Chen Fan was settled into a temporary residence while Coulson hurriedly made his way to the Director's office to report on Chen Fan's information to Nick Fury.
Seeing his capable subordinate arrive in a rush, drenched in sweat, Director Fury's expression darkened. "What happened? Did you have a conflict with the Target Individual? Or is he unwilling to cooperate?"
"Neither!" Coulson forced a smile. "The Target Individual has already arrived at S.H.I.E.L.D. and is currently settled in the temporary residence."
"Then what on earth happened that has you looking like it's the end of the world?" Nick Fury was puzzled. Since they had successfully brought the Target Individual back to S.H.I.E.L.D., why did Coulson still look so distressed?
"Director, just take a look for yourself. This is the Target Individual's information!" Coulson helplessly handed over the tablet tucked under his arm, which detailed Chen Fan's abilities and background down to the minutiae.
After a moment—
"Coulson, please tell me this is a joke!" Nick Fury exclaimed after reviewing the information. He could no longer sit still; this ability was terrifying—was this another Magneto?
This wasn't just some superpower; it was like having cheat codes! I want to file a complaint!
"I wish it were a joke, but it’s the truth, Director!" Coulson's lips twitched slightly. As for whether Chen Fan exaggerated his abilities, no one would dare test them. Just considering the ominous clouds that had appeared that morning, even if he couldn't cover an entire city, half of one was certainly within reach.
"Is he a mutant?" Nick Fury drummed his fingers on the table. Such area-wide abilities were reminiscent of Magneto’s, except one controlled magnetism while the other controlled electricity, and Chen Fan's influence seemed even broader.
"This gentleman is not a mutant. After extracting his hair and conducting tests, we found no genetic markers present. His abilities likely stem from other sources, though they are more unique than others." At this point, Coulson took a breath and continued in a low voice, "According to our tests, even when detached from his body, that strand of hair still contains energy. By our calculations, it could supply electricity for an average household."
Nick Fury stared blankly, his white teeth flashing as he processed Coulson's report—it sounded like something out of science fiction. Damn it! A single strand of hair containing enough energy to power a household? Was this guy some kind of human portable charger?
Not funny—not funny at all!
“Really? No joke?” Nick Fury's expression suddenly turned serious. He knew that his capable subordinate never joked around, but this time, he truly hoped the other party was just kidding.
“It's true. Although I wish it were false, there’s not a hint of exaggeration!” Coulson understood the director's emotions; when he first heard Chen Fan's self-introduction of his abilities, he felt the same way, nearly exclaiming in disbelief.
“How many people know about this now?” Nick Fury narrowed his eyes. After reviewing the information, he understood Chen Fan's uniqueness.
“Currently, aside from Mr. Chen's mother and maid, it's just you and me!” Coulson reported honestly.
“Alright, from now on, this information is classified as top secret, Level S. I don't want to hear any news related to this file!” Nick Fury stated sternly, his expression cold. He didn’t want Chen Fan's abilities to be exploited by those driven by greed. The S-level confidentiality would help avoid scrutiny from many.
“I understand, Director!” Coulson recognized the consequences of leaking Chen Fan's abilities. “Do we need to meet with Mr. Chen?”
“No need. The Target Individual will be your responsibility for now; the fewer people who know, the better!” After a moment of contemplation, Nick Fury made his decision. “There are no tasks for you at the moment, so consider it a break and act as a tutor for this gentleman!”
The maid had been brought in by herself, and now they needed a tutor. Coulson was a suitable teacher, so Director Nick Fury happily decided on this arrangement.
“I think someone definitely needs to keep a close watch on this gentleman!” Although Coulson was reluctant to interact with Chen Fan and disliked his uncontrollable mysterious abilities, he had to obey the director's orders.
After Nick Fury confirmed the choice of tutor for Chen Fan, on the other side, resting on Maid Sister's slender legs, Chen Fan furrowed his brows. His gaze was fixed on a flickering image on the television screen—the superhero Spider-Man as described by New Yorkers.
