Tang Hao'er, with her beautiful big eyes, looked at Yang Bing and Zhao Jun. After a moment, she turned to Zhao Jun and said with a playful smile, "Teacher Zhao, you promised me that you would be my bodyguard once we got to the island. You can't go back on your word."
Zhao Jun chuckled and asked, "Did I really promise? I don't remember that."
Tang Hao'er pinched the flesh on Zhao Jun's arm fiercely and said, "A man’s word is his bond. If you didn’t refuse, it means you agreed."
Not refusing counted as agreeing? Was there really such unreasonable logic?
Zhao Jun sighed in resignation and raised his hands in surrender. "Alright, I’ll consider it an agreement. Just let go of me."
Tang Hao'er giggled and shot a flirtatious glance at Zhao Jun before leaning toward Yang Bing. "Brother Yang, you promised me too, right?"
Yang Bing smiled and replied, "I only promised that I would help if someone threatened the safety of my fellow countrymen. I never agreed to be your bodyguard."
Tang Hao'er laughed and said, "That’s basically the same thing! As long as I'm by your side, you'll have to help me whenever I'm in danger."
Li Wei, sitting on a suitcase, secretly nudged Zhao Jun's foot with his own and gave him a mischievous grin.
They were already getting physical; that was progress.
Zhao Jun ignored the scheming Li Wei and pulled out his phone from his pocket. After glancing at it, he said, "No signal."
Yang Bing chuckled and added, "The plane lost signal shortly after leaving Seda Island. This area is basically a no-man's land; we can only communicate via satellite signals."
Tang Hao'er also took out her phone and pouted. "There really is no signal. I wanted to check my social media."
Li Wei looked at Tang Hao'er and asked, "Sister Tang, what made you want to join this travel group?"
Tang Hao'er put away her phone and laughed. "This group sounds like so much fun! So many people fighting together from all over the world—it's way more exciting than just playing paintball."
Yang Bing, Zhao Jun, and Li Wei exchanged knowing smiles. Given Tang Hao'er's fiery personality, it seemed she truly joined this Chicken Dinner Team just for the thrill.
In fact, aside from seeking fun, Tang Hao'er had another reason for participating in the Chicken Dinner Team.
This year, Tang Hao'er was in her third year of college and had reached the age where discussions about marriage were becoming relevant.
The Tang family was quite relaxed about Tang Hao'er making friends. As a super wealthy family, they no longer needed to rely on marriage alliances to solidify their power. Tang Hao'er could choose her friends based solely on her preferences, even if she fancied a farmer or a worker; the Tang family would never interfere.
Of course, given Old Tang's fondness for Tang Hao'er, if she were to marry a farmer in the future, that farmer would undoubtedly become an extraordinary figure in his own right, someone who would have to navigate life with the same grandeur as if he were driving down a highway.
Although the Tang family no longer needed marriage to strengthen their influence, countless families still hoped to establish close ties with them through such means. Even during her three years at university, and back when she was in middle school, Tang Hao'er had no shortage of suitors. The methods these suitors employed were varied and creative, including several self-scripted heroic rescue scenarios. It could easily fill a book titled "Thirty-Six Strategies for Courtship," which would surely be a bestseller.
Tang Hao'er found these persistent suitors incredibly bothersome. To escape them, she decided to vanish at the start of summer vacation and joined the Chicken Dinner Team, which was heading to a remote island overseas. This way, she could at least enjoy some peace and quiet.
She had asked her uncle in Kashi City to secretly sign her up for this trip; otherwise, her suitors would have crowded the Chicken Dinner Team. The registration fee of 180,000 yuan was nothing to them compared to the immense benefits they believed they would gain from winning her over.
Zhao Jun had no idea about Tang Hao'er's predicament. He smiled and shook his head as he looked at her. "Not many girls participate in this event. Sister Su and Sister Ding are here with their boyfriends; you're the only exception."
Tang Hao'er looked at Zhao Jun and suddenly broke into a mischievous smile. She wrapped her arms around his and tilted her head back with a playful grin. "You're right! Well then, I've decided: from now on, you are my boyfriend for one month."
Zhao Jun was taken aback by her words. His reference to her being an exception meant that she was actively participating in the group, not that she didn't have a boyfriend.
He hurriedly tried to pull his arm away from Tang Hao'er, blushing furiously. "That won't do..."
"What? Am I not good enough for you? Teacher Zhao?" Tang Hao'er tightened her grip on his arm, her beautiful eyes fixed on him with an expression reminiscent of Tom and Jerry.
Zhao Jun struggled twice but couldn't break free. He dared not move; the soft contact was more than he could handle. Just managing to keep his composure without nosebleeds felt like a victory.
Seeing Zhao Jun frozen like a statue, Tang Hao'er burst into laughter. She boldly clung to his arm and called out to Li Wei, "Li Wei, you need to witness this! He is officially my boyfriend now, so once we get to the island, he has the responsibility of protecting me. Right?"
Zhao Jun felt a wave of embarrassment wash over him while Li Wei grinned mischievously. "That's right! If he dares not protect you, I'll have words with him. Wait here; let me take a picture of you two so he can't back out later."
With a click, Li Wei snapped a photo of Zhao Jun and Tang Hao'er together—Zhao Jun looking utterly speechless while Tang Hao'er beamed with pride.
After taking the picture, Tang Hao'er finally released Zhao Jun's arm. He lunged for Li Wei's phone, but Li Wei quickly tucked it away into his pocket and glared at Zhao Jun. "What? Trying to destroy evidence? This is solid proof; you can't escape it if you wanted to."
Yang Bing chuckled and said, "This is your young people's business; don't involve me."
Tang Hao'er smiled brightly at Yang Bing. "Brother Yang, how old are you that you consider yourself an elder? How about we become sworn siblings?"
Yang Bing suddenly felt a wave of embarrassment wash over him. He quickly stood up and said to the three, "You all keep chatting; I need to use the restroom."
Seeing Yang Bing flee in a panic, even the embarrassed Zhao Jun couldn't help but burst into laughter.
Tang Hao'er was truly something else; she had managed to scare off the cool Yang Bing.
The laughter of the three drew the attention of others in the cabin. When people noticed that Tang Hao'er was among those laughing, they quickly relaxed.
Zhao Jun sensed a particularly malicious gaze among those looking over, and he frowned slightly as he turned to see Ye Tong's eyes locking onto his.
Ever since Tang Hao'er joined the Chicken Dinner Team, Ye Tong had been trying every possible way to curry favor with her. Unfortunately, it seemed that Tang Hao'er was not interested in him at all, barely acknowledging him with a word.
Little did Ye Tong know that Tang Hao'er was surrounded by people who flaunted their connections, and his self-introduction had already sparked her immense disdain. The direct result of that disdain was that he had effectively been blacklisted by her.
Zhao Jun and Ye Tong's eyes met, and Zhao Jun shot Ye Tong a mocking glance before looking away. He held a deep-seated contempt for Ye Tong, who embodied the spoiled rich kid persona.
With your father backing you up, you think you're invincible? Just wait until your father either passes away or goes bankrupt; then you’ll see what those who once fawned over you will look like.
Just as Zhao Jun was about to feign some closeness with Tang Hao'er to irritate Ye Tong, the dim cabin suddenly lit up brightly as a blinding beam of light shone in from outside.
The drowsy Chicken Dinner Players in the cabin instantly woke up. People clamored and rushed toward the few windows available, with someone exclaiming, "It's an island! We've reached our destination!"
