Chapter 75: Collapse
Ji Zichen was sent flying by the monstrous force, crashing hard onto the stone slab of Power Hall, disoriented and unable to tell up from down.
After a moment, Ji Zichen regained his senses. He looked towards Lin Chuyu and saw the white light gradually fading. Clutching his aching chest, he thought to himself, "So that's why he didn't want to act personally; the backlash from stabbing her would hit him."
As the white mist dissipated, Ji Zichen suddenly stood up, his expression changing dramatically. "Lin Chuyu!"
Lin Chuyu lay quietly on the hall's stone floor, like a beautiful sleeping maiden, delicate and serene.
Ji Zichen couldn't help but cry out in despair as he rushed towards Lin Chuyu. He held her lifeless body tightly in his arms, shouting urgently, "Wake up! Please wake up!"
He called out for a long time, but Lin Chuyu showed no response. Ji Zichen fell silent, overwhelmed with despair.
Seeing this, Jade Pavilion couldn't help but smirk slightly. "Watching you suffer truly brings me joy."
Ji Zichen's already pained expression grew even more bitter. He glared at Jade Pavilion in fury. "You bastard! I'm going to kill you!"
With the Jade Toad Dagger in hand, Ji Zichen lunged at Jade Pavilion. In his rage, he had lost all sense of technique; he only wanted to strike down Jade Pavilion with the simplest of attacks.
However, Ji Zichen's straightforward moves were utterly ineffective against Jade Pavilion.
This time, Jade Pavilion did not dodge or evade. Instead, he reached out and grabbed Ji Zichen's wrist, twisting it as he laughed. "Let go! You don't know how to wield that dagger properly! Just give it back to me."
Ji Zichen knelt sideways on the ground as Jade Pavilion twisted his arm behind him. With a chilling laugh, he said, "Hahaha! If you don't let go, I'll break your arm!"
Like a stubborn rock, Ji Zichen shouted defiantly, "I will never give it to you!"
Jade Pavilion looked at Ji Zichen, who was kneeling before him in a pitiful state, and couldn't help but smirk. "The more impulsive you are, the more you'll fumble!"
With a swift motion, Jade Pavilion pinched the tendons in Ji Zichen's hand, rendering him unable to control his nerves. The Jade Toad Dagger had already been taken from him. Jade Pavilion kicked out with his foot, sending Ji Zichen rolling several yards towards Lin Chuyu.
Holding the Jade Toad Dagger, Jade Pavilion's eyes gleamed with satisfaction. "You really are foolish to try to stir up trouble on my turf! I was initially inclined to let you go, but now I've changed my mind. Now, let me use the power of the Jade Toad Dagger to kill you!"
Jade Pavilion stared intently at the Jade Toad Dagger, as if communicating with it. "Vermilion Bird Spirit, show me your true power!"
Without any unnecessary movements, he swung the Jade Toad Dagger lightly. The stone slab of Power Hall cracked open, debris flying everywhere as the hard stone was torn apart by the force of the Vermilion Bird, heading straight for Ji Zichen.
Above the rapidly approaching crack, a vague silhouette of a soaring Vermilion Bird began to take shape. The sudden attack from the fiery red bird brought an intense burning sensation to Ji Zichen, akin to being scorched by flames. As the shadow of the Vermilion Bird collided with him, he could only cover his face and scream in agony, rolling on the ground.
Ji Zichen quickly scooped up Lin Chuyu and leaped aside. With a loud crash, their original position was transformed into a deep pit of rubble three yards deep.
Seeing the destructive power of the Jade Toad Dagger, Jade Pavilion raised it high and shot a strange light from his eyes. "What a Vermilion Bird Spirit! With just a casual swing, it possesses such immense power. It seems it won't be long before I reclaim my throne!"
Ji Zichen gazed at the deep pit of rubble and thought to himself, "If I don't use the Demon-Slaying Sword, I won't escape. But if I do use it, my eyes will be in serious trouble."
With newfound confidence holding the Jade Toad Dagger, Jade Pavilion pointed at Ji Zichen, a cold glint flashing in his eyes. " Ji Zichen, you have no chance of winning now."
