When all emotions become shackles, it feels as if merely existing is the greatest suffering.
Extreme anger, extreme sadness, extreme loss, extreme numbness... Garen could not see this layer of Black Flame, yet he could clearly feel the layers of shackles wrapping around him, bursting forth from every pore, making even breathing an incredibly difficult task!
Tastandin let out a soft gasp as he saw Garen trembling and slowly approaching. This surprised Tastandin; he understood all too well what Garen was enduring at this moment. In such a state, no life could withstand it.
Back then, in that place, Lucifer had only lasted a few seconds.
With each step Garen took, it was an immense torment. He tightened his grip on the spear and suddenly lunged at Tastandin!
"Clang!" A crisp sound echoed as the spear collided with Freezing Command.
"What an enviable strength," Tastandin remarked, feeling the force behind the spear. At that moment, where the spear and sword met, a series of cracking sounds erupted as a layer of silvery ice spread out. With a sharp snap, the spear was broken.
The two pieces of the spear clattered to the ground, instantly creating a layer of ice on the surface!
"Crack, crack!" In an instant, centered around the broken spear, the ice rapidly spread outward—across the ground, the stone walls, the palace, and the eaves—turning everything into a silvery ice sculpture!
The ice crept up Garen's boots, then to his knees, and finally to his abdomen...
The bone-chilling cold surged in, as if every blood vessel was frozen solid. For Garen, who was still enduring the pain of Sin, this was undoubtedly adding insult to injury. With a clang, he braced himself against Stormblade to steady his form.
...
The layout of the Temple was vast, but such intense commotion could not go unnoticed.
Four White-Clad Archbishops rushed over swiftly, followed by large numbers of guards. Causing trouble during Frostbringer's return was not good news; they had to eliminate any issues!
However, when they arrived, they were all stunned.
In the open space of this small palace lay numerous dead guards sprawled out in gruesome states. Even more astonishingly, this place had turned into an ice palace!
At the steps of the Palace Entrance, a sudden transformation revealed an icy world within the hall, where only the glimmering ice sculptures reflected brilliant light!
"Messenger!" the Archbishop suddenly spoke.
Tastandin walked straight out, pausing briefly as he passed by. "Clean this place up and seal it off."
"Yes!" The Archbishop nodded quickly, not having time to think further.
It was only after Tastandin had walked far away that everyone's gaze returned to the frozen palace.
There stood a tall warrior in the form of an ice sculpture, leaning on his sword. He looked lifelike, with even the fluttering fabric of his clothing rendered in exquisite detail. His eyes were closed, concealing his expression at that moment.
Before him lay two broken spears, leaning at an angle.
The residents of Immortal City worshipped the Messenger and longed for the Temple.
Whenever the Messenger returned from his holiday, the Temple would open its doors for the residents to admire and pay homage, including the frozen palace.
"This palace was originally called the Sun Palace, symbolizing a will as strong as the sun!" an elder from the Temple explained while pointing. "Five years ago, the Messenger defeated the remnants of demons here; that ice sculpture is the best proof!"
Nearby, a group of young children gazed in awe at the dreamlike frosty world before them.
"Don't go in!" The elder quickly grabbed a boy who was about to step forward and said earnestly, "Be careful not to be tainted by the power of demons!"
The boy shivered and obediently returned to the group.
The story of the Sun Palace was not unfamiliar to the children; it had been well-known throughout the city for five years. It was said that on that day, demon minions attempted to steal demonic weapons but were stopped by righteous soldiers from the Temple. In the end, Frostbringer intervened and fought a decisive battle against the enemy at the Sun Palace, and this scene before them signified the conclusion of that fight.
The demon's minion had transformed into an ice sculpture of Eternity.
Frostbringer once again defended the safety of Immortal City!
A girl raised her hand and said, "I know, I know! Messenger killed the demon in West Desert!"
The elder gently patted the girl's head and replied, "Yes, that demon was much stronger than the ones here. According to records, Messenger nearly froze the entire western part of the city before barely defeating it!"
As he spoke, the elder sighed quietly. "But it's a pity; the land that was frozen is no longer what it used to be. Later on, it became that vast desert."
Seeing the elder's wistful expression, the children understood and did not make a fuss.
After a moment, the elder clapped his hands. "Alright, let's move on to the next location. There are many stories about Eternal Night Palace, and I will tell you all about them slowly!"
...
Five years may not seem long or short, but it was enough time to tarnish an existence.
Once the group of children had walked far away, the guards on either side finally let out a sigh of relief. Although the elder held a low position in the Temple, he was certainly not someone they could provoke, so they had dared not breathe a word during his storytelling.
"Ophico hasn't changed one bit! Luckily he doesn't know about that matter; otherwise, he would definitely blame us for negligence," one guard spat angrily.
"Yeah, his temper might even reach Archbishop," another guard shook his head and said. "By the way, our leader went to consult with Archbishop, why hasn't he returned yet?"
"It's hard to say; this matter is quite serious... Sigh, with an unidentified person appearing at the Frozen Palace, which is supposed to suppress demons, and likely being someone from within the Temple, even Archbishop might have a headache over this!"
"Do you think we're overreacting? I still can't believe someone would betray Messenger..."
"Bah! That person always stands right next to the demon's ice sculpture! Look at those footprints; they haven't disappeared yet! Even if they were just observing the demon, they wouldn't come by so frequently!"
"True, it's very strange."
As the two guards were speaking, a towering figure strode forward.
"Boss!"
Behind the Bulky Man, more than a dozen well-equipped guards followed. From their armor, it was clear they were high-ranking guards from within the palace, and the presence of so many indicated that something significant was happening above.
"Fair, take your men and set up an ambush." The Bulky Man placed a hand on the sword at his waist, his gaze sweeping over the faces of all the guards.
The two guards exchanged glances, both realizing something at the same time.
At that moment, the Bulky Man directed his gaze at them. "I'll ask you again: what has been happening recently?"
"Report, Boss! Every Monday night, Tiahan and I feel an overwhelming drowsiness. When we wake up, there are footprints left behind. And this is definitely not a coincidence! We've tried various methods to stay awake, but each time we inexplicably fall asleep!"
Drowsiness and footprints.
The Bulky Man caught onto the keywords. Despite these two being his trusted confidants who would never deceive him, this matter was serious, and he needed to be extremely cautious.
Indeed...
Within the stern Temple, someone dared to plot against the demons!
