"You surprise me," Agu An sighed.
"I made a similar choice in the past, about five years ago. But I didn't expect you to be even more thorough, more relentless, and more willing to face death."
Garen shook his head. "Someone has to step forward."
Agu An looked at Garen, who was surrounded by a shimmering light, and after a moment of silence said, "No one will know about this, nor will anyone remember it."
Garen smiled dismissively and replied, "Everything will eventually be forgotten."
Agu An's gaze sharpened as he continued, "Even if it means being lost forever?"
In truth, Garen was well aware that the choice he had made was extremely dangerous; it could easily lead to his demise. The real issue now was whether he could achieve success, and that success had long since ceased to be tied to life or death.
Agu An stared at Garen. In that moment when the blade fell, this warrior had severed all the powers within him that should not exist, leaving only a force that even he could not fully comprehend. Now, Garen had become a near fourth-tier powerhouse, and due to his own completeness, he had truly reached the same level as Agu An.
Garen bent down and plucked a blade of grass, casually placing it in his mouth. "Then let it be lost forever."
Agu An was taken aback for a moment before finally coming to terms with it. Yes, what this warrior had severed was not just his own Chaos; it also included his confusion, despair, helplessness, and regrets... At this moment, he was merely a warrior steadfast in his convictions.
"By the way, I have one more question..." Garen suddenly spoke up, revealing a look of confusion.
Agu An shook his head and said, "You have already made your choice; the path has always been beneath your feet."
Garen pondered for a moment before nodding, "I understand."
"Not going to stay a little longer?" Agu An asked as Garen took a step forward. "At this point, it doesn't matter whether you try to buy time or not. Perhaps you should take a closer look at this world."
Garen did not stop his pace and waved his hand behind him, "No more delays."
"Good luck to you."
"I'll see you soon."
...
Agu An simply vanished. He was merely a shadow, his true self imprisoned deep within the realm of Eternity. Now that his mission was complete, there was no reason for him to linger... In truth, his task had not been fully accomplished, as Garen had rejected his advice.
However, Garen had made his own choice.
He paused at the edge of the cliff for a moment before disappearing, only to reappear at the bottom of the abyss.
The wailing wind blew back and forth; the abyss was shrouded in darkness. Yet as Garen approached, the cold winds abruptly ceased, and an air of reverence filled the atmosphere.
Indeed, having reached this level, even the laws of the world must show proper respect.
Garen gazed at the hundreds of stone statues. Even though he had attained peak power, he could not free his petrified companions. Their plight stemmed from the uncontrolled supply of dimensional energy. Unless he could recreate a Watchtower, he would have no choice but to traverse billions of light-years back to the Valoran Continent.
Unfortunately, neither option seemed feasible now. As he stepped into this realm, Garen could vaguely sense changes in this world; yes, Eternity had already begun to act, and the time left for him was truly limited.
As Garen turned to leave, the rocks on both sides of the mountain walls began to float down, intertwining and coalescing into a solid barrier that firmly protected the hundreds of stone statues below.
Although he could not restore them, Garen could at least ensure that their statues remained unharmed.
Unless Agu Anan the Great personally arrived, there was no one on this continent who could break through this barrier.
Bright sunlight poured down as Garen pulled something from his pocket.
The answer Agu An had given him earlier was actually pointing out that the path was right beside him. Garen suddenly remembered and placed it in the palm of his hand.
Yes.
Lucifer's diary.
Back on The Road of Descent, both Han Yun and Berfant had shown their respective importance towards this diary, but Garen had never understood its significance until now. It seemed clear to him now...
It was his direction.
As the diary opened, an ancient-style loft appeared above him with a hum, followed by layers of white light stairs connecting down to Garen.
"Stairs that shouldn't exist."
Without further thought, Garen stepped onto the luminous stairs and approached the loft, knocking on the brass ring on the wooden door.
On the outside, this loft looked exactly like the one inside Immortal City, except that the staircase leading to it had been missing at that time. He had also seen this wooden door before... it was the same one that Berfant had summoned through the light portal on The Road of Descent.
"Creek!"
The wooden door swung open, a dazzling white light spilling through the gap, obscuring the view inside. Soon, the door was opened halfway, and a figure stepped out.
"Hi, my friend, long time no see." Berfant held a cup of hot coffee in his hands, as if he had just woken up from a nap, showing no surprise at Garen's arrival.
This was not hard to understand; in a sense, Berfant's door was attached to the diary in some way, so it could only be summoned again by Garen.
Berfant observed him closely and exclaimed, "Have you met the stars?"
"Yes, he wants me to inherit the will of the Emperor." Garen had no intention of hiding anything.
"Oh... then it seems he must have been rejected!" Berfant chuckled with schadenfreude and then sighed, "I once met him. Well, by that time he had already faded from this world. However, he seemed quite interested in my views on descent."
Just as humanity has the legacy of Agu Anan the Great, the vampire clan also possesses such a legacy. Berfant is one who inherited the Abyssal Will; in a sense, it would not be an exaggeration to regard him as the progenitor of the blood clan. This shows that both humans and vampires had contact with Eternity and sought ways to resolve their issues, but unfortunately, they failed.
The will of Agu Anan still persists.
However, it was clear that the Abyssal Will had been interrupted due to Berfant's overly strict requirements for successors. As a result, until the Immortal City perished, no one could find the Nonexistent Staircase.
Interestingly enough, both supreme wills of the two continents had hoped that Garen would inherit them.
Garen rubbed his temples. "I think we should go inside and talk."
"Oh, sorry! That was my oversight!" Berfant slapped his forehead and quickly stepped aside. "You're the first guest here; I must personally brew you a cup of coffee!"
With a sharp sound, Garen's figure vanished into the white light.
The moment he saw the scene inside the door, even Garen couldn't help but be stunned.
At that moment, Berfant did not follow immediately; he stood at the entrance, smiling as he waved goodbye to the distance.
In the next instant, the loft disappeared.
From within a dense thicket in the distance, a disheveled figure emerged. He was covered in mud and littered with dead leaves, clearly having endured days of relentless travel.
He removed his black cloak, revealing an extremely ugly face.
The journey from Blood Clan Island to this abyss was no small feat, even for practitioners; let alone those ordinary people without any strength...
The long journey had brought him countless hardships.
Fortunately, at the moment the loft vanished, he finally caught sight of that figure stepping into the light.
Tears began to flow down his cheeks.