Ji Zichen supported Lin Chuyu with one hand while reaching for the Demon-Slaying Sword on his back with the other. "I have no choice but to fight him!"
"Wait!"
Yuxuan rushed in from outside Power Hall, her brows furrowed tightly. "Brother Wang, what did you promise me? You were supposed to leave Ji Zichen to me!"
Jade Pavilion shot Yuxuan a glare. "Yuxuan, what are you meddling in? Things have changed; I can't let him live as a nuisance!"
Yuxuan's eyes shimmered with tears. "But, Brother Wang...!"
Jade Pavilion snapped impatiently, "Shut up! How dare you disobey me! Step back!"
Yuxuan bit her lip, making a difficult decision in her heart. Suddenly, she stepped forward and grabbed Jade Pavilion by the throat, one hand clutching his wrist. She shouted at Ji Zichen, "You need to leave now!"
Jade Pavilion was furious, completely taken aback by Yuxuan's betrayal. "Yuxuan! What are you doing!"
Ji Zichen drew the Demon-Slaying Sword. "Leave? Are you joking? This is a great opportunity!"
Seeing Jade Pavilion held by Yuxuan, Ji Zichen lunged forward with the Demon-Slaying Sword aimed at him.
Jade Pavilion was so enraged that he could hardly contain himself. "You're betraying me for a man!"
Despite being a woman, Yuxuan had a surprising strength as she held Jade Pavilion's wrist. When Jade Pavilion saw Ji Zichen approaching with the sword, he suddenly tossed the Jade Toad Dagger to his left hand. Catching it effortlessly, he spun around and ruthlessly aimed it at Yuxuan's back.
Realizing that Jade Pavilion intended to stab her, Yuxuan gasped in shock and had no choice but to release him and retreat.
As Yuxuan stepped back, Ji Zichen was already closing in on Jade Pavilion. Jade Pavilion raised his hand and struck out, causing the Jade Toad Dagger to clash violently with the Demon-Slaying Sword.
The two weapons collided fiercely as Jade Pavilion smirked proudly. "Trying to ambush me? What a pity!"
However, his smugness was short-lived as something strange occurred after the clash of the Demon-Slaying Sword and the Jade Toad Dagger.
"Ah!" Jade Pavilion's expression changed dramatically. "What... what is happening?"
The Jade Toad Dagger trembled before the Demon-Slaying Sword as if the Vermilion Bird Spirit within it was filled with fear towards the sword.
Ji Zichen was equally astonished by this strange phenomenon.
As two weapons clashed, the Demon-Slaying Sword remained intact, but the Jade Toad Dagger had developed cracks. From within those cracks burst forth a blinding light, and the anguished cries of the Vermilion Bird Spirit echoed from the dagger. With a shocking sound, the Jade Toad Dagger shattered into two pieces.
The Vermilion Bird Spirit emerged from the broken dagger, letting out a fierce roar!
With that roar, a force radiated outward from the Vermilion Bird Spirit, powerful enough to shake mountains and rivers. This overwhelming energy swept through the hall.
The force instantly broke through the floral decorations in Power Hall, creating several large holes. The pillars of Power Hall collapsed, and the entire hall shook violently, debris raining down. Jade Pavilion, holding half of the Jade Toad Dagger in disbelief, exclaimed, "Ah! My dagger...! My... my...!"
Yuxuan saw the ceiling above Jade Pavilion cracking in circles and shouted in alarm, "Brother Wang! Watch out!"
Jade Pavilion looked up just in time to see a heavy stone weighing over a hundred pounds plummeting from above. With no way to evade it, Jade Pavilion was struck with a loud crash, leaving him utterly crushed.
Seeing Jade Pavilion meet such a grim fate under the falling stone, Yuxuan's face turned pale with shock and disbelief.
The hall continued to sway dangerously as soldiers who had been supporting Shen Bifan fled in panic. Without anyone to help him, Shen Bifan fell to the ground. The impact jolted him awake, and as he regained consciousness, he saw the entire hall teetering on the brink of collapse.
Ji Zichen hoisted Lin Chuyu onto his back and shouted at Shen Bifan, "Bifan! Run!"
The hall rumbled like a river breaching its banks, collapsing in an instant. The scene before them was nothing short of terrifying.
