Chapter 175: Evacuation Point
After swallowing the unknown pill, Two Seats' body began to swell uncontrollably. Her face twisted in agony as she struggled, and suddenly her body turned bright red, resembling a glowing firefly. Xia Lian shouted sharply, "Get away from her! She's about to self-destruct!"
Ji Zichen, hearing Xia Lian's warning, asked, "How did you get here, Xia Lian?"
Ji Zichen felt nauseated by the sight of Xia Lian's translucent, crimson body. Just as she was about to leave, it felt as if her feet were glued to the ground; she couldn't move. Ji Zichen exclaimed, "What... what is happening!"
Seeing Ji Zichen frozen in place, Xia Lian quickly dashed up the hill. Ji Zichen tried with all her might to lift her foot but found her shoe stuck in a wet, sticky substance. Not knowing what it was, she looked at Xia Lian, whose face turned pale. "This is Silkworm Saliva!"
As the name suggests, Silkworm Saliva is a thick secretion used by silkworms to capture prey, designed to prevent escape. It was clear that Two Seats had laid this trap in advance.
With a fierce expression, Two Seats said, "Xia Lian, you’re here too. Good! Today, even you, the traitor, will die!" As Two Seats' body became increasingly transparent and moved toward them with outstretched arms, seemingly trying to embrace them tightly, Xia Lian shouted, "There's no time! Quickly create a rift!"
Ji Zichen pressed her palm against Xia Lian's, and together they opened a rift. Just as the rift opened wide enough for Two Seats to charge at them, Ji Zichen and Xia Lian pulled it wider. Two Seats' body surged into the rift as Xia Lian cried out again, "Close the rift!"
They quickly withdrew their hands, and the rift shrank rapidly. Just as it became as small as a crack in a door, a tremendous sound erupted from within. The noise only lasted for half a moment before abruptly stopping because the rift had completely closed.
At that moment, an explosive shockwave burst forth from the rift. The wave spilled out through the narrow opening and knocked Xia Lian back against Hill Base. Ji Zichen was also blown away and crashed into an old tree three yards away. The force of the explosion was even stronger than that of Silkworm Saliva; it overwhelmed Ji Zichen's body and sent her flying.
Ji Zichen collided hard with the tree trunk and thought she was done for. However, she wasn't; it felt as if someone had struck her back with tremendous force. Though her back throbbed painfully, she suffered no internal injuries because the stickiness of Silkworm Saliva had cushioned some of the impact, allowing her to escape disaster.
Two Seats disintegrated into nothingness; such an explosion likely left no trace behind. Xia Lian was thrown against Hill Base by the shockwave while Ji Zichen hurried down the hill. Xia Lian lay several yards away from Hill Base, seemingly unconscious. Ji Zichen rushed over and cradled her in her arms, repeatedly calling her name. After a moment, Xia Lian slowly opened her eyes but winced in pain. "My head... it hurts so much..."
Seeing Xia Lian regain consciousness relieved Ji Zichen. "You're fine; it'll stop hurting soon. You were just knocked around by the shockwave."
Xia Lian found herself lying in Ji Zichen's arms, her ears turning red. She shyly said, "Help me up."
Ji Zichen assisted Xia Lian to her feet, not noticing the change in her expression, as there were still some things he hadn't fully understood. He asked, "It's strange, why did Two Seats self-destruct?"
Xia Lian frowned and replied, "Two Seats must have eaten Soul-Eating Bamboo."
"Soul-Eating Bamboo?" Ji Zichen had never even heard of it.
Xia Lian maintained a serious expression as she explained, "Soul-Eating Bamboo is a special bamboo cultivated by the Arbitrator. No one knows how to grow it. All I know is that eating Soul-Eating Bamboo can bring someone back to life, but one has to endure the pain of the bamboo splinters cutting through their body."
Ji Zichen felt a chill run down his spine upon hearing this. "What an incredible Soul-Eating Bamboo."
With the death of Two Seats, the members of Qiu Xia Sect were thrown into chaos without a leader. At that moment, those from the Cult had no one left to fight against and began to flee in all directions. In no time, the soldiers had taken control of the hilltop, and cheers of joy erupted from Fang Xingsi's side.
At this point, Xia Lian felt her headache easing. She smiled lightly at Ji Zichen and said, "You’ve become a hero again."
Ji Zichen chuckled bitterly. "If it weren't for you, I would probably be in a terrible situation right now. But why did you come?"
Xia Lian's cheeks flushed like powdered rouge, but she couldn't admit that she came out of concern for Ji Zichen. She straightened her expression and said, "I’m not delicate like those Female Medics; staying back would bore me to death."
Ji Zichen laughed heartily; this was indeed Xia Lian's character. He said, "Now that we've secured this hilltop, we can launch a pincer attack on Fierce Death Valley."
Fang Xingsi led his troops to the hilltop and appeared particularly pleased. "Well done! You really took this place!"
Ji Zichen responded to Fang Xingsi with a smile, unaware of the dangers Kiko had faced. Kiko said, "Now it's up to you here."
Fang Xingsi replied, "Although we've taken this breach, the battle is not over yet. It will take some time to fully penetrate Fierce Death Valley."
Kiko nodded, knowing this all too well. "It will end, as long as we persevere, this battle will conclude soon."
