Cui Ming gently patted Mi Xiaonan's head and said, "Little one, you're still too naive. It's not as simple as you think."
"Oh, that's good. Anyway, I don't understand feelings when it comes to Beiyue," Mi Xiaonan asked, "Have you ever thought about marrying two?"
Cui Ming laughed heartily and replied, "Do you think that's possible?"
"Cui Ming, of course there would be conflicts in marrying two; no man likes to share his partner with others. But if you can win them over, it's different. The conflicts would be theirs; you just get to enjoy the blessings of having both."
"I wonder what dramas are airing these days?" Cui Ming asked, finding it hard to believe such themes could make it to television.
"Palace intrigue," Mi Xiaonan said. "A group of women fighting for a man's affection, secretly battling each other to the death."
"You should watch more positive dramas. Let me tell you, Beiyue will make a wonderful wife," Cui Ming said. "But don't say that out loud. There's a story you should remember: I've long since changed my heart and have a woman outside. Everyone knows it, but I feel Beiyue's affection and kindness towards me, so I dare not part ways with her. That's the gist of the story. When the time comes for such a tale to be told, you can share it, but don't mention Miss Fortune; don't bring trouble upon her."
"Ah? When is the right time?"
Cui Ming's tone turned somber as he replied, "When the right time comes, it will be obvious. Mi Xiaonan, there are five of us: my senior brother and Wei Wei; my senior brother has no feelings left for Sister Wei Wei. What about Ding Ze and Ye Shi? I don't know, but Ye Shi is getting married soon. And what about your Mi Xiaobo? Cultivators are like this; there's always a limit to breakthroughs. Even if you're strong enough to scare off crows, you'll still get beaten up by us. We need to make more friends to avoid being bullied and also enjoy life. You're still young... You could go learn from Jayce for a few months; it wouldn't hurt."
Mi Xiaonan sighed, "Mi Xiaobo really admires Mi Big Head."
"Damn."
"Yeah, damn indeed."
"Forget it, one must look forward."
"There's no choice but to look forward." The girl was about to leave with someone; what else could she do? Mi Xiaonan felt that the Five-Man Team was just a group of emotional failures, each with their own story. It was hard to see Cui Ming and Beiyue showing signs of recovery, only for Miss Fortune to emerge. Deep down, Mi Xiaonan truly believed that Beiyue wasn't suited to be a good wife, but he knew his experience came from soap opera theories.
...
Cui Ming left with a large backpack. As a man who always wanted to treat himself better, he packed a grill, seasonings, rice, and other supplies. As for the main food, most could be obtained through hunting and fishing.
Cui Ming took a truck from the Double Dawn Highway transport and arrived at the midpoint in the evening. He handed the driver a thousand yuan for fare and got off with his backpack. It was getting late, so Cui Ming quickened his pace, walking fifteen kilometers to the meeting spot with Stone Man Mott. This place had water and fish, not too far from the forest where many animals roamed; the most comfortable part was having a hot spring nearby.
He set up his tent, gathered dry firewood, started a fire, and had a self-heating meal before resting. Thus ended his day of travel.
This location was quite far from the Double Dawn Highway, in a desolate area. With the highway open, there was no need for the Mule Team to smuggle goods, so he didn't have to worry about being disturbed. Equipped with skills and tools, living in the wild was quite pleasant. Cui Ming wasn't there for seclusion; he was waiting for Warden's arrival. If Warden didn't show up in ten days, then further discussions would be necessary.
At night, soaking in the hot spring while lying back to gaze at the stars with barbecue nearby was a very enjoyable life. Cui Ming loved starry skies without the moon; such opportunities were rare each month. While waiting for Warden, he sincerely hoped Warden wouldn't disturb him at that moment.
Cui Ming soaked in the hot spring, relaxing occasionally while using Fate Card to check his surroundings...
"You finally came," Cui Ming said casually as he slowly emerged from the hot spring and grabbed a towel to dry off. Thirty meters away on a rock stood a person, motionless like a statue. After placing the towel aside and putting on his underwear, Cui Ming turned around to put on his pants: "Sit down; there's a fire pit over here with barbecue and natural mineral water."
The fire pit was ten meters away from the hot spring. Cui Ming had surrounded it with stones; next to it was his tent. A wild rabbit was roasting over the fire. Beside it lay a flat stone that Cui Ming had moved here to serve as a table, along with two flat stones as stools.
Cui Ming walked toward the campsite, put on his shirt hanging on a branch, draped on his denim jacket, took down the roasted rabbit, and sat on one of the stone stools. He used a small knife to slice pieces of meat onto a plate. Warden remained still, quietly observing him. He first noticed two stone stools and two sets of cutlery—either Cui Ming had companions or he was waiting for him. Warden disliked feeling manipulated but knew that starting a fight immediately would be unwise. He decided to listen to what Cui Ming had to say first. However, the food and water offered by Cui Ming were not acceptable.
Warden leaped onto the stone and then pushed off it to land beside the stone stool without sitting down. He stood next to it and looked at the rabbit meat on the plate: "Are you waiting for me?" The feeling wasn't good at all.
