Chapter 88: A Deadly Flaw
As Yuxuan's longsword clashed with Two Seats' Thunderclaw, she immediately felt a slight numbness in her hand. Suddenly, a claw-shaped bolt of lightning descended, startling Yuxuan. She quickly discarded the longsword, which was struck and shattered into two pieces.
Two Seats chuckled, "Oh dear, how can you not even hold onto your sword? How are you going to test me like this?"
Yuxuan's face turned pale with anger. "It's just showing off with a magical weapon, what's so impressive about that!"
Two Seats smiled lightly. "If you have the ability, feel free to use it. I'm not stopping you. Your reaction is quite good; you're the first person to evade my attack in such a short time. It's rare to sense danger and dodge it so quickly."
Yuxuan bit her lip and glared at Two Seats, refusing to respond.
Two Seats continued, "If you want to avoid disaster, you'd better step aside obediently."
Shen Bifan said worriedly, "Brother Zichen, what should we do?"
Ji Zichen coldly replied, "There's nothing to do but kill her. If we kill her, perhaps Lin Chuyu's soul won't reject her body anymore."
Two Seats laughed lightly. "Child, don't get it wrong. I'm not here alone this time; there are more than just me that you want to kill. You have no idea how much effort I've put into reviving the Evil God. It's truly laughable that someone like you thinks they can kill me."
Ji Zichen smirked confidently. "Is that so?"
Gripping the Demon-Slaying Sword tightly, Ji Zichen charged at Two Seats. Upon seeing Ji Zichen's approach, Two Seats frowned slightly. "Oh? You're much faster than that girl from earlier. You seem to have some skill; no wonder they rely on you. But you're still no match for me."
Two Seats reached out with Thunderclaw towards Ji Zichen. Ji Zichen turned the Demon-Slaying Sword to meet Thunderclaw head-on. From their earlier sparring session, Ji Zichen knew that as long as the Demon-Slaying Sword collided with Thunderclaw, the claw-shaped lightning would descend. Sure enough, the claw-shaped lightning began to form in the air and was heading towards the Demon-Slaying Sword. However, Ji Zichen was also a wielder of lightning; how could she fear this claw-shaped lightning?
Just as the claw-shaped lightning was about to strike the Demon-Slaying Sword, Ji Zichen's Thunder Buddha Bead dimmed slightly, and a bolt of Furnace Thunder—stronger than the claw-shaped lightning—suddenly tore through the void and struck the claw-shaped lightning, dissipating it in an instant.
Two Seats was taken aback, quickly withdrawing Thunderclaw from Demon-Slaying Sword and retreating several paces. In his heart, he wondered, "What kind of artifact is this? How can it be stronger than my lightning?"
He put away his disdainful gaze and finally looked at Ji Zichen properly. Now that Two Seats regarded his opponent seriously, it seemed he was somewhat wary of Ji Zichen's lightning. He said, "This is a matter between our Hall of Malevolence and the Holy City. You don't need to stir up trouble here."
Ji Zichen laughed heartily. "You said no one can dodge your attacks; now I am the second."
Two Seats realized that Ji Zichen was trying to provoke her, but she wasn't falling for it. A smile appeared on her face, yet her tone remained heavy. "You have some interesting points, but don't misunderstand; I'm not afraid of you."
Her words seemed accommodating, but her feet shifted slightly as she aimed to corner Ji Zichen into an unavoidable dead end. This showed just how arrogant Two Seats was; even though Ji Zichen's lightning was a notch above hers, she still wanted to engage in a fierce battle.
Although Ji Zichen maintained eye contact with Two Seats, he noticed her subtle foot movements out of the corner of his eye. Understanding her intentions, he stood firm like a pillar, unyielding. He smiled and said, "Since you're not afraid, then I must see just how capable you are."
"Wait!"
Everyone was taken aback and turned toward the voice.
The newcomer was Three Seats, who approached slowly with a black veil covering his face, pretending to be composed. "There’s no need for Two Seats to take action against someone who offends the might of the Hall of Malevolence. I can handle this myself."
