"Hey, kid, what are you thinking about?"
I reached out and waved my hand in front of his eyes.
Zhao Xiangchun snapped back to reality, looking at me with a serious expression.
"Dong Guofang, can you take better care of yourself?"
"Huh?"
I was taken aback, staring at him.
"Why are you suddenly saying this?"
"It's nothing, I just feel like you're having a tough time."
Zhao Xiangchun sighed, his tone filled with concern.
"What are you thinking about?"
I shook my head and smiled.
"I'm doing fine, really."
"Is that so?"
Zhao Xiangchun looked at me, his gaze complicated.
"Yes."
I nodded firmly.
"Alright then."
Zhao Xiangchun shrugged, a smile returning to his face.
"I'll be on my way then; see you tomorrow."
"Goodbye."
I watched his figure as he walked away, waving my hand with a smile.
"What a silly boy."
I chuckled and shook my head before turning to head home.
As soon as I stepped through the door, something suddenly crossed my mind, stirring my heart.
I hurriedly opened the drawer and pulled out a stack of love letters.
One letter after another was opened and carefully examined. Finally, I discovered something amiss in one of the love letters. The candy on it was gone. I paused for a moment, then quickly realized what that meant.
I hurriedly turned on the old computer, watching it start up slowly. After what felt like an eternity, the screen finally lit up. I rushed to log into the browser and accessed the history search page. As I glanced at the information in the search box, my heart began to race.
With trembling hands, I clicked on that entry. Just one glance was enough to send me crashing to the floor, shock and disbelief etched across my face. “Zhao Xiangchun.”
My voice shook as I dialed his number. “What’s wrong?” Zhao Xiangchun asked, sounding puzzled.
“Can you lend me some money?” I gritted my teeth and forced the words out.
“How much?”
“Five hundred thousand.”
There was a sudden silence on the other end of the line.
“I know that’s a lot, but I really need it urgently. I’m begging you, Zhao Xiangchun.” My voice cracked with emotion.
“What happened?” Zhao Xiangchun sounded alarmed.
"Is something wrong?"
"Can you lend it to me first? I promise to pay you back in installments."
I pleaded.
"No, you don't have to do that."
Zhao Xiangchun hurriedly replied.
"Just tell me what happened."
"I really need it; it's urgent."
I continued to plead.
"Alright."
Zhao Xiangchun paused for a moment before agreeing.
"Thank you, Zhao Xiangchun."
I was deeply moved.
"It's nothing; let's not mention that between us."
Zhao Xiangchun smiled and hung up the phone.
I took a deep breath and started rummaging through the room.
Finally, in the dim light of the hanging lamp, I found a letter.
"Guo Fang, as if seeing you face to face."
"I don't know if you'll ever see this letter, but I still want to write it down to give you an explanation."
"First, don't worry; I'm doing well. I'll be waiting for you in the capital."
"Second, I know you really like the Starlight Lamp, so I specially ordered one as our wedding gift. I hope you'll like it."
"Third, I love you very much, and I will always love you. I want to watch the sun rise and set with you in the future."
To see the snow, to see the sea, to eat a lot of delicious food.
We will definitely be happy.
Forever loving you, by Guo Huai.
I trembled as I opened the envelope.
Guo Fang, as if seeing you through the letter.
Don't cry, I'm fine; I've just gone to another place, waiting for you.
That Starlight Lamp was specially made for you.
I wanted to watch the starry sky with you, but I can no longer wait.
Could you please install it for me?
Just think of it as me having seen the starry sky we both longed for in advance.
Do you remember that year when we buried the Starlight together?
You take care of my share and live well.
Meeting you has already exhausted all my luck in this lifetime.
I am very content; I am also very happy.
Guo Fang, don't cry; I want to see you smile.
Don't cry, Guo Fang.
The letter was stained with tears.
My tears had soaked through the paper.
I opened my mouth but couldn't say a word.
Tears kept flowing down uncontrollably.
Guo Fang, don't cry.
I want to hold back my tears too.
But I miss you so much.
