Chapter 54: Nine Lives
Ji Zichen, filled with a mix of shock and anger, exclaimed, "I'll kill you!" as she witnessed Xia Zhou's hand being broken.
Though still feeling a bit dazed, Kiko knew she had no choice but to act. She thrust her Demon-Slaying Sword toward Samoyan. With a powerful flap of his wings, Samoyan attacked at a speed Kiko could not react to. He avoided the blade and kicked her on the left side, sending Kiko flying to the ground once more.
Kiko was both frightened and furious, thinking to herself, "What incredible speed! If I don't find a way to limit his speed, I'll never be able to touch him."
After pondering for a moment, Kiko decided to try using Water Rope.
She pushed herself up and launched an attack on Samoyan, hoping to use her strike as cover so that Water Rope could ensnare Samoyan's ankle. If she could wrap his ankle, her chances of winning would significantly increase.
Kiko slashed at Samoyan's throat with her sword. Samoyan dodged to the side just in time; the tip of the Demon-Slaying Sword barely missed piercing his throat. With a smirk, Samoyan retreated, becoming alert as he heard rustling sounds behind him.
Out of the corner of his eye, Samoyan caught sight of a snake-like Water Rope slithering toward his ankle. With another flap of his wings, he soared into the air.
"Almost fell for your trick," Samoyan laughed coldly.
Seeing Samoyan evade the Water Rope, Kiko sighed in frustration. "He can fly; Water Rope poses no threat to him."
"Samoyan!"
As Samoyan hovered in the air, he slowly descended and glanced sideways toward the entrance where Sister Nine stood proudly, with Lin Chuyu by her side.
Upon seeing Sister Nine appear, Samoyan chuckled lightly. "You're back. I thought you had escaped with the villagers."
Sister Nine replied coldly, "I thought you were dead. It's just as well you're not because I want to kill you myself!"
"Kill me?" Samoyan laughed heartily. "Do you really have the confidence to kill me? You should know very well that you are no match for me. If you thought you had that ability, you wouldn't have waited until now. Sister Nine, I advise you to behave, because I don't want to kill you just yet, but don't think I have any good intentions."
Samoyan continued, "I love watching you suffer. If I killed you, wouldn't that take away my fun? You're just in time; I want you to realize one thing: whether in the past, present, or future, just like your adoptive father, neither of you can kill me. But first, I need to deal with Ji Zichen because he has been too arrogant."
"And then there are those you care about. But don't think too much; I won't really take their lives. I will break their limbs, cut out their tongues, and seal their ears. I will leave them with eyes filled with pain and humiliation staring at you."
Lin Chuyu and Sister Nine were both horrified by Samoyan's cruelty and could not speak.
Sister Nine's eyes darkened as she coldly glared at Samoyan, her voice as icy as snow. "I won't let you do as you please!"
As her mask came off, her eyes transformed into cat-like slits, a tail sprouted from behind her, and her fingers elongated into sharp claws. Sister Nine's oval face remained unchanged—fair and pristine.
The moment Sister Nine revealed her feline form, she attacked. Her claws moved like countless phantoms toward Samoyan. Samoyan used his wings to dodge and weave through the myriad of claw strikes. The two fought with incredible speed; to Ji Zichen's eyes, they were merely moving shadows, making it impossible to see their true forms.
Lin Chuyu rushed toward Ji Zichen, anxiously scanning him. "Brother Ji, are you okay?"
"I'm fine," Ji Zichen replied as he looked at Xia Zhou. "Let's go check on him."
Xia Zhou leaned against a collapsed wall, panting heavily. He covered his severed arm while watching Sister Nine and Samoyan fight. In his heart, he marveled at how fast Sister Nine was; she could completely keep up with Samoyan's speed.
When Ji Zichen and Xia Zhou arrived, Ji Zichen expressed concern. "Your hand..."
Xia Zhou's complexion had improved compared to before. "It's nothing; while you were fighting Samoyan, I already applied some ointment."
Ji Zichen exclaimed in surprise, "Your hand is broken! Is that ointment even effective...?"
Xia Zhou chuckled, "It's useful. As long as my hand isn't chopped off, I'm fine."
Ji Zichen nodded, "That's true. The divine race has all sorts of miraculous medicines."
Sister Nine and Samoyan continued their fierce battle, their figures suddenly separating.
Ji Zichen's sharp eyes caught sight of a scratch from a cat's claw on Samoyan's right wing. She gasped, "Samoyan is injured!"
Samoyan glanced at the wounded wing and chuckled, "Not bad, Sister Nine. I didn't expect you to be able to hurt me."
Seeing that she had indeed scratched Samoyan's wing, Sister Nine was surprised. "I hurt him?"
But Sister Nine maintained her composure, feigning indifference as she declared, "So what if I hurt you? I was just warming up. Next, I'll take your life!"
Samoyan mocked her with a laugh, "Haha, you're really not humble at all. To be able to injure me means you've put in quite a bit of effort over the years for revenge. That's commendable, but a gap is still a gap!"
With increased speed, Samoyan lunged forward, reaching out to grab Sister Nine by the neck. Sister Nine was taken aback. "His speed has doubled! I can't even see him clearly!"
As Samoyan seized Sister Nine's neck, he pushed her toward a collapsed wall. The back of her head slammed against the wall, and her skull instantly shattered, blood splattering across the broken wall.