"Sit down. If I wanted to run, you know you couldn't catch me," Cui Ming added. "In a 360-degree radius, ten kilometers, you wouldn't be able to grab me."
Warden had not made a move yet, wary of Cui Ming's trick. To ensure he could catch Cui Ming—or rather, to increase his odds—Warden planned to wait until Cui Ming was out alone with a friend, preferably someone like Beiyue, before making his move. He also considered directly attacking Cui Ming's friends. Previously, he needed to understand how Cui Ming treated his friends and what human weaknesses he might have.
Warden sat down. Cui Ming reached under the stone table for some sauce and spicy oil, pouring it into small dishes—one for Warden and one for himself. Warden did not touch the food, while Cui Ming began eating. "It tastes really good."
"I'm not hungry," Warden replied. "Just say what you need to say. By the way, you can't escape. I've already attached my soul to your Force; I can track your soul."
Cui Ming smiled and asked, "Do you dare to chase me?"
"Of course I dare."
"A month ago, someone was just as confident as you are. And what happened? He was surrounded by seven people." Cui Ming took a bite of rabbit meat and continued, "By the way, his name was Crow. He was really strong, but two fists can't fight four hands. Warden, if I could trick Crow, it's not impossible to trick you as well. Just hold on; let me finish what I'm saying. I know you'll say I'm all alone, but that's what you think. Otherwise, how could I trick you? In fact, we have no conflict or grudges between us, right?"
Warden actually agreed with this perspective: "Yes."
"As for me, I need to eliminate hidden dangers. Even if I trick you, what good would it do? None at all. As long as the Lich possesses treasures and various abilities, I'll still have to face pursuers. The Eternal Sphere is full of experts; one careless move could bring out a master who would catch me off guard. And I want to live a normal life. Since the Lich doesn't want me to live comfortably, he either has to kill me or I have to kill him."
Warden sneered: "You don't know your limits; the Lich is like a Demigod."
"My boss is also a Demigod; it's nothing special. On the surface, I respect him because he's powerful. Besides, he guards a desert that I'm not interested in at all." Cui Ming said: "Let's be straightforward here, Warden; we're both in this for ourselves. What do you want from the Lich?"
"Why do you ask that?"
"Because we can both get what we need; what I want is a permanent solution."
"Warden" remained unfazed. "What gives you such confidence?"
"Cui Ming" replied, "Because my boss is a Demigod, I know what inheritance means. If the Lich couldn't kill me, I wouldn't be wasting time talking to you like this; it would be either your death or mine. I'm telling you now, the Lich can indeed be killed."
"Be more specific," Warden said.
"In the realm of gods, there's a term called True Origin Power, which we refer to as divine power. Divine power can be inherited, but it has its limitations. Generally speaking, there are two ways to inherit it. The first is called 'Seed'; this 'seed' has no specific inheritor. A god grants True Origin Power to someone, but whether they can comprehend it and become an inheritor depends on their own fortune. The second method is called 'Crossing.' This method guarantees inheritance: first, you plant the True Origin Power in your own Bloodline; second, you use your life, energy, and strength to make the True Origin Power sprout. This is how the Lich's generational inheritance works. My boss said that the Lich's True Origin Power has been modified by the God of Death and cannot leave Shadow Island. The God of Death entrusted True Origin Power to ordinary people to guard Shadow Island. I don't know if you're interested in True Origin Power, but I certainly don't want to spend my life on Shadow Island guarding territory for the God of Death."
Warden stared at Cui Ming for a long time. "How do we kill it?"
Playing dumb, Cui Ming thought, I don't believe you don't understand anything at all. If you didn't understand, you'd question True Origin Power. In fact, when I mentioned True Origin Power, your demeanor showed that you were already aware of it; some things are likely new to you. But you definitely know about True Origin Power and are well aware of the relationship and methods of the Lich's inheritance.
Cui Ming didn't call him out on it. "I don't know about the situation on Shadow Island; what I do know is that there are three individuals: the Lich, the Lich Daughter, and the Lich Son. The Lich Son should be an ordinary child—five years old or maybe four? It doesn't matter. What I want to know is whether the Lich has crossed yet? What about the Lich Daughter?"
Warden hesitated internally; unlike Cui Ming, he had witnessed the terror of the Lich over decades. He had ambition but was also fearful. Cui Ming was patient and waited. After a long while, Warden said, "The Lich is still alive and well; his daughter has already inherited True Origin Power."
Cui Ming was puzzled. "Earlier I received news that the Lich was supposed to die?"
"Just hearsay," Warden replied. "Logically speaking, the Lich shouldn't be in a hurry. However, he broke taboos by repeatedly exterminating forces to leave Shadow Island, causing a backlash from the True Origin Power within him due to his contract with the God of Death. His life is short now, but it's not as if he will die in two years after fleeing to the desert; he can still live for several more years at least. The reason he wants to capture you is that he has thoroughly researched your Strategy but failed with you; however, it turned out to be successful after all. According to the intelligence he sent me to gather, your progress in strength is terrifyingly fast—this victory stems from his unique Strategy cultivation method. Because of this, he needs to know why you suddenly succeeded after failing."
