Chapter 179: Defeating the Arbitrator
The sounds of the clash between Canglin and the Arbitrator reached Ji Zichen and the Great Palace King. They exchanged glances, and Ji Zichen said, "They've started fighting."
The Great Palace King nodded. Ji Zichen's gaze remained fixed on the Gravel Demon, who met Ji Zichen's eyes and said, "What are we waiting for? Let's make our move."
Ji Zichen and the Great Palace King shared a knowing look; Ji Zichen understood that it was time to get serious. With a sudden intensity, Ji Zichen's eyes widened as intricate patterns appeared on his body. The Gravel Demon raised an eyebrow, unable to discern anything unusual about the patterns on Ji Zichen, but the Great Palace King looked surprised and thought, "Is that the Primal Emblem?"
Ji Zichen unleashed the power of the Demon-Slaying Sword, striking towards the Gravel Demon. The Gravel Demon sensed the overwhelming force contained within the sword. With a swift motion, he grasped at the air, summoning a black sword that shimmered with toxic mist. As Ji Zichen's Demon-Slaying Sword approached him, the Gravel Demon planted his feet firmly and suddenly sneered, "Trying to play tricks?"
With a flick of his wrist, the Gravel Demon clashed his black sword against Ji Zichen's Demon-Slaying Sword. Ji Zichen felt an eerie chill emanating from his weapon. Moments later, he noticed that the toxic mist was spreading over his sword. Alarmed, he exclaimed, "This mist seems alive!"
Ji Zichen quickly withdrew his Demon-Slaying Sword and retreated two steps back to join the Great Palace King. Seeing Ji Zichen's hand tremble slightly—not from fear but from the influence of the chilling energy—the Great Palace King placed a reassuring hand on Ji Zichen's shoulder. His hands radiated warmth like a blazing sun, dispelling the cold energy surrounding Ji Zichen.
The Great Palace King cautioned Ji Zichen, "That black mist may look like poison fog, but it's actually Nine Nether Yin Qi. When weapons collide, don't linger for too long."
Ji Zichen nodded in understanding.
The Great Palace King kept a vigilant eye on the Gravel Demon, remaining silent as he contemplated their strategy.
Meanwhile, Canglin and the Arbitrator were locked in a battle that could only be described as frigid and oppressive. The Arbitrator wielded no weapon but unleashed a chilling energy from both palms—far more effective than any weapon. Every time Canglin approached him, he felt an overwhelming coldness.
Though others couldn't see it, Canglin could perceive crystalline particles within the dark energy; they resembled mist to the naked eye but were difficult to quantify in number.
Canglin wielded a Purple Jade Vase that emitted gusts of wind energy, dispersing the floating crystals several feet away. The Arbitrator advanced relentlessly, pushing forward with palms enveloped in toxic mist. Canglin raised his Purple Jade Vase defensively as a series of creaking sounds echoed—like bones trembling.
However, this wasn't due to broken bones; rather, it was a result of their immense force colliding like two titans. The Purple Jade Vase quivered slightly as Canglin exclaimed in astonishment, "What an overwhelming energy!"
The Arbitrator let out a low growl, "Is this all you can handle?"
The ground beneath Canglin cracked, and as it did, he felt himself sinking. Blood spilled from his mouth as the earth collapsed, forming a pit several meters deep. Canglin was pressed down by the Arbitrator, who stood above him, looking down into the pit with a sinister grin. "You won't die unjustly here," he sneered.
The Arbitrator raised his palms toward Canglin in the pit. The pit was deep and narrow, leaving no room for Canglin to evade whatever might come from those hands.
With a flick of his wrists, the Arbitrator called out, "That Kaguya!" A black crescent moon emerged from his palms, its color shifting from light to dark. The Arbitrator's hands turned purple from the cold emanating from the Black Moon, indicating the overwhelming power of this attack. With a swift motion, he sent the Black Moon hurtling toward Canglin.
As the Black Moon approached, the ground in the pit trembled violently, followed by the earth beneath the Arbitrator's feet shaking as well. Canglin felt a surge of wind and roared, "Wall of Journey!"
The Arbitrator's face turned pale as a curtain appeared in the pit, displaying scenes from his past. He saw his beloved wife, pregnant and walking with him in the garden of the Doomed Court. Canglin's voice echoed, "This is your memory. If you forcefully break through this curtain, you will lose it forever!"
The Arbitrator was unsure of its truth, but this was his most cherished memory. In his hesitation, the curtain reflected the Black Moon back at him. Shocked, he exclaimed, "What are you doing?!"
The Arbitrator quickly retracted his hands, causing the Black Moon to vanish. "How do you know this...?" he asked in disbelief.
At that moment, Canglin leaped out of the pit and declared proudly, "I am Kai Zhou Shen! I know everyone's past in this world. You killed your pregnant wife in your quest for power and revenge."
Taking advantage of the Arbitrator's turmoil, Canglin unleashed a powerful gust of wind to attack him. If the wind struck the Arbitrator, it would surely obliterate him. Although he could have summoned a shield to block it, seeing his beloved wife had left him so flustered that he forgot about using his abilities. The Arbitrator was like an ant on a hot pan, unable to stay still.
Within the Boundary Wall's confines—about seven zhang wide—the space for movement was rapidly diminishing under the relentless wind. The Arbitrator felt a chill run down his spine; he had thought he could defeat Canglin within this space but never anticipated such a move from him.