Ji Zichen and the others gasped in horror. "Sister Nine!"
Sister Nine's body slumped to the ground. Hearing Ji Zichen's cries, Samoyan surprisingly comforted them, saying, "Don't worry; she's not dead yet."
Lin Chuyu's face turned pale as she exclaimed, "Her head is smashed! How can she still be alive?"
"Cats have nine lives, and mine is no exception, Sister Nine," Samoyan said with a grin.
"That's right! I still have eight lives left!" Sister Nine suddenly appeared in the square, right between Ji Zichen and Samoyan. "Eight lives mean I have eight chances to kill you!"
Upon seeing Sister Nine, Xia Zhou momentarily forgot the dull pain in his arm and exclaimed, "This works too!"
"Eight chances?" Samoyan sneered. "Have you ever thought about why cats have nine lives? It's because their lives are incredibly fragile! The body you are using was given to you by me, so I know your attack methods."
"But you still got hurt by me!" Sister Nine retorted angrily.
Samoyan chuckled, "Yes, and over the years you've put in a lot of effort to enhance this body. But after all, a human is still a human. No matter how hard you try, you can't kill me."
Sister Nine snorted coldly. "Then let’s see the facts!"
"Clawing at the Heart!"
As the shadowy claws came rushing in, Samoyan swiftly dodged within the shadows. Calmly, he remarked, "More random scratching? You can’t..."
Before Samoyan could finish his sentence, he felt a sharp pain on his face. "You!"
Lin Chuyu exclaimed, "Brother Ji, look! There's another Sister Nine!"
While one Sister Nine attacked Samoyan head-on, another appeared behind him and struck simultaneously. In an attempt to evade the attack from behind, Samoyan inadvertently left himself open to the front, where Sister Nine's claws had already left marks on his face.
Fortunately, the scratches were not deep, but they were enough to infuriate Samoyan. With both Sisters Nine attacking together, one of them suddenly laughed and said, "Samoyan, you better be careful; I'm not just playing with you!"
Samoyan glared fiercely, "I almost forgot, you can transform into a cat to attack at will, but to me, that's just a trivial skill!"
With a flap of his wings, he released a cloud of toxic mist from his moth wings. The mist spread suddenly, and Sister Nine found herself too close to Samoyan. In an instant, two of the Sister Nines collapsed, their faces turning pale.
Samoyan laughed arrogantly, "Sister Nine, you have only six lives left."
As soon as his words fell, three Sister Nines appeared above Samoyan. They swooped down simultaneously, their forms completely transforming into cats mid-air. It was as if three large cats were diving toward him. Sister Nine shouted, "Three Cats Catching Mice!"
The three cats simultaneously unsheathed their claws, creating an inescapable attack route. "Wah!" Samoyan's scream echoed from the encircling claws.
Xia Zhou's spirit jolted! "Did we win?"
Ji Zichen replied solemnly, "Not yet!"
As the claw shadows dispersed, Samoyan lay on the ground while the three Sister Nines surrounded him, panting heavily. Samoyan trembled and chuckled, "That hurts! I haven't felt pain in a long time, but Sister Nine, is that all you've got?"
Suddenly, Samoyan's moth wings underwent a strange transformation; three bulges appeared on them. From these bulges emerged three palm-sized black moths that flew out and attached themselves to the faces of the three Sister Nines. In an instant, they were poisoned and collapsed once more.
Xia Zhou gritted her teeth. "Three more lives gone!"
A shadow flickered beside Xia Zhou as one Sister Nine stood next to her. "I still have three lives left. By the way, I thought of a way to kill him, but I need your help."
Xia Zhou smiled at Sister Nine. "Even though I can't use one arm, feel free to ask for my help wherever you need it." She fixed her gaze on the still-lying Samoyan and added, "Even with one arm, I'll make sure he finds his teeth all over the ground!"
Ji Zichen did not share Xia Zhou's impulsiveness. She looked at Sister Nine and said, "Though you have many lives as a cat, using such powerful moves is quite wasteful. You'd better not end up losing your life."
Sister Nine looked serious as she said, "My life doesn't matter. As long as I can kill him and avenge my father, I will die without regrets."
Ji Zichen nodded and asked, "Do you have a plan to kill him?"
Sister Nine replied, "Come closer and listen."
Samoyan, in pain, slowly got up and said, "Even if you break through, you won't be able to do anything to me."
"Black Moth Swarm!"
Seeing over a hundred black moths flying toward them, Ji Zichen shouted, "Quick, dodge!"
Ji Zichen grabbed Lin Chuyu to evade the attack. Although Xia Zhou was injured, he still had his legs and could have dodged on his own. However, Sister Nine thought Xia Zhou would struggle to avoid the swarm, so she pulled him away several yards.
The black moths split into two groups heading toward Xia Zhou and Ji Zichen. Xia Zhou threw the Eight Desolation Needles with a loud bang, killing all the moths that came flying at them. Ji Zichen's Earth Pearl dimmed as she conjured a tall earthen wall. The black moths crashed into the wall and were buried in the ground when it collapsed.
Seeing that the black moths' attack had been thwarted, Ji Zichen let out a sigh of relief. "We made it."
Sister Nine called out from across Ji Zichen, "Did you all understand what I said?"
Ji Zichen and Xia Zhou exchanged glances before responding to Sister Nine, "We understand. We'll act now! We must strike successfully."
