Chapter 18 - Spirit Immortal Realm
Xia Lian found the reaction of the captured creature quite strange. After a moment of hesitation, Xia Lian asked, "It was locked up and then released, as if it didn't care at all. Chief, why do you want to keep it?"
The Chief murmured, "I am very curious about that Saint King." He stared ahead, biting his lip tightly. "I don't believe that Saint King can foresee the future." The two of them set off from the square. "This way," the Chief led Xia Lian down a path. "We are going to meet Ji Zichen."
Seeing the Chief's urgency, Xia Lian inquired, "In such a hurry?"
The Chief smiled at this moment. "Aren't you eager for him to learn the Sealing Technique? Let's take him to see Kai Zhou Shen right now."
Ji Zichen, Lin Chuyu, and Yu Ren entered the Tribal Chief's Stone House. One wall of the Stone House had flowing water, resembling a Water Wall. Ji Zichen stood before the smooth, mirror-like Water Wall, completely focused on the gently rippling waves. Deep within the Water Wall, a pair of eyes watched the people inside.
These eyes rippled like water patterns. "I know your intentions," they said, gazing at Ji Zichen. "You are that Vortex; you are the savior of the Desolate Central Plain. I can also see your desires within your heart. But now, you must believe in me. If you do not trust me, you will not learn the Sealing Technique."
The others had already knelt on the ground; only Ji Zichen and Lin Chuyu remained standing.
The eyes continued, "Do you wish to see me?" Their gaze appeared expectant.
Ji Zichen stared into those eyes and thought, "Is this Kai Zhou Shen?"
Ji Zichen asked, "See you? Am I not seeing you right now?"
Kai Zhou Shen chuckled. "Of course, you are not seeing me now. Come in; I am waiting for you."
Lin Chuyu was startled by this and exclaimed, "Brother Ji, does he want you to go inside the wall?"
Kai Zhou Shen's gaze vanished into the Water Wall. The Chief stepped forward and said, "This is not a wall; this is the Dream of the Journey."
Ji Zichen looked puzzled. "Dream of the Journey? What is inside?"
The clan leader said, "Everyone sees different things."
She gestured for Ji Zichen to step back; she was about to open the Travel Path dream portal for him to enter. Ji Zichen took a step back and asked, "What should I do?"
The clan leader replied, "You and Xia Lian will go in. Just listen to her instructions."
Lin Chuyu's heart raced, praying silently, "Please, let nothing go wrong."
The clan leader placed one hand against the Water Wall and closed her eyes. It seemed as if she could resonate with the Water Wall. Outside, the sky had turned an ominous black, and the entire room was bathed in a blue glow.
The Water Wall began to swell, and a crack appeared at its center. To Ji Zichen, it looked like a savage mouth.
Ji Zichen thought, "Am I really going to enter such a Gap?" Although he hesitated, he knew he had to go in. He had prepared for the worst. As the Gap widened, beads of sweat formed on the clan leader's forehead; she concentrated all her willpower on the Water Wall. Suddenly, a bright light shot out from the Gap.
The intense light initially blinded him, but gradually it dimmed. Ji Zichen looked astonished, but Xia Lian spoke up, "Let's go in."
Just as Ji Zichen took a step forward, Lin Chuyu anxiously called out his name, "Brother Ji!"
Ji Zichen smiled at her and said, "It's fine; I'll be back soon."
Ji Zichen entered the Gap with Xia Lian. Although there was strong light emanating from the Gap, inside it was pitch dark—completely devoid of light. He knew Xia Lian was right behind him and asked, "It's so dark; how do we move?"
Xia Lian was just an arm's length away and replied, "Follow your instincts."
As they moved forward for a while, Ji Zichen seemed to see a strange light source in the darkness. At first, it appeared as a small white dot, but as they moved closer, it grew larger…
The nearer they got to the light source, the heavier Ji Zichen's breathing became. His body started to sway unsteadily. Xia Lian supported him, allowing him to push forward with effort.
Looking out towards the light source, Ji Zichen could see the blurred shadows of trees, indicating that they were nearing an exit. Suddenly, a few barks echoed from outside, and judging by the sound, the dog did not seem to have a pleasant temperament.
Once Ji Zichen fully stepped out of the Gap, he found himself in a lush Mountain Valley. The barks he had heard earlier made him think it was just a vicious dog, but to his surprise, what stood before him was not a dog at all, but a creature that resembled a bizarre hybrid. This monster was as large as a horse.
It had curved horns like those of a bull and was covered in scales that resembled fish scales. The creature's body was slender, yet its limbs appeared strong. It had four legs, each with four fingers tipped with sharp claws. Its hind legs were slightly shorter than its front legs, giving it an odd appearance.
However, Ji Zichen had no doubt about its speed and agility.
Two long antennae resembling whips stood upright on the creature's head. Its face was elongated like that of a horse, with long sharp teeth in its mouth and eyes that glared hungrily at Ji Zichen.
Sitting atop the creature was a man dressed in a seven-colored robe and black gloves, holding a whip that glimmered with silver light.
This man's chest was broader than his shoulders, and his robust figure made him stand out in Ji Zichen's eyes.
"I am the messenger sent by Kai Zhou Shen," he said, his gaze burning fiercely. "It is your honor to enter the Spirit Immortal Realm. Now come with me to meet Kai Zhou Shen."
As soon as the messenger finished speaking, Ji Zichen felt darkness envelop him and fainted.
Ji Zichen had no idea how long he had been unconscious. When he opened his eyes, he felt invigorated rather than fatigued. He could clearly remember the dream he had while sleeping—a warm and happy scene of playing with his master Bifan. He recalled every detail vividly.
"This place is strange; it allows one to remember dreams so clearly. But is this Dream of the Journey or some Spirit Immortal Realm?" Ji Zichen wondered aloud.
He sat up and saw Xia Lian's familiar face, though she did not seem very pleased. "What’s wrong?" he asked.
Xia Lian replied angrily, "That messenger is truly despicable! He always knocks people out without warning. The last time I came here, I woke up right where you were."
"Maybe he wants to keep this place a secret," Ji Zichen suggested. "As long as they mean no harm, that's what matters."
Ji Zichen got up from the ground, and Xia Lian said, "Take it easy, you've been asleep for a while."
Ji Zichen exclaimed, "I was asleep for a while!"
Xia Lian replied, "Yes, it seems to be the rule around here."
Ji Zichen looked around and asked, "Where did that messenger go?"
Xia Lian said, "Just wait; he will come over."
Ji Zichen inquired, "Can I wander around a bit?"
Xia Lian smiled and said, "Wander? You can if you want, but I’ll tell you in advance that you won't be able to leave this place."
Ji Zichen stood up and gazed at the surrounding forest. It looked just like any other forest he had seen before, yet he felt there was something within it that he couldn't quite see.
He walked toward the edge of the forest, now about twelve paces away from Xia Lian. As Ji Zichen took a step forward, he saw rows of trees in the forest suddenly fall down, the ground cracking open. The entire surface seemed to sink. Startled, Ji Zichen quickly stepped back, but strangely enough, when he retreated a few steps, the forest appeared unchanged, as if the fallen trees were merely a figment of his imagination.
Ji Zichen said in confusion, "What is going on?"