At first, Two Seats was stunned, then she smiled. "I was just getting into the fun; don’t ruin my mood."
Seeing that the other party dismissed him entirely, Ji Zichen's expression darkened. His eyes gleamed with murderous intent; no one could joke around with him.
Three Seats, intending to take control of the situation, noticed the killing intent radiating from Ji Zichen. Instead of retracting his words, he asked Two Seats, "Do you know who he is?"
Two Seats glanced at Ji Zichen and joked, "Could he be your lover?"
This comment fell flat; no one in attendance found it amusing. The atmosphere turned awkward as Two Seats felt embarrassed by the lack of response.
Three Seats seemed to truly recognize Ji Zichen. She knew that if Two Seats were to make a move, it would be a matter of life and death. Three Seats said, "You can see clearly now; he is wearing the Five Elements Pearl."
Two Seats shifted her piercing gaze to Ji Zichen's Five Elements Pearl, stunned. "Is this really the Five Elements Pearl?"
Meeting Two Seats' gaze, Ji Zichen replied, "Are you still interested now?"
If it was indeed the Five Elements Pearl, it would be troublesome. Two Seats had heard of the Five Elements Pearl, and she was greatly astonished, unable to believe that the person before her was wearing it. In an instant, she found herself speechless.
But after a moment, Two Seats asked, "Are you Ji Zichen from The Divine Alliance Under the Covenant?"
At that moment, Two Seats's voice was soft and melodious, soothing to the heart. Ji Zichen never expected such words could come from the mouth of this Fat Woman.
Looking at Two Seats, Ji Zichen confirmed, "I am indeed Ji Zichen." She glanced at the bright moon above, seemingly checking how much time was left.
Upon hearing Ji Zichen's admission, Two Seats, with a tone as cold as ice, said, "So what? Your Five Elements Pearl may be powerful, but tonight you are in the wrong place."
With a calm smile, Ji Zichen replied, "Is that so?"
Without a sound, Two Seats moved her fingers slightly as if warming them up, like a snake slithering out of its hidden lair. With a flick of her fingers, she transformed into a ghostly shadow resembling Shen Bifan, closing in on him in an instant. Her hand reached out towards Shen Bifan, intending to capture him to threaten Ji Zichen.
In response, Ji Zichen moved swiftly; the Demon-Slaying Sword struck down towards Two Seats's wrist. To discern Two Seats' intentions and angles of attack in such a short time was indeed surprising.
A tremor ran through Two Seats's barrel-like waist, revealing her unease. What shocked her was that Ji Zichen could see through her thoughts just as they solidified. As the Demon-Slaying Sword came down, naturally, Two Seats did not want her wrist severed by it. She retracted her hand and shifted her stance to feint an attack while avoiding direct confrontation with Ji Zichen.
However, she did not move far from Shen Bifan. This maneuver aimed to maintain control and disrupt the enemy's rhythm, making it difficult for Ji Zichen to guess whether her true intention was to capture her or to go after Shen Bifan. Such cunning was truly frightening.
Indeed, Two Seats had disturbed Ji Zichen's focus. A heaviness settled in Ji Zichen's heart; her opponent had not unleashed any thunderous attacks yet. Now closer to Shen Bifan, she hesitated to strike out of fear of harming him. The two engaged in a fierce exchange of techniques.
Ji Zichen repeatedly tried to draw Two Seats away from Shen Bifan, but Two Seats was not fooled; it seemed determined to cling to Shen Bifan like a parasite.
Seeing that Two Seats was not deceived, Ji Zichen had no choice but to take risks. Suddenly, Two Seats felt a flash before their eyes as Ji Zichen dashed in, positioning himself a little over ten feet to the right of Shen Bifan. The Demon-Slaying Sword in Ji Zichen's hand flickered uncertainly, appearing as if it would stab forward or retract. Two Seats could not grasp Ji Zichen's intentions at all. While Two Seats' Thunderclaw relied on agile and unpredictable maneuvers, Ji Zichen's seemingly heavy and forceful Demon-Slaying Sword outperformed Thunderclaw in terms of agility.
