Chapter 51: Eye of the Buddha's Head Vortex
"Is the Vermilion Bird dead?" Lin Chuyu trembled as she covered the Vermilion Bird Pearl with her hands. This meant that she would no longer be able to find Divine Dawn, and it equated to a life spent in the pain of being fought over.
"But... that can't be right!" Lin Chuyu exclaimed in shock. "If the Vermilion Bird is dead, how can this pearl still react?"
Shen Shuwen looked at Lin Chuyu with a puzzled expression and explained, "The Vermilion Bird is indeed dead, but its Primordial Dan remains here. Madam Jiang is using the Vermilion Bird Essence to control the Gap, allowing her to move freely. Otherwise, do you think a bunch of mice would have the ability to control the Divine Realm Rift?"
Lin Chuyu murmured in surprise, "The pearl reacts because of the Primordial Dan?" She questioned further, "But I heard the Vermilion Bird's call!"
Shen Shuwen replied, "That was because the spirit of the Vermilion Bird is trapped within the Primordial Dan. Your arrival triggered a resonance."
Although Shen Shuwen's explanation seemed reasonable, Ji Zichen had a different opinion. He voiced his prediction clearly, "You're lying!"
Shen Shuwen fixed his gaze on Ji Zichen and suddenly burst into laughter. "Oh really? What am I afraid of?"
Ji Zichen coldly mocked him, "If what you say is true, then since the Vermilion Bird is already dead, how do you explain the rumors of someone seeing the Vermilion Bird behind Fangwen Mansion? A Vermilion Bird Spirit cannot have feathers like a bird."
Shen Shuwen responded, "The Vermilion Bird is dead; however, it was a male. The one behind Fangwen Mansion is merely a female."
Shen Bifan exclaimed in surprise, "Father, you have two Vermilion Birds—one male and one female!"
Shen Shuwen explained, "At first, I thought there was only one Vermilion Bird. But after seeing the Vermilion Bird Essence, I realized that the Primordial Dan was filled with an unusual sadness. It wasn't a feeling of being captured; it was one of longing. This secret I discovered on my own. Later, when I escaped from here and tried to return, I found myself lost. So I thought to attract another Vermilion Bird to help me find my way. Indeed, there is a connection between male and female Vermilion Birds."
"The male Vermilion Bird Spirit sensed the presence of a female Vermilion Bird behind Fangwen Mansion and forcibly opened the entrance to the Gap so we could enter."
Ji Zichen's expression suddenly brightened as he said, "Then where is the Vermilion Bird Essence? As long as we obtain the Primordial Dan and use the Vermilion Bird Pearl to communicate with the Vermilion Bird Spirit, we can find out the location of the Divine Dawn Ruins."

The Purple Spirit Monkey was a harmless tree-dwelling monkey that loved to eat fruit from trees. It was not particularly large, being about the size of an adult sheepdog. While it posed no threat to an adult, it was quite a formidable creature for a three-year-old child.
Shen Shuwen went on, "At that time, Qianlan took you to the side forest of Twin Cliffs to pick some purple fruits. You entered the territory of the Purple Spirit Monkeys and naturally offended their authority. They wanted to drive you away, and one of them tried to scare Qianlan into leaving their territory. But instead, you stepped forward and broke the neck of the Purple Spirit Monkey with your bare hands!"
Ji Zichen had no recollection of this incident. He replied, "Even so, I only wanted to protect my master."
Shen Shuwen grinned mockingly. "Protect? If a single Purple Spirit Monkey could harm your master, she would have died in the ruins long ago. I see clearly behind you; you're not protecting her but possess an innate heart as venomous as a scorpion! You didn't even notice Qianlan's terrified eyes looking at you."
Although Ji Zichen did not remember this event, he could feel his master's attitude towards him—there was both affection and fear.
Shen Shuwen's gaze shifted to Lin Chuyu's Vermilion Bird Pearl. "I know the Vermilion Bird Pearl can probe into people's hearts. Since you are all in cahoots, your time together hasn't been short. Tell me, have you ever used the Vermilion Bird Pearl to probe his heart? Honestly tell me, in front of you, is this person a good man or a demon?"
Ji Zichen stared intently at her, while Lin Chuyu suddenly felt a bit timid. The Vermilion Bird Pearl had indeed probed Ji Zichen's heart before, and at that time, Lin Chuyu sensed Ji Zichen's joy in slaughter. Her face turned pale as she took several steps back from him.
Though Lin Chuyu said nothing, Shen Shuwen laughed coldly. "See? Even your companion is afraid of you!"
Ji Zichen noticed Lin Chuyu's fear towards him and was puzzled, yet he did not ask. A painful smile that lacked understanding appeared on Ji Zichen's lips as he grabbed the Demon-Slaying Sword and pointed it at Shen Shuwen. "Bifan, you should know what kind of person I am better than anyone."
Shen Bifan urgently explained to Shen Shuwen, "Dad, Brother Zichen is a good person. We've been playing together; I know him best."
Shen Shuwen snorted coldly and did not respond.
Ji Zichen held the sword and pointed it at Shen Shuwen, saying, "Bifan, look at your father's posture now—he sits high and mighty, as if he is above everyone else."
Ji Zichen no longer showed respect towards Shen Shuwen. "As for the past, I don't remember it anymore. Whether it was real or fake doesn't matter at all now. You won't let me touch the ruins; you want to keep the Ruins Wealth for yourself, right? Shen Shuwen, I will ask you one last time: where is the Vermilion Bird Essence?"
Shen Shuwen remained silent.
Ji Zichen's eyes shone with intensity as he stared directly at Shen Shuwen. His voice was unusually slow as he declared in a thunderous tone, "If you think we are demons, then let me show you what a demon truly looks like!"
As soon as he finished speaking, the Vortex on the Demon-Slaying Sword began to spin wildly, engulfing the entire sword in a fierce blaze. Unbelievable to behold, totem patterns emerged on Ji Zichen's face and arms. Two thick black streaks ran down his cheeks to his collarbone, with six slightly rotating Vortexes accentuating each side of his collarbone. From these spinning Vortexes, twelve black streaks extended from both arms to the backs of his hands, where a totem resembling a closed-eyed Buddha Head appeared.
The closed-eyed Buddha Head suddenly opened its eyes, revealing a swirling Vortex within.
As the Eye of the Buddha's Head Vortex opened, the entire totem pattern seemed to come alive.
Lin Chuyu watched in awe as Ji Zichen displayed his imposing and intricate totem patterns. Her eyes widened in shock as she exclaimed, "Brother Ji, you...!"