With that, Kiko looked down at the ground and noticed some white spots. He said to Fang Xingsi, "Look at these spots; they are Silkworm Saliva. If you get stuck in this Silkworm Saliva, you won't be able to move an inch. Find some people to bring soil and cover it up."
Fang Xingsi bent down to examine the Silkworm Saliva. "Is this stuff really that powerful?" He picked up a twig and touched the Silkworm Saliva, but the twig seemed to take root there; no matter how hard Fang Xingsi tried, he couldn't pull it out.
The breach at Hill Base was surrounded by lush green trees. Kiko glanced at it and said, "I'll leave this to you."
Fang Xingsi nodded and waved his hand, signaling the soldiers to bring soil to cover the Silkworm Saliva. Ji Zichen and Xia Lian left the breach hill. This battle had dragged on for a long time, and Kiko had exhausted too much energy. All he wanted now was to find a bed and sleep, but with the fighting still raging around him, he couldn't afford to slack off while others were still working.
Suddenly, Kiko thought of Lin Chuyu. He realized he hadn't seen her for quite a while. Although their separation time wasn't up yet, he asked Xia Lian, "Have you seen Lin Chuyu in Qingyang City?"
Xia Lian replied, "No, I came here with Chief Flying Wolf and the others. They went to meet Prince Huixin while I came here to take a look."
---
At that moment, Lin Chuyu was still within Zhuque Chenjing, where the battle was fierce. She watched as the Vermilion Bird continued to perish; her body felt as if it were shackled by heavy chains, unable to move. Yet she struggled to rise. More and more Serpent Bat Dragons appeared around her; looking up into the distance, she saw numerous rifts opening in the sky from which Serpent Bat Dragons kept emerging.
"It's over!" Li Tang exclaimed in shock. "The vanguard of the divine race has entered Zhuque Chenjing. They've opened rifts for reinforcements; we can't hold them off any longer."
At that moment, a burst of flames struck the chest of a Vermilion Bird, which struggled in the air for a few moments before plummeting like a willow catkin. Li Tang's face turned ashen; if she were in good health, she would have rushed into battle without hesitation, even willing to die in combat. But now, she lacked the strength to fly, let alone confront the enemy.
From a distance, the sound of a bell rang out. Li Tang asked, "Do you remember how to get to the Vermilion Bird Corridor?"
Lin Chuyu replied, "I remember. What are we going there for?"
With a wistful gaze, Li Tang said, "Did you hear that bell? It's the signal to retreat."
Lin Chuyu understood that she couldn't change the situation, but at least she could take Li Tang to the evacuation point. Transforming into her Vermilion Bird Form, Lin Chuyu led Li Tang toward safety. The sky was filled with Vermilion Birds and Serpent Bat Dragons as Lin Chuyu dodged and maneuvered through the chaos. Suddenly, something whizzed past Lin Chuyu's head, grazing her ear and causing blood to drip onto Li Tang's face.
Li Tang remarked, "Somewhat... it might be a broken spearhead."
Lin Chuyu nodded in understanding and asked, "What about the Vermilion Birds left behind?"
Li Tang replied, "Many will perish in this battle, but I believe the remaining Vermilion Birds will catch up."
Lin Chuyu said, "I wonder how Xiang Bi is doing."
Li Tang reassured her, "There are multiple evacuation points here. Don't worry; Xiang Bi will leave from another point if she’s still alive."
Lin Chuyu focused on flying forward, completely disregarding the brutal battle surrounding them.
As Li Tang witnessed more Vermilion Birds falling in battle, tears streamed down her cheeks. The sky gradually darkened, seeming to herald an ominous sign.
Raindrops fell steadily, as if responding to his tears. The rain began to pour down violently, and Lin Chuyu's wings became heavy with water. In the distance, flashes of lightning illuminated the sky, accompanied by the rumble of thunder; it was not a magical artifact, but true lightning and thunder.
The howling wind seemed to mourn for the fallen Vermilion Bird. The fierce gusts battered everything around, even the towering stone peaks trembled incessantly. If the heavens truly had a conscience, how could the divine beings dare to attack Zhuque Chenjing?
The rain fell with ferocity, mercilessly pounding against the stone peaks.
Upon reaching her destination, Lin Chuyu began to descend, finally landing atop the stone peak. The house remained hidden within the forest, untouched by any destruction. Supporting Li Tang, Lin Chuyu said, "Fortunately, nothing happened here."
"This is my secret hideout; no one knows about it, so the house is still intact," Li Tang replied.
"But with that Bell Sound ringing so loudly, what if those divine beings come following it?" Lin Chuyu asked.
"Don't worry. That sound comes from Sparse Pavilion. Only the Vermilion Bird can hear such a Bell Sound; other foreign beings cannot perceive it," Li Tang reassured her.
Lin Chuyu helped Li Tang into the house. "Is Sparse Pavilion our evacuation point?"
"Yes," Li Tang confirmed. "Sparse Pavilion not only serves as a training ground but also provides the fastest escape route from Vermilion Bird Territory."
Seeing that no one else would be coming for now, Lin Chuyu noticed Li Tang's face growing increasingly pale. "You should rest here for a while."
Li Tang shook his head. "No need for that. We must hurry to Sparse Pavilion. If the evacuation point closes, we won't be able to get out."
