange feeling.
He patted his pockets but found nothing again. Having not gone out for several days, he had cut off his source of income. Watching the bustling crowd on the street, Huang Yunfeng suddenly thought about how his dishonorable means of making a living would only allow him to scrape by; if he truly wanted to amass wealth, he would have to earn it legitimately.
He casually bought a newspaper and flipped to the job listings. As he scanned through them, he noticed that most decent jobs required educational qualifications and computer skills. Just as Huang Yunfeng felt a sudden urge to become more proactive in life, he was struck down by disappointment and lost interest again.
"Am I supposed to rely on my current skills? Continue being a thief in that promising black profession?" Thoughts of robbing all the wealthy people in the city flashed through his mind but were quickly dismissed.
"How boring!"
Just as Huang Yunfeng was pondering what to do next, he suddenly spotted a small advertisement on a telephone pole: "Hiring Attractive Women... Monthly Salary Over Ten Thousand... Must Be Outgoing and Sociable..."
The familiar phrase above made Huang Yunfeng scratch his messy hair and smile awkwardly. This was something he had put up with a few friends for a nightclub. The phone number left on it was even his own mobile number. However, very few people fell for this kind of advertisement; aside from a few impatient young men asking to rent beautiful women, he hadn’t received any calls from women.
Touching his cheek, Huang Yunfeng thought, "It wouldn't be a bad idea to stroll around the nightclub for no particular reason."
Living in the city, Huang Yunfeng had some connections with certain forces. The place he was heading to was the most famous den of vice in the city. Since it operated on the fringes of legality, such places couldn’t be run without backing. Huang Yunfeng was considered one of the special employees there; he could earn some tips now and then, but running errands and handling tasks was unavoidable—after all, there’s no such thing as a free lunch.
After wandering around the streets for over half an hour, Huang Yunfeng finally arrived at the Fajulou Nightclub. Seeing that his attire was not suitable for the main entrance, he circled around to the back entrance where he usually came in. As soon as he stepped inside, someone elbowed him.
“Xiao Huang! What about that thing you promised me? Why haven’t you come by in days? Are you trying to avoid me?”
Huang Yunfeng felt a familiar scent pressing against his back, a hot body with a slick touch pressed closely against him.
He reached back to pry off the hands that were holding him and looked at the unfamiliar face from his memory. With a gentle push, the provocatively dressed woman stumbled aside. Just then, a young waitress came by to take out the trash, and the fallen woman clung onto her while calling out for Xiao Huang again. Hearing those already familiar lines made Huang Yunfeng break into a sweat, sparing him the trouble of recalling when he had met this woman.
This must be a girl who had been intoxicated by some customer and had lost her way back to her room, now dazed and confused at the back door. Huang Yunfeng patted himself down instinctively to brush off the lingering pungent smell and smiled broadly at the young waitress as he walked past the two entangled women.
Familiar with navigating the first floor, Huang Yunfeng didn’t head towards the dance floor or bar area. He found that atmosphere quite distasteful and decided to go up to the second floor.
The second floor consisted entirely of private rooms, many of which offered temporary arrangements for intimate encounters. Of course, drinking, singing, banquets, and entertainment were all available as well. When he reached Room 229, he pushed open the door casually; this was where he often gathered with his friends. Sure enough, as soon as he opened the door, he saw seven or eight young men in their twenties shouting and drinking. Upon seeing Huang Yunfeng enter, two of them called out, “Xiao Huang! Long time no see! Come have a drink!”
Looking at these guys who were already intoxicated and dazed from alcohol, Huang Yunfeng didn’t respond. He casually grabbed a pack of cigarettes from the table and was about to light one when there came a series of knocks on the main door.
“Someone's causing trouble! You guys get ready and come out to handle it.”
Huang Yunfeng recognized the voice of the Nightclub Front Desk Manager and thought to himself, “What bad luck!” Just arrived and already encountering this kind of situation.
A crowd of people rushed downstairs, the commotion caused by a few drunken men who had gotten into a fight with another group of patrons over a momentary quarrel. Huang Yunfeng watched coldly from the side. Not long ago, he would have only known to fight when his head was hot, but now he noticed something quite peculiar.
Typically, disturbances arise from drunkenness or from those who are usually bullies. The drunken men were regulars; Huang Yunfeng knew they were not clean-handed and likely had criminal records. It was not surprising that they would cause trouble. However, the other group looked very different. There were both men and women among them, all remarkably sober. Their argument seemed rather calm, and once the fighting started, each of them displayed agile skills, clearly trained individuals.
"Damn! They're police! That other group must be police officers. They’ve come in plain clothes to make arrests."
Although he hoped for an adventure, Huang Yunfeng did not want to get involved with law enforcement. Besides, it had nothing to do with him; why play the hero now? As others were distracted, Huang Yunfeng quietly stepped back, intending to slip into a corner. Suddenly—bang! Bang! A few gunshots rang out, silencing the entire scene.
Seeing a large number of armed police rush in, Huang Yunfeng inwardly groaned. The drunken men had clearly sobered up from fear. One even pulled out a firearm in resistance and was shot dead on the spot by several officers. The rest surrendered without hesitation.
Seeing this situation, Huang Yunfeng had no intention of wading into murky waters. He turned and slipped into a back corridor. Just as he was about to sprint away, he collided with a young police officer bursting through a back door. Quick on his feet, Huang Yunfeng covered the officer's mouth with one hand and applied just enough pressure to knock her unconscious. In the chaos, he realized he had taken down a female officer. Surprised but unfazed, Huang Yunfeng seized the opportunity; as no one was watching, his body transformed into specks of light blue starlight and vanished against the wall behind him. In an instant, when he reformed his Starlight Body, he found himself on the street outside.
"Stop! Don’t run!"
Huang Yunfeng thought he had encountered an extraordinary master when he heard that shout—someone who could even chase him while he was using Starlight Body. While reflecting on this, a man dashed past him, followed by something dark being thrown into his arms. Amidst the sound of hurried footsteps, more than ten people ran past him in quick succession, followed by even more armed police in pursuit.
"Damn! So it turns out it's a bunch of big shots being chased by the police."
Just as Huang Yunfeng emerged from the wall, he found himself in a shadowy corner where neither group of officers had noticed his presence. Naturally, at this moment, he wouldn’t play the role of a good Samaritan returning lost items. He quickly shrank back and waited until no one was around before stepping out with the black suitcase that had fallen from above and quietly leaving.
