Chapter 86: Siege at the Moon Viewing Palace
The central gate was smashed open by the battering ram, and the Fat Woman and Two Seats charged in first. Two Seats shouted in a voice like a broken gong, "Hmph, anyone who doesn't want to die, get out of my way!"
Most of the injured soldiers from the Holy City lay groaning on the ground, while reinforcements surged in from a distance. A captain shouted, "Don't be afraid! We have the numbers; we can definitely stop them!"
The West Gate also opened, and Three Seats, veiled in black, led the Cult through the breach. Looking towards the other three directions, Three Seats saw flames rising high and couldn't help but smile. "All the gates are open."
Drawing his sword, Three Seats declared, "Attack Moon Viewing Peak!"
At the central gate, the captain of the reinforcements raised his sword and signaled, "Capture the Thief, Capture the King! Take down that Fat Woman!"
Two Seats laughed in a strange tone, "You think you can catch me? A bunch of fools!"
With a swift motion, Two Seats unleashed the Thunderclaw artifact onto both hands. The Thunderclaw resembled claw-shaped gloves that were exceptionally sharp and imbued with lightning. Dozens of reinforcements charged towards Two Seats, who dashed into their midst. With a swing of the Thunderclaw, dozens of claw-shaped bolts of lightning fell from above, instantly obliterating the surrounding soldiers.
Two Seats taunted, "Come on! Anyone not afraid of death, come at me!"
Great Seat watched from the East Gate as claw-shaped lightning flickered at the central gate. He chuckled softly, "They will surely hold onto that central gate until their numbers dwindle even further."
Before Great Seat stood another wave of reinforcements. Gripping the Thunder Serpent Axe, whose handle was entwined with a red-scaled serpent, Great Seat sneered as he saw the soldiers approaching. He spoke to the serpent on his axe's handle, "My dear treasure, tonight you will drink your fill of blood."
One soldier among the reinforcements noticed Great Seat's peculiar axe and felt a chill run down his spine. "That axe looks strange; why is it wrapped with a snake? Brothers, this guy is odd; let's take him down first!"
Several soldiers echoed in agreement, "Let's chop off his head!"
Great Seat swung his axe horizontally at one soldier in front. The soldier raised his spear to block but noticed that Great Seat's grip loosened slightly. The red serpent on the handle hissed and flicked its tongue seductively before detaching itself. The serpent's form expanded into a massive creature several yards wide and lunged at the approaching soldiers.
Great Seat laughed heartily. "You think you can kill me? You're dreaming!"
Three Seats led her group towards Moon Viewing Peak. The soldiers from Holy City recognized her as a woman despite her veiled face and shouted, "Don't let her pass! Even if she's a woman, she can't be spared!"
Three Seats remained unfazed and chuckled lightly. "Killing even women? You truly don't know how to cherish beauty."
With a jingle from her Soul Summoning Bracelet on her right wrist, more than ten monsters with insect-like faces materialized out of thin air. Each had three eyes above a grotesque mouth filled with sharp teeth. These insect-faced monsters appeared behind more than ten soldiers and bit into their necks, drawing out transparent souls from their bodies.
The soul was gradually consumed by the Monster.
As the soul left the body, the soldiers immediately fell to the ground, their eyes vacant. They were not dead, but without their souls, they had become mere lifeless shells.
The remaining soldiers were alarmed. "What kind of artifact is this? It's terrifying! We must escape!"
A cheerful voice emerged from behind the black veil. "Want to escape? It's too late."
With a wave of the hand, Three Seats commanded the Cult and Monster to charge at the soldiers of Holy City. In less than half a stick of incense's time, the ground was littered with corpses. Three Seats laughed heartily, his voice echoing throughout the area. "It seems there are no survivors left."
"Everyone, stay calm!"
"Don't panic!"
"It hurts so much!"
The central gate was in chaos, and the more chaotic it became, the more pleased Two Seats appeared. With an arrogant expression, Two Seats declared, "Kill, kill, kill! Eliminate everyone in our way!"
Great Seat observed that most enemies had been dealt with and boomed, "Listen up! After clearing out this area, charge towards Moon Viewing Peak! Don't linger in battle; these insignificant pests aren't worth our time. A generous reward awaits whoever reaches Moon Viewing Peak first!"
At Moon Viewing Peak, the moonlight illuminated the entire Moon Viewing Pavilion. The main gate was tightly shut. The guards stationed outside saw flames rising from Holy City below and one guard anxiously called out, "Emperor, hurry and escape! The people from Hall of Malevolence have breached the city and are heading towards Moon Viewing Peak!"
Inside, Yukang and Shen Bifan each placed a hand on Lin Chuyu's forehead and chest. A faint blue light emanated from those points on Lin Chuyu's body. Yukang's face was anxious as he said, "No! I can't stop now, no matter what! You two should leave quickly!"
The loyal guards insisted, "No! If the Emperor doesn't leave, we won't leave either!"
Ji Zichen and Yuxuan rushed towards Moon Viewing Peak but found themselves surrounded by Cult members from Hall of Malevolence. They ducked into a dark alleyway. Ji Zichen gritted her teeth in frustration. "How many of them are there?"
After a group of Hall of Malevolence Cult members passed by, Yuxuan said, "We can't go this way anymore. Let's take another route; they won't recognize us there."
Yukang appreciated the guards' loyalty but didn't want them to die for him. He exchanged a glance with Shen Bifan, who nodded in understanding. Shen Bifan removed her hand from Lin Chuyu's chest while Yukang placed his other hand there.
Shen Bifan stepped outside and told the guards, "You all should leave quickly; I will stay behind to take care of the Emperor."
Seeing that Shen Bifan was just a woman, the guards were hesitant to trust her. One guard replied, "Miss, there's no need for you to worry; please go back inside and help the Emperor. No matter what happens, if Hall of Malevolence wants to get in here, they will have to step over our dead bodies."
Great Seat led a thousand Cult members to the foot of Moon Viewing Peak. As he gazed at the peak radiating with bright light, he said, "There's still time; the ceremony hasn't ended yet."
Two Seats arrived shortly after, also looking toward Moon Viewing Peak. "What should we do now? If we go up while the ceremony is still ongoing, will we interrupt it?" he asked.
Hearing the noisy footsteps behind him, Great Seat knew that Three Seats had also arrived. He turned and asked, "Three Seats, what do you think? Should we wait here or go up?"
Three Seats replied leisurely, "Let's go up. Waiting is unnecessary now; they know we've arrived. Look, the ceremony isn't over yet. Regardless of what happens, it will continue until the end."
Great Seat nodded. "Three Seats makes a good point."
With a wave of his hand, Great Seat declared, "Let's head up!"
Ji Zichen and Yuxuan sprinted toward the peak. Kiko glanced back at Yuxuan and said, "You wait for me here; I can go up alone."
Yuxuan smiled wryly. "This situation isn't something you can handle alone. Don't try to convince me otherwise. But once we get up there, what do you plan to do? There are quite a few of them; you don't intend to confront them head-on, do you?"
Ji Zichen brushed aside his concerns. "If it comes to that, then we'll confront them directly. There's no other way."
As they approached a fork in the path, Yuxuan pointed right. "Let's go that way; we'll reach it after we climb this slope."
After turning and climbing over the slope, they finally saw the Moon Viewing Pavilion towering like a mountain before them.
