Chapter: Constructing the Diagram
"What's wrong? Don't you believe me?" Management's gaze was intimidating as it lingered on the three who refused to leave.
Jiang the Bearded Man wasn't going to argue with Management over such trivial matters. "That's not what we mean," he replied.
Ji Zichen suddenly interjected, "Uncle Jinglun, if you know something, just tell us. Do you really want to see the people of Western King City open a rift?"
Management sneered, "Don't pretend to be so noble in front of me. Those people want to open a rift; what about you? What is your purpose?"
At that moment, Ji Zichen found himself at a loss for words. Indeed, Management was right; he wasn't that noble. Kiko's goal was to find Divine Dawn. "I'm just here to..."
Management cut him off, saying, "I don't care what your reasons are. As long as you don't pose a threat to us, I won't interfere. I despise you humans the most. The divine race and the Vermilion Bird are at war because of you humans willingly exchanging souls..."
Jiang the Bearded Man could no longer tolerate this and retorted, "How can you generalize like that!"
Management scoffed, "You’re just as foolish as ever. How long do you plan to let yourself be deceived by humanity? You're just like your father—believing whatever others say!"
Hearing his father mentioned, Jiang the Bearded Man felt a surge of emotions but remained expressionless, as if his dignity had been stripped away. "Why bring up my father?"
Management coldly replied, "What? Your father eloped with an ordinary woman and did such things, and I can't mention it? He abandoned you for an ordinary woman, forsaking both you and your mother, discarding his identity as a professional for his own desires..."
Jiang the Bearded Man could no longer hold back his anger. He erupted, "You have no right to insult my father! He will come back! He will definitely return!"
Management laughed coldly. "Angry now? You should have been angry long ago. You should have gone out to bring him back and face judgment!"
In a fit of rage, Jiang the Bearded Man clenched his fist and struck at Management with tremendous force. Management's body swayed slightly as Jiang's punch passed through the space where Management had been standing, hitting the Ginkgo Tree behind him.
The entire trunk of the Ginkgo Tree shook violently, and ginkgo fruits fell from its branches with a clattering sound.
Ji Zichen had never seen Ginger Beard resort to violence, and she was surprised by the strength he displayed.
Lin Chuyu was startled, and Zhang Tang was taken aback as well. Ji Zichen frowned coldly, while Management mocked, "Always resorting to violence; truly, like father, like son."
Ginger Beard spat out a warning through clenched teeth, "Shut up! If you mention my father again, I'll kill you."
His fist struck the tree trunk with force. With his back turned to Ji Zichen, she could sense his silhouette was unusually desolate and forlorn.
Ginger Beard trembled, seemingly filled with a mix of anger and shock over his father's actions. Yet no matter what his father had done, he would always be his father. Ginger Beard murmured in a daze, "Although my father left us for a woman, he is still the one who understands the teachings best. I don't know why he did it, but I... but I..."
Management's voice was cold and flat as he replied, "Your father brought that woman here to pry information from me. He wanted to enter Defensive Works to obtain Divine Tears to save her. How precious are Divine Tears? How could they be used to save a mere mortal? That woman suffered from a strange illness; I sympathized with her, but life and death are fated. I couldn't help her."
"Divine Tears?" Ji Zichen's heart sank at the mention. "Could it be that the ruins are indeed within Defensive Works?"
Management continued, "And now you too are trying to pry information from me on behalf of humanity. You really are..."
Before Management could finish, Ginger Beard suddenly said, "Let's go."
He never faced them directly and simply walked away.
Management snorted coldly, "Go ahead; all of you get lost. This is not a place for you."
---
Zhu Qi, Jiang Chun, Mo Cang, and Ling Xuan found themselves in a dense forest.
The wind whispered softly like gentle murmurs; if one didn't pay close attention, it would be impossible to hear. The sound of birds flapping their wings as they landed on branches or the rustle of dry leaves falling to the ground sounded crisper than anything Ling Xuan had heard in other forests before.
The other three also heard the sounds belonging to nature, but they did not feel as deeply as Ling Xuan did.
Zhu Qi held the vessel used for collecting Wraiths in his hands, gazing deeply into its hollow center. A faint red light emanated from within, and Zhu Qi seemed to hear the sounds of Wraiths stirring inside, as if the Purgatory Souls had revealed their intentions. For Zhu Qi, he enjoyed listening to these sounds.
These sounds gave Zhu Qi a sense of control, as if he could dictate the fate of the Divine Race. At the same time, he looked at the eyes of the Divine Race Undead, which held great contempt and a desire to open a rift.
Although these Divine Soldiers were dead, they still yearned to fight again, just as they had in life. Zhu Qi quietly observed the Purgatory Souls struggling within the vessel.
"Divine Race soldiers, how invincible you once were. But now, look who holds your fate," Zhu Qi whispered to the Purgatory Souls inside.
