Chapter 171 Illusion Space
As Xia Lian and Qin Xiaolan were talking, a sprinkle of starlight appeared from the peak where the Arbitrator was located. Xia Lian looked towards the summit, feeling as if someone was setting off fireworks in the night sky.
Canglin revealed himself and engaged the Arbitrator. Using the Purple Jade Vase, Canglin blew towards the Arbitrator with maximum force, attempting to obliterate him. However, the Arbitrator would not allow Canglin to succeed so easily. He formed a hand seal, and a mask-like disc materialized in front of him. Canglin gasped, "Heart!"
The Great Palace King quickly moved alongside Canglin to evade the attack. The mask-like disc reflected the force of Canglin's blow back at them. After they dodged, the wind uprooted a row of trees behind them, reducing them to countless splinters. At that moment, the Arbitrator seized the opportunity to counterattack, pushing forward with a palm strike while shouting, "Burning Demon Fire!"
A fierce crimson flame shot towards Canglin. He quickly retreated several steps and conjured clouds. With one hand, he pulled the Great Palace King onto the clouds, which suddenly ascended to avoid the Arbitrator's attack. Just as they evaded this strike, the Great Palace King raised his right palm and shouted, "Azure Garment Finger!" A powerful energy emanated from his fingers, taking shape as it flew directly towards the Arbitrator.
The Arbitrator smiled slightly and remarked, "Trivial skills!" He raised one palm and shouted, "Mad Demon Howl!" Suddenly, a cloud of black miasma rose up about ten feet in front of him. Within this miasma emerged seven human heads with elongated necks; these necks appeared to be half a yard long at first glance. The Azure Garment Finger broke three of these heads' long necks.
The remaining four heads extended their necks even further and charged directly at the Great Palace King sitting on the clouds. This time, no one would escape; everyone knew that unless they fought until the last moment, they would not leave easily.
Seeing four heads approaching, Canglin felt a slight shock in his heart. "What long necks!" he thought. They were floating high in the air, at least ten yards above ground. These unknown Demon Beasts could stretch their necks to such lengths! The Great Palace King said, "Let's go down; it's inconvenient to fight in midair."
Canglin nodded and waited for an opportunity. Just as the heads were about to reach the clouds, he swiftly maneuvered the clouds downward. During this dive, Canglin used the Purple Jade Vase to shatter those heads into pieces; once they were destroyed, the miasma dissipated.
As Canglin controlled the clouds to dive downwards, the Arbitrator sensed movement behind him. As he turned his head slightly to look back, he saw a golden glove reaching for his right shoulder. However, Ji Zichen's movements were too slow. The Arbitrator pushed off with his foot and leaped away. But where he had pushed off from left behind a black footprint from which an ethereal hand emerged, reaching for Ji Zichen's ankle.
Ji Zichen never expected that the Arbitrator had such a trick up his sleeve. His reflexes were sharp; as soon as he saw that ghostly hand emerge from the ground, he quickly summoned earth magic to raise a mound of dirt that buried the hand.
The Arbitrator sneered coldly and said, "So they sent you to ambush me? You think it would be so easy for me to let you capture Gravel Demon’s spirit?" Ji Zichen felt defeated; he had missed this hard-won opportunity. Canglin also sighed at this missed chance but did not blame Ji Zichen; he understood that Ji Zichen had done his best.
Suddenly Ji Zichen shouted, "I refuse to believe I can't catch you!"
With a flicker of his Water Buddha Bead, a White Lotus appeared in midair. The White Lotus extended Water Rope towards the Arbitrator's ankle. Upon seeing this, the Arbitrator laughed instead of being surprised. "You think you can catch me like this? You underestimate me."
"Demonic Extreme Fury!" The Arbitrator thrust both palms forward, manifesting bat-like wings that spanned about fifty feet wide. He pushed forward with these wings, wrapping them around the White Lotus before they suddenly exploded, sending it flying apart.
As Demonic Extreme Fury detonated, the ground beneath began to tremble violently; fissures opened up beneath their feet. Ji Zichen activated his lightness skill and began retreating rapidly but found himself cornered at the edge of a cliff with no way out. At that moment, Canglin shouted loudly! "Jump off the cliff!"
Seeing Canglin controlling clouds below him at the cliff's edge, Ji Zichen wasted no time and leaped off with all his strength.
Canglin maneuvered the clouds to catch Ji Zichen as he descended. With a look of frustration on his face, Ji Zichen said, "I'm sorry; I missed my chance."
"Don't lose heart," said the Great Palace King. "With the Gravel Demon inside, pulling him out won't be that simple."
Ji Zichen felt a bit better. He knew that impatience would not help; he had to wait for the right moment with the gloves on. The towering peaks were slightly leaning forward, and they could no longer ascend to the summit. Canglin manipulated the clouds to descend to the ground. At that moment, the Arbitrator laughed maniacally, "Thinking of escaping? Not a chance!"
The Arbitrator had no clouds or wings, yet he leaped down from the peak to the ground without a scratch.
The Arbitrator laughed wildly, "What now? Do you still want to kill me? Even if you join forces, you can't do anything to me!"