What Spider-Man intended to do had nothing to do with Chen Fan; however, he watched intently as the scene unfolded. If he wasn't mistaken, where Spider-Man was battling criminals was near one of Chen Fan's family company's subsidiaries—Katy Apparel Limited.
As the battle intensified, Spider-Man finally climbed onto the building of Chen Fan's family company. Chen Fan's pupils constricted as he prayed that the chaos wouldn’t spread to his company’s headquarters.
Chen Fan's prayers were clearly in vain. For a superhero who brought destruction wherever he went, battles inevitably resulted in loss of life and property.
With a thunderous crash, the giant made of sand suddenly slammed Spider-Man into Chen Fan's company building. The scene vividly showed that at least two large glass panels were shattered, and a one-meter section of the floor was broken. Behind the shattered glass, countless shocked faces could be seen, and moments later, those bewildered individuals began to panic, fleeing and screaming in terror.
"Spider-Man? You just smashed my company! That's my family's company!" Chen Fan exclaimed as he sprang up from his soft knees, his pale and youthful face contorted with extreme anger.
Having been a struggling office worker for over a decade, Chen Fan had developed a strong virtue of frugality, often stretching every dollar to its limit. Although he possessed a vast fortune, he had no intention of wasting it—especially not when it came to his own money.
But destroying his family's company was cutting off their livelihood!
Repairs and employee compensation would cost money—money that would undoubtedly come from Chen Fan's pocket!
Glaring at Spider-Man, who had just smashed five more glass panels, Chen Fan's dark eyes transformed into brilliant gold, flickering with strands of lightning.
"My God!"
Coulson hurried back to Chen Fan's temporary residence after finishing his report. When no one was watching this gentleman, he felt uneasy. However, upon entering the room, he was met with a pair of dazzling golden eyes staring at him. Under that gaze, he felt his heart tighten, as if it might stop beating.
"What on earth happened to make you so angry, Mr. Chen Fan?" Coulson wiped the sweat from his brow; interacting with this man felt like walking on eggshells.
"Spider-Man smashed my company!" Chen Fan took a moment to compose himself, his golden eyes fixed intently on Coulson.
Smashed someone's company? Coulson glanced at the footage playing on the television and felt his resentment toward Spider-Man intensify. He nearly wanted to roar out loud: What were you thinking smashing someone’s company for no reason?
"You know we don't have the energy to catch him right now. How about this: once we manage to capture Spider-Man, we can ask him to compensate you!" Coulson wiped the sweat from his brow. Despite the air conditioning in the room, he couldn't stop sweating.
"Capture him? When? In a few years or maybe a decade? Ha ha—" Chen Fan sneered, his heart aching as he looked at the image of the damaged buildings.
Damn it, this isn't glass or bricks; it's money!
"Young Master, I think this kind of situation should be handled by an insurance company!" Silphy suggested, noticing Chen Fan's rising anger. She felt it necessary to remind him that for such unexpected losses, the insurance company had a responsibility to compensate.
Well done! Coulson silently applauded. He had initially thought bringing her along would be a burden, but she turned out to be unexpectedly useful.
"Is that so?" Chen Fan's tone was filled with skepticism, but his anger had dissipated. His golden eyes returned to their original dark hue as he glanced at Coulson and asked, "The insurance company will pay up, right?"
"Rest assured, sir. I guarantee the insurance company will compensate you!" Coulson replied quickly, patting his chest in assurance. If the insurance company tried to back out, he would confront them with that long and convoluted title of his.
Chen Fan thought for a moment; it made sense. He then sat back on the sofa, watching with interest as Spider-Man was tossed around while his own company lay in ruins. He no longer felt upset about the money; after all, someone else would pay.
Looking at the destruction along the entire street, he silently mourned for the insurance companies of this world. To them, superheroes and supervillains were no different; they were all experts in destruction, causing damage wherever they went!
"By the way, when we catch Spider-Man in the future, he should also compensate for his share!" Chen Fan's eyes sparkled with a new idea. This way, he could receive two compensations—it's all about the money!
"Sure, no problem!" Coulson replied with a wry smile, accommodating Chen Fan's newfound calmness. He sighed inwardly; as long as he was happy!
