Fang Lin Kong and Wen Zhongda left Kunlun Wonderland together. These days, Fang Lin Kong had been flying non-stop, and he was feeling quite exhausted. Therefore, before he had even left the Kunlun Mountains, he said to Wen Zhongda, "Flying on a sword all day is really tiring. Why don't we switch to a Flying Artifact and take it easy?"
Wen Zhongda had just agreed when Fang Lin Kong produced an enormous artifact. This artifact resembled a carriage, pulled by eight celestial steeds at the front, with a spacious jade chariot at the back, truly magnificent.
The eight celestial steeds exhaled mist and were pure white all over, their powerful legs treading the void and creating clouds beneath them. Wen Zhongda exclaimed in surprise, "Aren't these the legendary Azure Cloud Beasts? How do you have so many? In all our years on the Kunlun Celestial Path, we've only found three."
Fang Lin Kong laughed heartily and said, "I have plenty of these exotic beasts. If you like them, I can give you two."
Wen Zhongda's eyes sparkled as he replied, "Although Riding Beasts aren't popular anymore, most disciples of the Daoist Sect travel by sword, with a few using Flying Artifacts. However, having an Azure Cloud Beast is a symbol of status. There are no wild exotic beasts left on Earth now; all the famous ones are raised by major sects. The few in Kunlun have long become the elders' exclusive possessions; we juniors have no chance at all. Using them like this seems like a waste and might come off as showing off. Why not just ride them directly instead of using them as a carriage?"
Fang Lin Kong shook his head and said, "Riding is too tiring; sitting in the carriage is much more comfortable."
Wen Zhongda went along with Fang Lin Kong's wishes. They both climbed into the carriage, and with a command from Fang Lin Kong, the eight Azure Cloud Beasts began to gallop across the clouds. To avoid drawing too much attention, Fang Lin Kong raised his hand and summoned a cloud to cover the carriage, shielding it from the fierce winds above.
Wen Zhongda had always relied on his own abilities to fly whenever he traveled to Kunlun; he had never enjoyed such luxury as Fang Lin Kong did. However, this was also Fang Lin Kong's first time using this artifact, and he was still somewhat inexperienced at controlling it. After a while, he realized he had taken a wrong turn in the cloud path and had to adjust their direction.
Though the eight-beast carriage was fast, it couldn't compare to modern supersonic passenger planes. Thus, for them to return to their city, they would still need to fly for at least seven or eight hours. Finding the journey dull, they began chatting about various topics. Wen Zhongda introduced some aspects of the Kunlun Celestial Path to Fang Lin Kong. As they passed over the Mongolian Grassland, Fang Lin Kong felt drowsy lying in the carriage and was starting to doze off when suddenly Wen Zhongda shouted, "Fang Lin Kong! Look over there! It seems like there's a UFO!"
Startled awake by Wen Zhongda's exclamation, Fang Lin Kong quickly sat up and indeed saw a dazzling flying object that emitted endless light but released no spiritual energy as it traversed the sky. Being curious by nature, he immediately urged the eight-beast carriage to follow it. Although the Azure Cloud Beasts were extraordinary creatures, they were clearly not as fast as that UFO-like object. Growing impatient, Fang Lin Kong unleashed his sword light to chase after it. Wen Zhongda lagged behind slightly but shook his head and activated his own sword light to follow.
Fang Lin Kong took off first and flew quickly, pulling nearly a hundred kilometers ahead of Wen Zhongda. When Wen Zhongda finally caught up with his sword light, Fang Lin Kong noticed that the disc-shaped flying object suddenly ascended into the sky. His sword light followed suit but soon reached its limit and he had no choice but to give up. Ultimately, flying on a sword could not escape Earth's gravitational pull; he still hadn't reached escape velocity, so rising higher became meaningless.
Wen Zhongda caught up and noticed that Fang Lin Kong was not pursuing any further; he understood the reason. Watching the flying craft disappear, Wen Zhongda smiled and said, "I've been subscribed to UFO Exploration since elementary school, and I never thought I would actually see a UFO today. It's a pity I don't have a camera to capture the moment."
Fang Lin Kong slowly shook his head and replied, "No way, that thing is strange; it seems there's an unusual force field around it that would prevent any filming."
Wen Zhongda felt even more regretful. Both of them were open-minded individuals, and a UFO wasn't something that held great allure for them. Since they couldn't catch up, they resumed their journey home. The Eight Horse Chariot soared through the sky, heading straight toward the Northeast.
Finally back home, Fang Lin Kong felt an indescribable joy. The creature that had taken his place was a graduate of Yale University with a Ph.D. During the college entrance examination, this person had achieved the top score in the province, which meant Fang Lin Kong could confidently report to China's best university.
