Zhao Jun really didn't want to engage much with Li Wei and the other three. At a time like this, they still had the spirit to play around, which showed that they hadn't taken their current situation seriously at all.
Tang Hao'er stuck out her tongue and wrapped her arm around Zhao Jun's: "Zhao Jun, we know we were wrong. Come and see what we found; there are so many delicious things!"
Zhao Jun glanced at the shriveled canvas backpack they had tossed aside and sighed lightly in his heart. After all this time, and with four people, they had managed to gather less food than he could on his own. Without needing to ask, Zhao Jun could guess that when they went to the shore, they must have only picked up what they liked, treating the trip as a form of entertainment.
Zhao Jun shook his head gently and said to the four of them, "The tide is going to rise soon. Pay attention to the water levels and don't miss the time to return to the cave. Life is your own; there's only one. Once it's lost, no one gets a chance to regret it. Alright, I need to go check on the situation at Bandit Nest."
Cheng Zhengxiong stepped forward awkwardly and said, "Zhao Jun, I'm sorry. It's all my fault."
Zhao Jun smiled and patted Cheng Zhengxiong's arm. "Let's not dwell on that now; our time is limited. I'm heading out first. You all try to collect more food and firewood, and keep an eye out for any movements around you."
Cheng Zhengxiong nodded in agreement. Zhao Jun gave a nod to the others before turning towards the mountain. Tang Hao'er hurriedly slung her AK over her shoulder and caught up with Zhao Jun, tugging at his sleeve as she complained, "Aren't you going to wait for me? Are you really angry?"
Li Wei and Cheng Zhengxiong exchanged a few words before following suit. Originally, he planned to head over to the crashed helicopter to gather some useful items; he hadn't forgotten about that. Since Zhao Jun was taking a shortcut through Bandit Nest, it was convenient.
Zhao Jun glanced at the two following him and sighed lightly as he asked, "Do you think that if we get caught by those bandits, we can just pay them off? That our lives wouldn't be in danger?"
Tang Hao'er stuck out her tongue again, looking sheepish as she asked Zhao Jun, "How did you know?"
It seemed they indeed had that mindset.
Zhao Jun looked at Tang Hao'er and exhaled deeply. "If it were before we took out their accomplices, maybe there was some possibility of that. But now we've already eliminated three of their partners and there's still a helicopter involved. Do you think these issues can be resolved with money? If I were the leader of those bandits, I would want both money and lives; otherwise, how would I maintain my authority among them?"
Li Wei smirked slightly and whispered, "They shouldn't be so ruthless, right? That Shen Kun looks pretty cowardly."
"Cowardly?" Zhao Jun glared at Li Wei and asked, "How do you figure he's cowardly? He was pretending to be weak in front of you to trick you into joining this event. Now that we're on his turf, do you think he'll still act cowardly? If these bandits weren't truly vicious, would they have shot at us when we climbed over the wall? To them, we're just the meat they kidnapped. If they've really kidnapped three hundred people from all over the world, do you think they'd care about killing one or two?"
Li Wei fell silent, realizing that among the thirty-two people from China, aside from Zhao Jun, each of their family backgrounds seemed much stronger than his. If the bandits were indeed killing based on wealth, Zhao Jun would be first on the list, and he would likely rank in the top three.
Zhao Jun exhaled and said, "Some things can't be settled with money. I agree with Brother Yang; even if we die, we should die with dignity."
Li Wei seemed to come to a realization, as if some kind of bloodlust within him had been ignited. He shook himself and looked at Zhao Jun, saying, "Zhao Jun, don't! It's just a fight with them; who’s afraid of whom? I'm going with you. Let's see if we can rescue Yang Bing and the others."
Zhao Jun smiled bitterly and replied, "Let's see how it goes. Rescuing Brother Yang and the others isn't an easy task."
The three of them fell silent as they crawled near the wreckage of the crashed helicopter. Zhao Jun motioned for Li Wei and Tang Hao'er to stay hidden in the shadows while he picked up a fist-sized rock to throw as a way to scout.
After throwing the rock and waiting for over ten minutes without any unusual movements, Zhao Jun threw another rock directly onto the helicopter wreckage. After another long wait, he finally signaled Tang Hao'er and Li Wei to follow him from their hiding spot as he cautiously approached the wreckage.
Seeing Zhao Jun's careful demeanor made Tang Hao'er and Li Wei extremely nervous; their palms were already sweaty. This was real combat, not a game—one careless mistake could cost them their lives.
Zhao Jun thoroughly searched around the helicopter wreckage for any hidden enemies before confirming that the bandits had not stationed anyone there. He waved for Tang Hao'er and Li Wei to come over and said to Li Wei, "Li Wei, you should stay here to gather supplies. There are many useful items on the helicopter for us. I might just end up running to Bandit Nest without accomplishing anything. Once you've collected everything, head back directly; Da Xiong is injured, and they have no weapons. I'm a bit worried."
Li Wei had already been hesitant about going to Bandit Nest; hearing Zhao Jun's instructions made him hesitate a moment longer before agreeing.
Seeing Li Wei agree to stay behind, Zhao Jun turned to Tang Hao'er. Tang Hao'er stubbornly replied, "You don't need to persuade me; I'm going with you."
Zhao Jun nodded helplessly and raised his wrist to check the time. "It's getting late; we should go."
Reaching the top of the mountain, they could already see the Bandit Nest nestled in the bay below. At night, illuminated by searchlights, the Bandit Nest stood out prominently.
In the quiet night, the sound of waves crashing against the shore echoed from afar, mingled with the rustling of wind through the trees and the chirping of unknown insects, creating a serene atmosphere. However, only those present could sense the underlying evil and murderous intent hidden within this tranquility.
Zhao Jun and Tang Hao'er cautiously approached to within about a hundred meters of the Bandit Nest before stopping. From this distance, they could clearly see the bandits on the watchtowers at each corner. The bandits' searchlights occasionally swept around, but they appeared distracted, clearly unaware that anyone would dare to sneak so close.
Zhao Jun quietly observed the situation in the Bandit Nest through the scope of his AUG, feeling a headache coming on.
Lying beside him, Tang Hao'er looked at Zhao Jun and whispered, "Zhao Jun, what are your plans?"
Zhao Jun replied with a pained expression, "There's no easy way to sneak in; those searchlights limit our movements. I think we should fire a reconnaissance shot at the bandits on their watchtowers. After that, we can leave."
Tang Hao'er’s eyes lit up. "I agree! I'll take out the two in front while you handle the ones in back. How does that sound?"
