Unbeknownst to her, Lin had come down from the upper floor and quietly approached Yu Tian.
"Tian, what are you looking at?" Lin gently asked, leaning in closer.
Yu Tian turned his head and nearly bumped into Lin. His heart raced. It had been a long time since they had been this close. There hadn't been an opportunity! So, if you like someone, you shouldn't hesitate or be coy; otherwise, it might be too late. Indeed, when Yu Tian thought about how his days felt like they had no tomorrow, he could only—heh heh—hold Lin tightly and pull her into his embrace. It seemed a bit rough, but he was overwhelmed with excitement and fear of losing her.
Lin struggled lightly a few times before settling down, a sweet smile appearing on her lips. Just so-so.
"Nothing! It's just that I haven't been back for so long; I'm getting used to it," Yu Tian said as he closed the multi-dimensional computer. However, his disobedient mouth was sniffing around Lin's ear. (Everyone take note! The once extremely reserved protagonist is acting like this now! Oh—poor old virgin! Over two hundred years old! Don't blame him!)
"What are you doing? You're getting used to this? Ugh! Stop sniffing me and move away!" Lin looked angry, pouting her lips. In truth, her heart was blooming with happiness; what a wonderful feeling it was to finally have a quiet home!
Lin had long thought about marrying a good man, but just one mission had aged her by hundreds of years. Poor protagonist. As the author, I hope their relationship never faces a crisis, but who knows the truth—it's a secret!
"Sniff my own head? That's like rubbing my elbow against my own head; how could that be possible! Lin, have some pity on me!" Yu Tian pretended to look pitiful, his big eyes staring at Lin. He thought to himself that even if she didn't agree, he wanted to see her flustered. At least it would make her feel embarrassed.
Yu Tian had changed. Lin felt it deeply; when she was held captive by Slicky in the clouds, she sensed a restless evil thought within Yu Tian—or perhaps it was an unfamiliar energy pressing down on him. But she found it strange that even the Beast King seemed afraid of it. She just believed that her lover could break through limitations and control himself. She had witnessed the abnormality that appeared in Yu Tian during his battle with Lichki. Since then, she had worried about leaving him one day.
"Tian! You've changed!" Lin's voice was cold, even though she was nestled in Yu Tian's arms. Yet her tone lacked warmth and pierced directly into Yu Tian's heart.
"Lin! What are you talking about? Of course I've changed! If I were to remain dull all day long, what would be the meaning of life? I want to live my life to the fullest; I want to enjoy each day! Even if—if tomorrow I have to leave or S—" Lin covered Yu Tian's mouth and gently said, "You are not allowed to die! Do you understand? I want you to stay with me for a lifetime; otherwise, you'll be in trouble!"
"Oh? That's what you said! Haha!" Yu Tian suddenly burst into laughter. "But you can't take it back!"
"What? Seriously? Are you starting to trick me now?" Lin punched Yu Tian hard. "Here's a husband-beating punch for you, humph..." Finally, that day had come; two hundred years felt like just one day passing by without leaving a ripple of memory.
"I'm going to cook! Lin, my cooking skills have conquered the entire army!" Yu Tian said as he walked toward the kitchen, and Lin hurried after him. She was suddenly pushed onto the sofa by Yu Tian.
"You wait, Yu Tian! Today I'm going to make a meal out of you!"
"Can you catch me?" Yu Tian quickly dashed into the kitchen. "Today I'll treat you well so you won't have to eat me every day in the future. Besides, I haven't cooked in ages; my cooking is quite good! The dishes I make will definitely taste better than yours!"
Yu Tian and Lin busied themselves in the kitchen; all the ingredients were prepared by Lin earlier as they worked hand in hand to prepare dinner.
Just like a family! No, not quite; they were still missing a child—at least that's what Yu Tian thought.
Seated at the table and waiting for the final dish, Yu Tian held a cup of coffee suspended in mid-air, while his thoughts drifted far away.
One moment he was in the present, the next he was lost in the past, and then he found himself in the future.
What would the outcome be? Yu Tian wondered.
But he couldn't decipher the opening lines of the Divine Canon: All things arise from nothing and all things return to nothing.
Nothingness was profound yet simple, and Yu Tian couldn't understand why he felt so complicated.
How much better it would be if things were simpler!
“Dinner is ready!” Lin's sweet voice pulled Yu Tian back to the present.
His taste buds were awakened by the aroma of the dishes; it had been a long time since he had enjoyed freshly made food! Yu Tian hurriedly helped Lin with the last signature dish—Variety Pork Liver.
After setting the table, Yu Tian quickly took his seat. Besides the pork liver, there was also his favorite Braised Eggplant and Curry Steak.
Yu Tian's mouth watered uncontrollably, betraying his appetite.
“Lin! Where did you get these ingredients? They're hard to come by now!” Yu Tian asked as he bit into a piece of beef and chewed.
“What’s the big deal? I bought them from some wealthy families who grow vegetables and raise livestock; it cost less than thirty thousand Web Currency.”
“Thirty thousand Web Currency!” Yu Tian exclaimed in shock; that amount used to equal the rewards from three missions for him.
“It’s nothing! The government provided us three with a substantial fund; I can't even find out the exact amount. Besides, I had over twenty thousand saved up from before, and after two hundred years, with interest, it’s grown to several million!” Lin said as she nibbled on some greens.
“Yeah! Two hundred years have passed... Ah, never mind that; let’s eat! This pork liver is delicious!” The rice cooked by the Household Robot was quite good; after drinking nutrient solutions for such a long time, eating real rice felt absolutely fantastic.
“Go ahead and eat!” Lin said as she picked up a piece of fish fillet and offered it to Yu Tian.
"What's with the formalities? We're all family now," Yu Tian said, his mouth full of food, speaking somewhat indistinctly.
"What do you mean 'family'?" Lin looked at Yu Tian, a puzzled expression on her face. Suddenly, it seemed like she understood something, and her face flushed bright red.
Yu Tian realized he had crossed a line and hurriedly added, "Lin? How about we get married tomorrow?"
"Who said I would marry you!" Lin playfully pouted. Yet inside, she was repeatedly agreeing; it's just how women are—wanting to be cherished.
"If you don't agree, that's fine! I won't force you!" Yu Tian pretended to act nonchalant as he picked up his food.
"I never said I wouldn't agree!" Lin replied softly, "You're such a child!"
Yu Tian quickly put on a charming smile and began piling food into Lin's bowl while saying, "Then it's settled! Come on, eat more!"
"Stop... stop... do you want to become a fatty?" Lin pouted, looking at Yu Tian with feigned annoyance.
"No! No! I just want you to eat well for your health, so we can..." Yu Tian started explaining like a child, but his voice trailed off.
"Where are your thoughts going? How inappropriate—come on, eat your meal, be good!" Lin said, and surprisingly, Yu Tian obediently quieted down and continued eating.
What had caused Yu Tian's excitement about coming home to fade away? Ah, no matter what! Let's just wish them well! It's just that getting married this early might take some getting used to for everyone! Save this moment, O(∩_∩)O thank you.