After a long time without seeing Ding Qingya, Fang Lin Kong called her upon his return. When Ding Qingya answered the phone, she expressed her grievances. After Fang Lin Kong showered her with compliments, he finally gained her forgiveness. He promised endless benefits and agreed to rush over to treat her to dinner.
Fang Lin Kong's parents were busy with work, and during this critical period of college entrance examinations, they only noticed their "son" studying diligently without realizing anything was amiss. This is also the sorrow of many Chinese parents; often when something happens to their child, they are usually the last to know. With immense social pressure and job insecurity looming over them, it's no wonder they lack time for communication.
Excitedly running out of the house, Fang Lin Kong performed a quick earth escape technique and arrived outside Ding Qingya's home. When he called her, Ding Qingya peeked out from the window. Upon seeing him, she smiled and quickly withdrew her head but soon ran downstairs.
It was already summer, and Fang Lin Kong saw Ding Qingya wearing a cute tank top and loose shorts, her arms and thighs exposed. Her delicate skin glistened with tiny beads of sweat under the sunlight as he internally shouted, "Youth! This is what youth looks like..." Although it hadn't been long since they last met, Ding Qingya had grown slightly taller; her legs seemed longer. While she hadn't reached the heights of Murphy or Yan Yini at over one hundred eighty centimeters or developed a mature figure that exuded temptation, she radiated youthful exuberance and brightness.
Noticing Fang Lin Kong's gaze, Ding Qingya felt somewhat pleased with herself. She playfully pecked him on the head and said, "Where have you been? Why did it take you so long to come back? I've asked that guy Zhou Qingzhe multiple times, but he just gave vague answers without being clear."
Fang Lin Kong exclaimed dramatically, "You dared to bother Zhou Qingzhe! He's one of the five executive Chairmen of the International Demon Alliance! He wields immense power with hundreds of thousands of formidable demons under his command—one sneeze from him could trigger a tsunami in the North Pacific!"
Ding Qingya laughed uncontrollably and casually asked, "Why the North Pacific?"
Fang Lin Kong struck a heroic pose, exuding an air of authority as he boastfully replied, "That's because I'm in the South Pacific!"
Fang Lin Kong hadn't boasted to anyone in a long time, but in front of Ding Qingya, he didn't need to put on an air of mystery. He spoke with a lightness that matched his age. The two of them joked and laughed, unknowingly walking quite a distance. It was only when Ding Qingya snapped back to reality that she said, "I'm packing my things to report to school, and I'm so tired! I've been hungry all day! Where exactly are you taking me to eat?"
Fang Lin Kong looked around, feeling a bit ashamed. Although this city was where he grew up, the ongoing demolition had changed it so much that he felt somewhat lost after just a few days away. With no other option, he called for a taxi and said, "Since my dear Qingya is hungry, I'll take you to Stove God. I've heard their soup is great, and the iron plate bullfrog is authentic."
Ding Qingya had no objections. When they arrived at the restaurant named Stove God, she suddenly remembered something and said seriously, "Fang Lin Kong! I know you don't need a diploma anymore, and you shouldn't worry about finding a job in society later on. But I at least hope you can finish college and not run around all day making me worry!"
Fang Lin Kong thought for a moment and realized he didn't have much to do anyway, so he nodded in agreement. "I'll try to waste less time in the future and spend more time with my dear Qingya. However, I really don't have anything urgent right now. But life is unpredictable; there are some things that concern my very existence. If I don't take action, I might be left with no choice but to wait for my doom. Please forgive me then!"
Ding Qingya was pleased with Fang Lin Kong's promise; her expression brightened as she smiled and offered him some watermelon slices. Their mood was good enough that even the fact that it took over half an hour for the first dish to arrive didn't bother them.
Ding Qingya was indeed quite hungry. When the first dish of steamed ribs with glutinous rice came out, she served herself two bowls and began eating.
Fang Lin Kong, with his deep cultivation, naturally had less need for food. He casually chatted with Ding Qingya about school and asked about Wen Yi and the others' current situations. It was then that Fang Lin Kong learned that Wen Yi had already been accepted into a university in Beijing and was studying in the same city as him. Chen Mingbin had disappeared after the college entrance examination; it was rumored he went off to train somewhere. Ma Jingjie didn't want to leave home and enrolled in a local school; now he was battling daily in Monster Legend, an online game developed by International Demon Alliance, alongside Wen Yi, enjoying the prime of their youth.
They continued their meal until the streetlights began to glow, transforming the traffic and crowds into something different from the daytime bustle. Ding Qingya still needed to go back and organize her belongings, so Fang Lin Kong reluctantly saw her off. After dropping Ding Qingya home, it was already around eight or nine o'clock at night. Fang Lin Kong hadn't yet figured out how to spend his time next until he saw Ding Qingya appear at the window. He waved goodbye, turned around, and suddenly a shadow emerged from the ground.
"Boss! You're back!"
