Zhao Jun sprinted toward the nearby forest when suddenly a few figures emerged from the trees. Leading the charge were Li Wei and Tang Hao'er. 0

Tang Hao'er waved her hand vigorously at Zhao Jun, her voice choked with emotion as she called out, "Zhao Jun, you’re alive..." 0

Since the morning when Zhao Jun had drawn away their pursuers, gunfire had erupted in the forest, and Li Wei, Tang Hao'er, and the others had feared the worst for him. Now, seeing Zhao Jun running down from the mountaintop, Tang Hao'er couldn't help but burst into tears of joy. 0

Zhao Jun ran as fast as he could, waving his arms at the approaching Li Wei and Tang Hao'er while shouting loudly, "Get back! The bandits' helicopter is coming!" 0

He quickened his pace even more, but the distance was too great; Li Wei and Tang Hao'er couldn’t hear clearly what Zhao Jun was saying. Instead, they increased their speed to reach him. 0

Zhao Jun felt a surge of frustration as he slid down a steep rock face, yelling at Li Wei and Tang Hao'er, "Hurry back! The enemy is coming!" 0

At that moment, Li Wei and Tang Hao'er heard the unmistakable sound of a helicopter engine approaching from the mountaintop. Tang Hao'er cupped her hands around her mouth and shouted down to Zhao Jun, "Hurry up! The helicopter is here!" 0

Using the momentum from his descent, Zhao Jun flipped over and got back on his feet. He quickly removed his cumbersome combat boots from around his neck and tossed them aside before sprinting toward Li Wei and Tang Hao'er, shouting, "Run!" 0

Just as he finished speaking, a barrage of assault rifle fire erupted from the mountaintop. Zhao Jun instinctively ducked his head in fear, propelling himself to run even faster. 0

When faced with danger, a person often taps into hidden reserves of strength. Although Zhao Jun had been running for quite some time and felt he was about to collapse, the sound of gunfire behind him ignited a sudden burst of energy. In an instant, he reached Li Wei and Tang Hao'er. Without hesitation, he grabbed Tang Hao'er's arm and continued sprinting toward the edge of the forest, urging her, "Get back into the trees and hide!" 0

Cheng Zhengxiong and Su Mei, who had only just ventured out of the forest, quickly turned around upon hearing his call and rushed back. Li Wei panted heavily beside Zhao Jun, his eyes shining with curiosity as he asked about the AUG assault rifle in Zhao Jun's hands. "Where did you get that gun?" 0

It was an obvious question; of course, he had taken it from one of the bandits. 0

Zhao Jun ignored Li Wei's inquiry. Ahead of them appeared a wide crevice resembling a cliff. Without hesitation, he bent down and hoisted Tang Hao'er onto his shoulder. With one hand gripping the assault rifle and the other securely holding onto her waist, he leaped over the gap. 0

Tang Hao'er nervously clutched Zhao Jun's shirt, desperately suppressing her panic and refraining from crying out. 0

Su Mei's painful lesson echoed in her mind; there was no way Tang Hao'er would make the same mistake again. 0

However, being hoisted over Zhao Jun's shoulder filled Tang Hao'er with a warm sensation that swirled within her chest. 0

This rascal, even at such a moment, had no intention of abandoning me. Fine, I’ll forgive you for that forceful kiss. 0

Zhao Jun, unaware that Tang Hao'er was lost in her thoughts, sprinted through the rocky terrain with her on his shoulder. He stole a glance back at the mountaintop, relieved to see no sign of the helicopter he wanted to avoid. 0

At this point, Zhao Jun had no time to ponder why the people in the helicopter were shooting; he dashed into the forest with Tang Hao'er in tow. 0

Cheng Zhengxiong, hidden behind a tree, waved urgently at Zhao Jun. "Teacher Zhao, come over here!" 0

Once they entered the woods, Zhao Jun finally breathed a sigh of relief. He turned back to shout at Li Wei, who was running behind them, drenched in sweat. "Hurry up!" 0

As he spoke, Zhao Jun continued to run toward Cheng Zhengxiong's direction while carrying Tang Hao'er. She lay against his shoulder, enduring the discomfort caused by his jumps and movements. Her hands gripped his shirt tightly as the unpleasant smell of sweat assaulted her senses. With every breath of this unfamiliar man's scent, she cursed inwardly, "You jerk! We're already in the woods and you still won’t put me down? Is this deliberate?" 0

Zhao Jun finally reached Cheng Zhengxiong and set Tang Hao'er down on the ground. Just as he prepared to answer Cheng Zhengxiong's question about how many pursuers were coming after them, a sudden sharp pain shot through his neck. 0

He quickly pushed Tang Hao'er away from him and glared at her. "What are you doing?" 0

Tang Hao'er's face flushed bright red as she angrily shoved his hand off her chest. She stomped on his foot and huffed, "I'm not injured! I can run on my own; why are you carrying me?" 0

Zhao Jun awkwardly retracted his hand and rubbed his neck. In the heat of the moment, he hadn't thought about the implications of his actions. Carrying Tang Hao'er had been instinctive; as a man, he felt a responsibility to protect women at all times. However, when Tang Hao'er had bitten him on the neck, pushing her away had inadvertently led to him pressing against her chest, which was quite embarrassing. 0

Clearing his throat to avoid the flustered Tang Hao'er, Zhao Jun crouched under a tree with Cheng Zhengxiong and said, "I only saw a helicopter coming after us. I'm not sure how many people are on board. We should hide for now; they won't be able to see us in the trees. Once it gets dark, we can find a safer place." 0

At that moment, Li Wei rushed over, panting heavily, and plopped down beside Zhao Jun. Ignoring the sweat dripping from his forehead, he reached for the AUG Assault Rifle in Zhao Jun's hands with gleaming eyes. "Wow! You actually got an AUG! Let me see it; I've always liked this gun!" 0

Zhao Jun frowned and raised the rifle higher to evade Li Wei's grasp. With a stern expression, he said to the excited Li Wei, "Li Wei, what time is it? Be serious." 0

Li Wei grinned sheepishly and withdrew his hand. He knew this wasn't the time for games, but he couldn't help feeling eager about the AUG in Zhao Jun's possession. 0

As Li Wei pulled back his hand, he noticed that Zhao Jun's grip on the rifle was stained with dried blood. Raising an eyebrow, he asked, "Did you kill someone?" 0

Zhao Jun's eye twitched slightly as he ignored Li Wei's question. He peered through the gaps in the branches toward the mountain peak and whispered, "We're too close to the edge of the forest. If the thugs in the helicopter start searching seriously, they might find us. We should retreat deeper into the woods." 0

No one opposed Zhao Jun's suggestion. The group helped each other up, and Zhao Jun instructed them, "You all go ahead; I'll cover your backs." 0

Cheng Zhengxiong patted Zhao Jun on the shoulder with a serious expression and said, "Teacher Zhao, no matter if we make it back alive or not, I consider you a friend for life." 0

Since seeing the helicopter chasing them that morning and watching Zhao Jun divert its attention alone, Cheng Zhengxiong had regarded Zhao Jun as a lifesaver—a friend whose status was equal to that of Yang Bing, whose fate remained uncertain. 0

Anyone who could draw away enemies in such dire circumstances was worthy of being considered a friend worth risking one's life for. 0