Suddenly, a thin beam of light splashed out from the vessel, as if it were a rebellion from the Purgatory Souls. Zhu Qi blinked and smiled lightly. "What can you do if you are unwilling? Once you're in this vessel, there’s no escaping." Although Zhu Qi did not know which Divine Soldier this light belonged to, he still mocked it.
"Come on, try it out, Zhu Qi. What good does it do to mock those Purgatory Souls?" Jiang Chun shot him a glance, reminding him.
Zhu Qi glanced at Jiang Chun and then smiled. So far, everything was going according to plan. He casually touched the outer surface of the vessel as if it were a heater; it was somewhat warm—this was the temperature of the Purgatory Souls.
Zhu Qi chuckled. "Jiang Chun, don’t you like to take things slow? Why rush now? Don’t you know that angering these Purgatory Souls makes them want to escape even more? This will make it easier to open a rift."
Whether or not they angered the Purgatory Souls would yield similar results; Jiang Chun certainly understood this. "Only you enjoy such things. Hurry up," Jiang Chun replied.
Zhu Qi did not delay any further. He gestured for Jiang Chun and Mo Cang to take their positions. Holding the vessel in his hands, Jiang Chun and Mo Cang effectively became his assistants. The three of them formed a triangle as Zhu Qi glanced at Ling Xuan. She stepped back several paces and waved her hand at the soldiers nearby.
The soldiers also retreated—one group responsible for protecting the three of them while another kept watch over their surroundings.
At this moment, Zhu Qi said to Ling Xuan, "Keep an eye out. If anyone approaches within three paces of us, don’t let them get close. If we are interrupted, it would waste this vessel; every one we collect counts."
Though Zhu Qi's words urged her to be vigilant, his underlying reproach was quite evident. Ling Xuan chose not to argue with him at that moment but still retorted quietly, "Just don’t mess up."
Zhu Qi smiled lightly, "I hope I won't miss."
Zhu Qi turned to Jiang Chun and Mo Cang, saying, "Keep a close eye on the condition of the crack; we can't let it fully open."
Jiang Chun, feeling quite impatient, replied, "Zhu Qi! Stop with the nonsense. Even though you're holding the cauldron, I'm not here to follow your orders. Are you going to make a move or not? If not, let me handle it."
Zhu Qi chuckled. This Zhuque Chenjing truly was a remarkable place; it could make someone as slow-tempered as Jiang Chun seem anxious.
Zhu Qi closed his eyes. Within him, he could sense an unprecedented surge of powerful energy, as if he were drawing Soul Energy from the cauldron that awakened a part of his body.
It was something he had never been aware of before, and the sensation felt wonderful. With his eyes still shut, Zhu Qi asked, "Do you feel it?"
Mo Cang nodded. "The aura in this crack is so pure."
At that moment, a red triangular Boundary Wall formed within three feet of the three of them.
Jiang Chun said, "I'm ready."
Mo Cang added, "When you go in, don't wander too far; I can't pull you back."
Then a red fissure opened within the Boundary Wall. The faint light from the cauldron surged toward it but was suppressed by Zhu Qi's secret technique. Jiang Chun's Spirit passed through the crack and entered a place he had never set foot in before.
Ling Xuan watched from outside, her gaze drawn to the crack as if it were an endless abyss.
After a while, the Boundary Wall gradually faded away, and the faint light in the cauldron slowly disappeared as if it had been completely consumed.
The three of them opened their eyes at that moment. Zhu Qi asked, "Did you see clearly?"
Jiang Chun nodded, "I see clearly now; the interior is very stable."
Wraith had been consumed, and Zhu Qi discarded the tripod onto the ground. Zhu Qi said, "I've noted the location."
Yu Ren returned to the camp, where Zhu Qi sketched a construction diagram on paper. Zhu Qi continued, "We can notify the Western King to bring the magical artifacts. When the rift opens, we won't have to exert ourselves to control it. It would be best to inform the Western King to send some people over as well."
This construction diagram simply aimed to maximize the opening of the rift. The advantage of maximizing it was that it would allow more soldiers to pass through. The more soldiers that could enter, the greater their chances of seizing the magical artifacts. The purpose of bringing in the artifacts was to forcibly materialize the rift, much like a city gate.
However, it wouldn't be as large as a city gate; at most, it could be considered half the size of one, but that was already the maximum limit.
"Alright, our task is complete. Now, I think it's best to deal with any unrelated individuals here before the magical artifacts arrive," Zhu Qi suggested to Ling Xuan and Elder after finishing the diagram.
Elder agreed, "If we know where they are hiding, we can wipe them out in one fell swoop."
Ling Xuan said, "I'll send someone out to investigate right away."
Elder added, "Find some quick-witted individuals; we don't want to startle them."
Ling Xuan replied, "But we need to know where the snakes are before we can startle them. It might take some time to locate them."
Elder remarked, "Last time they retreated like this; I feel something is off."
Ling Xuan responded, "I have that feeling too. It seems like they were just testing us."