Seeing that the Arbitrator had nowhere left to retreat, Canglin opened his eyes wide and directed a fierce gust toward him. With no other option left, the Arbitrator dispelled the Boundary Wall. Once it was gone, he found himself in a larger space where he could evade the wind. However, as he tried to dodge, he stepped on a stone and twisted his ankle, collapsing onto the ground.
Canglin instantly leaped in front of him and pointed two fingers at the center of his forehead.
The Arbitrator shivered all over; his soul felt like it was leaving him. Yet it returned when he realized he could still breathe. Confused and wary, he looked at Canglin and asked, "Why don't you kill me?"
Canglin's eyes reflected sympathy as he replied, "I know your nature isn't evil; it's just that your desire for revenge has taken control of you. If you sincerely repent now, there is still time."
Suddenly, the Arbitrator let out a cold laugh. "Repentance! It's too late for that!"
The hand of the Arbitrator, carrying a chilling aura, struck towards Canglin. Canglin had already pressed two fingers against the Arbitrator's forehead; this was a death wish. Seeing that the Arbitrator showed no signs of repentance, Canglin twisted his fingers with force, causing blood to pour from the Arbitrator's seven orifices as he fell.
The voice of the Great Palace King was low, as he was whispering to Ji Zichen. Ji Zichen nodded while listening, and when the Great Palace King stopped speaking, Ji Zichen's eyes gleamed with excitement as he said, "This is a good plan!"
The Gravel Demon had noticed their sneaky actions but did not intervene, confident in his own abilities. He snorted coldly and lowered his voice, saying, "Do you think whispering will allow you to win against me?"
Ji Zichen did not respond; instead, he swung the Demon-Slaying Sword down without hesitation. The Gravel Demon raised his black sword in response, but Ji Zichen's momentum did not falter or waver. It seemed he had forgotten that his attack would pose no threat to the Gravel Demon.
Seeing Ji Zichen's reckless approach with the Demon-Slaying Sword, the Gravel Demon felt a slight shock. He knew Ji Zichen was no fool; so why would he repeat such a foolish tactic? He clearly understood that if his sword clashed with the black sword, it would leave him cold all over. Why then did he attack like this? The Gravel Demon could not fathom the reason.
Thus, he could only attribute it to Ji Zichen's stubborn nature. The Gravel Demon laughed and said, "Your obstinate style won't work on me."
The black energy from the Gravel Demon's sword spread over the Demon-Slaying Sword. With a fierce glare and a loud shout, the Gravel Demon unleashed a surge of dark energy from his palm. At that moment, instead of being frightened, Ji Zichen laughed. His smile nearly terrified the Gravel Demon because Ji Zichen should not be smiling; a defeated foe laughing in a critical moment could only mean trouble for him.
It was time for Ji Zichen to strike back.
Ji Zichen's counterattack had arrived.
With fury blazing in his eyes, Ji Zichen roared, "It's over!"
Suddenly, golden light erupted from the Demon-Slaying Sword as their energies clashed. The Gravel Demon's dark energy was instantly consumed by the golden light, and his body was sent crashing through the Boundary Wall.
The Gravel Demon collided with a hill below, causing cracks to appear on its surface. The withered tree atop the hill could no longer withstand the impact and collapsed. Though the Gravel Demon remained standing, he could not rise again. He spat out a mouthful of blood, and as this blood left his mouth...
The Boundary Wall vanished in an instant with a whoosh.
At that moment, the most shocked person was not the Gravel Demon but Canglin, for he had never imagined that Ji Zichen could severely injure the Gravel Demon.
Though shocked, the Gravel Demon had to accept this reality and exclaimed in horror, "You...!"
Gravel Demon was still haunted by the aftermath of the battle. His eyes appeared slightly vacant due to the severe injuries he had sustained. He couldn't comprehend what had just happened and gritted his teeth, saying, "How could you possibly hit me? This is impossible."
Ji Zichen retracted the Demon-Slaying Sword, her gaze fixed on Gravel Demon's right hand, which hung limply at his thigh. "Look at your palm," she said.
Gravel Demon glanced down and saw a formation mark etched into his palm. "Crimson Twilight Ninefold Formation Eye!" he exclaimed in shock.
Ji Zichen explained, "Before my Demon-Slaying Sword struck you, Great Palace King placed the Crimson Twilight Ninefold Formation Eye on my sword. I forgot to mention that this is no ordinary longsword; my Demon-Slaying Sword can conjure fire dragons to harm, and it can also allow the Crimson Twilight Ninefold Formation to strike you during an attack."
Gravel Demon's expression changed dramatically. Anger flickered in his eyes but vanished just as quickly. Suddenly, he laughed, fixing his gaze on Ji Zichen. "How unpredictable life is! Even a young brat like you can defeat me. Since I have lost, I have nothing more to say. Am I to return to that dark place of the Nine Hells once again?"
Great Palace King looked at him with pain in his eyes. "You can come back with me to the Great Palace Kingdom..."
Gravel Demon replied bitterly, "Return? How could I possibly show my face there again?"
His gaze remained fixed on the Crimson Twilight Ninefold Formation Eye on his palm. Turning to Great Palace King, he said, "I apologize for causing you trouble this time!"
Suddenly, Gravel Demon raised his hand with the Crimson Twilight Ninefold Formation Eye and struck it against his own forehead.
Great Palace King gasped, "No!"
In an instant, Gravel Demon's body shone brightly as dozens of light beams erupted from him. His body exploded into dust and scattered into the air.