Canglin and the others were now close to the ground. Canglin dissipated the clouds, and they floated down. The Great Palace King said, "Let's split up and attack him from three directions. Watch for an opportunity to grab the Gravel Demon."
Ji Zichen nodded and, along with Canglin, leaped to either side of the Arbitrator. The Arbitrator looked at them disdainfully. "Why bother wasting your energy?"
"You've left us no choice!" Canglin shouted as he flew toward the Arbitrator. "Silver Cosmic Sand!" A cloud of yellow sand surged toward the Arbitrator. His eyes narrowed as he looked at the approaching sand, and he paused in surprise. "This isn't ordinary sand!"
Indeed, it was not ordinary sand but rather a mass formed by countless needles. The Arbitrator shouted, "Five Element Mask!" A deep black sphere enveloped him.
As the yellow sand covered the Arbitrator, Canglin shouted, "You are a kind of evil! I will destroy you myself!" Canglin clenched his fists tightly; the yellow sand wrapped around the Arbitrator before exploding in a cloud of dust.
The dust made Ji Zichen squint his eyes into slits. The area was spacious enough that the dust dispersed quickly, but where the Arbitrator had been standing was now a massive black sphere. Countless needles were absorbed into its surface, and a chilling laugh echoed from within. "Surprise! I'm returning this to you!"
The black sphere swelled, and countless needles rebounded off its surface. Ji Zichen was taken aback and quickly conjured a Wind Barrier to protect himself. Canglin used a Purple Jade Vase to blow away the flying needles, while the Great Palace King extended his right hand and calmly said, "Water Barrier." Like Ji Zichen, he created a spherical water shield around himself.
The rebounding needles flew like dazzling sparks but could not harm any of them.
At that moment, Ji Zichen and his companions seemed to be in perfect sync as they attacked the Arbitrator from three directions simultaneously. Ji Zichen unleashed a barrage of lightning and fire dragons, but they were effortlessly neutralized by the Arbitrator. Canglin blew away more needles with his Purple Jade Vase, only for the Arbitrator to send the wind force back at them. After reflecting it back, he mocked them, "Don't you have any other tricks? Repeating your moves is useless against me."
"Don't get too cocky! Take this!" shouted the Great Palace King.
He called out, "Omiya Earth Spirit!"
A transparent earth spirit clad in armor appeared, wielding a red-tasseled spear aimed at the Arbitrator. The Arbitrator dismissed it entirely and conjured a shield-like barrier that deflected the spear's attack back at the earth spirit. The rebounding earth spirit lost control of its momentum and crashed into the Great Palace King, sending him flying ten yards away and causing him to spit blood.
Suddenly gravely injured, the Great Palace King's face turned pale as Canglin rushed over to him. "Are you okay?" Blood trickled from the corner of his mouth as he gasped for breath, trying to stand up but feeling dizzy before collapsing again. Canglin hurriedly supported him.
"Don't turn back!" The Arbitrator scolded them angrily. "I have warned you repeatedly! I am supreme! None of you can do anything to me—has anyone given up yet?"
At that moment, a group of soldiers surged toward them. Ji Zichen shouted urgently, "Don't come over...!" But before he could finish his warning, he saw the Arbitrator lightly wave his hand. A frenzied black wind swept through like dust, scattering those soldiers away effortlessly. The wind was so powerful that even Ji Zichen struggled to maintain his footing; he stumbled back two steps uncontrollably. In an instant, those soldiers had vanished without a trace.
Ji Zichen's eyes blazed with fury. "Arbitrator! You are despicable!"
The Arbitrator chuckled. " Ji Zichen, you keep coming to trouble me. The only reason you are still alive is because I have given you a chance. Not only do you fail to appreciate it, but you also continue to push your luck. I detest pests like you who don't know when to quit."
The Arbitrator's expression darkened as he glared at Ji Zichen. "No one can challenge my authority! This is the consequence of your arrogance."
Raising two fingers at Ji Zichen, the Arbitrator seemed to have something in mind. Ji Zichen, sensing danger, held his breath and braced himself. The Arbitrator spoke, "Go..." But before he could finish, he vanished.
Ji Zichen was taken aback. "The Arbitrator has disappeared...?"
At that moment, Canglin let out a gasp and spat out a mouthful of blood. Ji Zichen rushed forward, exclaiming, "What happened to you...?"
Canglin, his breath weak, replied, "I transferred the Arbitrator to the Illusion Space. However, with his abilities, he will be back soon. We need to leave now and plan our next move."
Ji Zichen finally understood why the Arbitrator had suddenly vanished, but he also knew it was only temporary. When the Arbitrator reappeared, it would likely be the moment of their final confrontation; he wouldn't let them escape again.
The Great Palace King attempted to rise once more but found his body uncooperative. Ji Zichen stepped forward to support him. Canglin stood as well, though he swayed unsteadily just like the Great Palace King. The Great Palace King asked, "Canglin, when do you think the Arbitrator will return?"
Canglin estimated, "I think it will be four or five hours."
The Great Palace King turned to Ji Zichen and said, "Find a place for me to heal. Since capturing the Spirit God has failed this time, I will have to use the Crimson Twilight Ninefold Formation Eye."
