Chapter 7: Breaking into the City to Save Someone
The room was empty, and there was no noise outside. Ji Zichen felt a wave of self-pity rise within her. "She should get her eyes treated; it's really inconvenient not being able to see at times."
Ji Zichen slowly stood up. "What should I do? Where will Yuxuan take her?"
She recalled the last time she encountered Yuxuan at the Gap and cursed under her breath, "She's truly despicable, taking advantage of my blindness to capture someone. I shouldn't have let her go last time."
Suddenly, Ji Zichen jolted, looking at the painting on the wall. "Wait, where did they escape from just now?"
Inside the room, Er was sleeping when a loud knocking startled him awake. "Coming! Coming! Stop knocking, are you trying to break down the door?"
As soon as Er opened the door a crack, Ji Zichen pushed it wide open and grabbed Er by the collar. Er exclaimed in fright, "Sir! What are you doing?"
Ji Zichen glared fiercely and questioned him, "You’re behind this, aren’t you? Otherwise, how could they have come in so conveniently?"
The sudden accusation left Er bewildered. He stared blankly and said, "Sir, what are you talking about? You need to be clearer."
Without hesitation, Ji Zichen shoved Er into the room and pressed him against the table, her heart racing as she whispered urgently, "Stop pretending to be clueless! It was Yuxuan—Princess Yuxuan—who broke into my room and took Lin Chuyu!"
"Yuxuan... Princess Yuxuan?" Er's heart sank in shock. "I... I don’t know anything..."
The next day, Jade Pavilion stood quietly in Power Hall when a man in his forties entered. He was tall but looked weary. The man said, "Master, I've brought what you asked for."
Jade Pavilion's eyes sparkled with excitement. "I can't wait; show me quickly!"
The man remained still, his gaze filled with both annoyance and concern. "Master, we have a deal—goods for my son. Where is he?"
Jade Pavilion's eyes bore down on him, exuding an oppressive force that made the man feel as if he could hardly breathe. Jade Pavilion's voice thundered, capable of shattering tiles, "Fool! If you want me to release him, first let me authenticate the item!"
Under pressure, the man could only grit his teeth and reply, "Master, you must keep your word!"
He pulled out a long dagger from his robe, its sheath intricately carved with a white Jade Toad. Jade Pavilion eagerly took the dagger into his hands. "This is the Jade Toad Dagger!"
The man confirmed, "Indeed, it's a genuine Jade Toad Dagger."
With a sharp sound, Jade Pavilion drew the Jade Toad Dagger and examined its surface, which bore patterns resembling branches and leaves. "If you stab this Jade Toad Dagger into the Vermilion Bird's body, you can imprison the Vermilion Bird Spirit within it. But whether this is true or not remains uncertain."
Jade Pavilion chuckled, "However, I will soon be able to verify its authenticity!"
The man anxiously interjected, "Master, my son..."
Jade Pavilion smirked. "What are you in such a hurry for? Your son is well-fed and taken care of; I haven't mistreated him. Once I finish my verification, I will release him."
At that moment, Yuxuan entered from outside. "Brother Wang!"
Jade Pavilion shot a sideways glance at Yuxuan. "Yuxuan, why are you back? Didn't you say you wouldn't return without the beads? Have you...?"
Yuxuan smiled and replied, "Of course I wouldn't go back on my word. I've been sending people to search for Ji Zichen. Fortunately, I received news last night and smoothly brought the girl back!"
Jade Pavilion's spirits lifted! "Is that true?"
Yuxuan smiled proudly, "Of course, Brother Wang can see her anytime."
In the Jade Pavilion, a hearty laugh erupted. "Very good, well done."
The voice continued, "Now bring that girl here!"
Yuxuan replied seriously, "Yes."
Having never seen her brother so happy, Yuxuan seized the opportunity to voice her request. Biting her lip with slight apprehension, she said, "Brother Wang, I have captured that girl. So you won't harm Ji Zichen, right? Can I handle Ji Zichen myself?"
Without hesitation, the voice from the Jade Pavilion responded, "Now that we have the pearl, you can deal with her as you wish."
Yuxuan felt a surge of joy and asked, "But Brother Wang, how will you handle that girl?"
The response was curt. "That's none of your concern. You may leave now."

Ji Zichen rode swiftly toward the Suffering Holy Church. "Are they really in Border Holy City? They better not be lying to me; otherwise, I'll go back and take care of him!"
Cracking the whip fiercely against her horse's flank, she urged, "Wait for me; I'll be there soon!"
At Doomed Holy City, two guards stood watch. One of them said, "I heard from Princess Yuxuan that they have captured the girl wearing the Vermilion Bird Pearl."
The other guard looked stunned. "Where did you hear that?"
The guard sneered, "You really are a pig's ear; the news has spread like wildfire in the city."
"Hey!"
Ji Zichen pulled the reins to stop the horse, kicking up a cloud of dust. Seeing Ji Zichen approach with urgency, one of the guards shouted, "Halt! This is Doomed Holy City; no outsiders allowed!"
Ji Zichen dismounted swiftly and said, "This is indeed Doomed Holy City; it seems I haven't taken a wrong turn."
---
Lin Chuyu was escorted into Power Hall by two guards, her hands bound behind her back with ropes.
As she caught sight of Jade Pavilion, Lin Chuyu shouted, "Who are you? Why have you captured me?"
Jade Pavilion smiled lightly and replied, "My apologies, Sister Lin."
Lin Chuyu yelled, "Who are you? What do you want to do with me?"
Jade Pavilion stared at Lin Chuyu with a sinister grin but did not respond. Slowly, Jade Pavilion approached Lin Chuyu and gently lifted her chin, gazing intently at her. "You’re quite charming, aren't you?"
Lin Chuyu's face flushed with anger as she turned her head to break free from Jade Pavilion's grip. Jade Pavilion rubbed their fingers together and withdrew their hand with a smile. "You've got quite the temper."
Just then, a guard rushed in to report, "Master, someone has breached the city. Their magical artifact is too powerful for us to stop; they’ve already reached the outer gates of the inner city."
Upon hearing this, Lin Chuyu's heart leaped with joy. "It's Brother Ji!"
Jade Pavilion smiled calmly, "I knew this person wouldn't give up." Turning to the guard, he instructed, "Go, bring in the person you captured last time."
"Yes," the guard replied and left.
Jade Pavilion looked at Lin Chuyu, whose face was filled with joy, and said, "Miss, don't celebrate too soon; something interesting is about to unfold."
Suddenly, two screams from the guards echoed from outside, and a figure appeared in the doorway. "Lin Chuyu!"
Lin Chuyu turned around sharply at the sound, her eyes lighting up with surprise as she exclaimed, "Brother Ji!"
Jade Pavilion remained calm and polite, welcoming Ji Zichen with a smirk. "You chose not to walk the path before you and instead barged in through hell's gate. You must be Ji Zichen; it's finally nice to meet you."
Ji Zichen snorted coldly, ignoring Jade Pavilion. His gaze was focused on Lin Chuyu, filled with urgency. "Are you okay? Did they do anything to you?"
Lin Chuyu shook her head, tears welling in her eyes. "I'm fine."
Ji Zichen turned his gaze back to Jade Pavilion. "I don't care what schemes you're planning; let her go!"
A mocking expression crossed Jade Pavilion's face as he sneered at Ji Zichen. "It took a lot of effort to capture her. Let her go? What kind of joke is that? There's no way I'm handing her over to you."
Ji Zichen laughed coldly. "Is that so? Then I'll just kill you!"
