Yang Bing was definitely not an easy person to deal with, but he had a knack for knowing just how far to push Shen Kun's patience.
In his heart, Yang Bing understood that this group was making such a big fuss simply to seek money. All he needed to do was buy time, allowing his injuries to heal as quickly as possible. As long as he could regain his strength, what was there to fear?
After more than half an hour of Yang Bing's stubbornness, Shen Kun finally conceded defeat. With a dark expression, he smiled at Yang Bing and said, "Mr. Yang, our patience has its limits. I will give you some time to think it over. Once you've made your decision, transfer the money to our account, and you will still be our esteemed guest on Fortune Island. Otherwise... well, Mr. Yang is a smart man; I shouldn't need to elaborate."
Yang Bing laughed heartily and waved his hand at Shen Kun. "So soon and you've already shown your true colors? How boring! Go scare someone else; I'm full and need a nap."
Shen Kun sneered three times. "Very well, Mr. Yang, rest up. I hope we can reach a pleasant conclusion."
"Spare me the nonsense! If you're happy, I can't be! If we were somewhere else, I'd have knocked your teeth out by now." Yang Bing grinned as he lay back on the bed, kicking the now-empty tray off the bed onto the floor. His arrogant demeanor was even more impressive than that of the pirates.
Shen Kun gave Yang Bing a thumbs-up and turned to leave the room, commanding the pirates behind him, "Keep a close watch on Mr. Yang."
Yang Bing pulled a blanket over himself and actually closed his eyes. However, his mind was occupied with thoughts of Zhao Jun and the other four who had managed to escape.
Four bandits were still searching for Zhao Jun and the others outside. What was their situation now? Could they handle being pursued by those four bandits?
Among the five who had escaped, Yang Bing only had faith in Zhao Jun. Zhao Jun was meticulous in thought, and there was something familiar in his gaze that reminded Yang Bing of comrades long gone.
That look represented a belief—a tenacious spirit that pressed forward against all odds.
As for the other four, they had been pampered in a sheltered environment; it would be remarkable if they could take care of themselves in the wild. Yet Yang Bing wasn't overly worried about their safety. He knew that with such a large operation set up by the bandits, they wouldn't easily harm hostages on the island—at least not until they received their ransom. Their lives would be safe unless something unexpected occurred.
While Yang Bing was concerned about the five who had escaped, Zhao Jun, hiding among the rocks, was simultaneously thinking of Yang Bing.
Zhao Jun had witnessed Yang Bing fall against the wall, blood gushing from his chest. To him, Yang Bing was his savior. He knew that given his status if he fell into that den of thieves, his chances of survival were slim; those people wouldn’t hesitate to use his blood to intimidate others.
Survive and find a way to rescue Yang Bing and the others.
Just as Zhao Jun pondered how to save Yang Bing and those trapped in the bandits' lair, a sudden flurry of gunfire erupted from the distant forest.
Zhao Jun's expression changed as he slowly shifted his body and crawled out from the narrow crevice in the rock. He quietly moved behind a large stone, peering in the direction of the gunfire.
Could it be that Tang Hao'er and the others had been discovered by the bandits?
That shouldn't be the case. After spotting the helicopter searching for them, he had already drawn the bandits away in the opposite direction. Logically, Tang Hao'er and the others should have long since escaped and shouldn’t still be in this forest.
Could it be that they were worried about him and returned to look for him, only to be spotted by the bandits?
Zhao Jun stared into the forest, his face shifting between hope and despair.
The distance was too great; he couldn't see what was happening in the woods, making it hard for him to decide whether he should sneak over to check on the situation.
As Zhao Jun was lost in thought, a figure suddenly appeared at the edge of the forest.
His expression changed again. Although he couldn't clearly see who had emerged from such a distance, the swaggering manner of the person made Zhao Jun certain that it was not Tang Hao'er and her group.
His assumption was confirmed when a second and then a third figure stepped out of the trees. From Zhao Jun's vantage point, he could vaguely see that they were holding Assault Rifles.
At this distance, Zhao Jun didn’t need to worry about being spotted by these bandits. He simply crouched down a bit more and continued to observe them from behind the large stone, concerned that they might suddenly escort Tang Hao'er and her companions out.
Fortunately, when a fourth figure appeared in Zhao Jun's line of sight, it was also alone. He couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief; it seemed these guys hadn’t discovered Tang Hao'er and her friends after all.
The last person to emerge from the forest seemed to be filled with frustration as he raised his weapon and swept it through the trees before turning to chase after the other three who had already moved some distance away.
Zhao Jun continued to watch for a while longer. When he saw that the bandits were heading directly toward him, he quietly retreated from behind the large stone and squeezed himself back into that small crevice. He reached out to cover himself with some broken branches and leaves, exposing only his eyes to observe what was happening outside. However, in this narrow space, even with his eyes wide open, he could only see a palm-sized area above him.
After about half an hour, Zhao Jun heard the voices of the bandits again. He perked up his ears and listened for a moment before finally feeling at ease.
These guys had spent several hours searching through that part of the forest without finding anyone. Eventually, they gave up their search and vented their frustrations by firing a few shots into the trees.
Although this deserted island wasn’t very large, it was densely forested with strange rock formations. Unless a large-scale carpet search was conducted, it was relatively easy to find a hidden spot to evade detection. After all, Zhao Jun had managed to hide right under the bandits' noses.
Hearing the voices of the bandits getting closer, Zhao Jun tightly gripped the fist-sized stone in his hand and quietly squeezed himself further into the crevice, hiding even more discreetly.
On this deserted island, there were no roads to speak of. However, people tend to follow habitual thinking, instinctively retracing their steps along familiar paths, which psychologically reassures them that these routes are safe. This was especially true for the pirates, who were accustomed to living on the edge. They were more cautious than ordinary people, so when they decided to abandon their search for Zhao Jun and his companions, they chose to return the way they came.
Zhao Jun had gathered from the pirates' conversation that they had temporarily given up on their search. Once they passed by him, he could safely look for Tang Hao'er and the others.
However, things did not go as planned. The group of pirates approached and stopped near the large stone where Zhao Jun was hiding. One of them shouted loudly into the distance, "Rang, stop dawdling and hurry up!"
From afar, a pirate named Rang responded angrily, "Damn it, Henry! I twisted my ankle! Come over here and carry me back!"
Henry laughed as he called out to Rang, "You give me two hundred bucks, and I'll come over to carry you!"
Another pirate chimed in with a laugh, "Rang, how about I carry you? I don't want your money, but after I carry you back, you have to sleep with me."
Henry shouted back with a grin, "Rang, Bian has been eyeing your backside for a long time. Why not just give in to him?"
"Go to hell!" Rang retorted. Suddenly, a barrage of bullets hit the large stone where Zhao Jun was hiding, sending shards flying.
The pirates dodged Rang's gunfire and burst out from their hiding spot with laughter. Henry called out to Rang as he limped over after putting down his gun, "Well then, you can make your own way back. I'm heading back to camp to find that white rabbit."
With that, the three pirates laughed heartily as they swaggered past Zhao Jun and made their way down toward their hideout in the mountains.