Ji Zichen's Demon-Slaying Sword grew increasingly powerful, like a hammer driving a nail. Two Seats' hands began to feel numb from the impact. With a startled cry, Two Seats retreated, only to collide with a pillar in the corridor, losing balance and tumbling toward the edge.
This corridor hung precariously in mid-air; if one fell, there would be no chance of survival. Watching from the side, Three Seats let out a sharp cry and floated up like a feather, striking at Ji Zichen with her sword, shedding her earlier timidity. Despite the ruthlessness of those in the Hall of Malevolence, it seemed that she and Two Seats shared a deep bond and would not allow Two Seats to fall to their death.
As Ji Zichen saw the sword coming, he instinctively pulled Shen Bifan back. Three Seats immediately attempted to pull Two Seats back as well, but at that moment, Ji Zichen unleashed a hidden Thunder Pearl, releasing a bolt of Furnace Thunder. The timing of Ji Zichen's attack was impeccable; if Three Seats insisted on saving Two Seats, then both would be struck by the lightning. Three Seats was taken aback by the sudden thunderbolt.
Instinct for self-preservation kicked in for Three Seats as she quickly withdrew her hand. Two Seats let out a horrified scream as they fell from the corridor's railing with an anguished cry.
The heavy thud of Two Seats hitting the ground echoed up from below. Enraged, Three Seats shouted, "I will tear you apart!"
Ji Zichen pushed Shen Bifan closer to Yuxuan and thought to himself, "Now is the time to deal with her while she is flustered!"
Three Seats' sword trembled as it transformed into two swords, which then split into four sword shadows aimed at Ji Zichen's forehead, shoulders, and vital points below his abdomen.
Ji Zichen did not retreat either; he advanced with his sword drawn, their energies colliding with a light sound.
Both were forced back half a step simultaneously.
Three Seats sneered coldly as the four sword shadows morphed into eight and struck again.
In her fury and desperation, Three Seats fought recklessly as if they were both destined for mutual destruction.
Yuxuan supported Shen Bifan nearby and gasped in horror upon witnessing Ji Zichen's perilous situation.
Ji Zichen danced with the sword, attempting to deflect the strike from Three Seats. Just as Kiko was about to launch his counterattack, darkness suddenly enveloped his vision. He gasped in shock, "My eyes... I can't see!"
Three Seats lunged forward with his sword aimed at Ji Zichen. Although Kiko couldn't see, he could hear the whoosh of the blade slicing through the air. He quickly sidestepped, but his body collided with a pillar, causing him to stumble and fall to the ground.
Three Seats frowned, puzzled by Kiko's strange behavior, but he saw this as the perfect opportunity. With a fierce shout, he thrust his sword at Ji Zichen, declaring, "Prepare to die!"
Kiko's heart raced as he thought, "This is it! I can't dodge this!"
Seeing Kiko in danger, Yuxuan and Shen Bifan rushed toward Three Seats. Three Seats flicked his sword toward Yuxuan, who leaped back several feet to avoid the attack. Shen Bifan, injured in his right hand, could only raise his palm to strike at Three Seats, but Three Seats coldly laughed and kicked Shen Bifan down to the ground.
With his sword pointed at Ji Zichen, Shen Bifan cried out, "Stop... stop it!"
Three Seats pressed his blade closer to Kiko's chest when suddenly Yukang's voice rang out from inside the door. "Don't kill him! Let me in! Otherwise, I'll destroy this Zhuque!"
Three Seats halted his sword just half an inch from Kiko's heart. He then kicked Kiko in the face, sending him sprawling and leaving him dazed and bleeding.
Three Seats thought to himself, "Revenge can wait; getting into that place is more important." He sheathed his sword and approached the palace door. "Open up; I won't kill anyone if you do."
The palace door creaked open slowly.
