Chapter 47: Half-Mouse Monster
The butler said, "At that time, your father did not know we were from the Divine Clan. He thought we were human traffickers and desperately urged the lady to release the person. When she agreed to let him go, your father insisted on staying. After he nodded, she brought him into the estate. Your father lived here for a year, and over time, they fell in love. But such things were forbidden; how could someone from the Divine Clan fall in love with a human?"
"There was a moment when your father discovered our true identity. Shocked, he tried to escape, but he couldn't get away."
Shen Bifan was entranced, unable to help but ask, "What happened next?"
The butler's eyes gleamed with a strange light. "With your father and the lady together, the clan members began to gossip. Seeing your father's desire to leave, her heart shattered. To keep him with her, she had no choice but to make him consume her Primordial Dan, turning him into a member of the Divine Clan. After that, she lost her Primordial Dan. Even though she remained here, she gradually aged and could no longer retain her youthful appearance like us."
"Your father was forced to take the pill. He understood what it meant and lay in bed for a long time without eating anything, letting himself decay. Then one day, a woman appeared in the village—your mother. She went on a rampage here, causing heavy casualties among our clan."
At that moment, a chilling wind swept through as eight Guardians emerged near the estate gate. Their eyes burned with fury. Lin Chuyu sensed their hostile intent and shouted anxiously, "What do you want!"
The butler chuckled ominously. "Sister Lin, why should we waste our breath telling you about past events?"
Lin Chuyu instinctively took three steps back in caution. She turned her head to see Shen Bifan's gaze had become vacant and dazed. Startled, Lin Chuyu stepped forward and shook Shen Bifan. "What’s wrong with you?"
Shen Bifan's eyes were hollow, unresponsive like a wooden doll. Lin Chuyu glared at the butler and shouted angrily, "What have you done to her!"
In an instant, the butler and the eight Guardians transformed into nine massive black mice before Lin Chuyu.
A sense of foreboding surged within her. "You...!"
Two of the black mice suddenly charged at Shen Bifan. Lin Chuyu drew her Vajra and stabbed one of them, killing it instantly. The other mouse wrapped its tail around Shen Bifan and pulled her three yards away into the air. Lin Chuyu felt a chill run down her spine.
The butler cackled maniacally, "We have evolved! We have taken on human habits and feel the thrill of revenge! You humans deserve to die! But this time I don’t want to kill you; we want Shen Bifan! Previously she had no memories; it was boring to seek revenge on someone without memories. Now that she has regained them and knows everything that happened—her mother killed over a hundred of our clan members—it is time for her to pay!"
"Ahahaha!" The butler laughed loudly.
Lin Chuyu panicked and shouted, "It wasn't her who killed your clan members; it was her mother!"
The butler suddenly sneered coldly. "Her mother is half-dead now. Hmph! Don’t worry; we won’t harm her after all these years together. How could we bear to hurt her? The best punishment for her is to turn her into one of us from the Divine Clan!"
The black mouse that had captured Shen Bifan darted to the left into the woods, and Lin Chuyu, holding the Vajra, shouted, "Don't run away!"
Two black mice blocked Lin Chuyu's path. She swung the Vajra and thrust it wildly, but the two mice dodged swiftly. The butler called out, "Don't worry about her, let's hurry!"
The remaining black mice followed the butler's lead and quickly disappeared into the forest, leaving Lin Chuyu behind.
Seeing Shen Bifan being taken by the butler, Lin Chuyu hurried back inside the house, only to find that Ji Zichen was no longer on the bed.
Lin Chuyu had no idea where Ji Zichen had gone, but she feared that if she delayed any longer, Shen Bifan might truly turn into a mouse. Although she was scared, her greater concern was for Shen Bifan's safety. Gritting her teeth, Lin Chuyu returned to the gate and pursued the direction where Yu Ren, the butler, had gone.
After running for half a mile, Lin Chuyu was panting heavily. "Huff... huff..."
She gasped, "Those damn mice are so fast! But they should be heading this way."
Suddenly, Lin Chuyu tripped over a protruding tree root.
Falling to the ground, she breathed heavily. "But is this really the right direction? What if they changed course along the way?"
She thought to herself, "No matter what, I must find Bifan. She is Brother Ji's junior sister; I can't let anything happen to her."
With determination, Lin Chuyu sprang up and continued forward.

Meanwhile, Ji Zichen faced off against Madam Jiang in a pavilion. Ji Zichen shouted angrily, "Is the Vermilion Bird here or not? Answer me!"
His furious voice attracted a group of Guardians who rushed into the pavilion. The captain of the Guardians yelled, "You dare to be disrespectful to the lady!"
Madam Jiang remained calm and subtly waved her hand to signal the Guardians not to act rashly. She said, "Since you are so stubborn and don't believe I don't have the Vermilion Bird, there is a ruin in the back mountain where you can search."
Ji Zichen turned and left the pavilion immediately. He knew that even if the Vermilion Bird were here, it couldn't possibly be in Jiang's residence. If there was indeed a ruin in the back mountain, then it was very likely that the Vermilion Bird would be there.
Arriving at the entrance of the back mountain, he saw a winding path leading up along the slope. He paused for a moment at the entrance when suddenly a purple bird landed on his shoulder. This bird showed no fear of humans; its beak was flat like that of a duck. It was Ji Zichen's first time seeing such a bird with a flat beak. As he moved his shoulder slightly, the Purple Bird flapped its wings and took off into the air.
Ji Zichen cautiously looked around. It was evident that with such a peculiar type of bird, there might be all sorts of strange creatures lurking in the back mountains. After walking for about half an hour, he arrived at a large clearing filled with animal bones. The bones had horns, resembling both sheep and cattle, and were mostly buried by Sand.
As he continued forward, he noticed that the flower buds stretched endlessly like a fence. When Ji Zichen reached a row of these flower bud fences, he saw them blooming vibrantly. However, as he walked past the flower bud fence, the buds closed up again.
Though these flower buds were unusual, Ji Zichen knew they were harmless and posed no threat to him. He pressed on until he spotted a large stone tablet standing tall like a house. Ji Zichen recognized this as the ruins.
Facing the stone tablet, he found no entrance on this side, so it must be on the other side. But as Ji Zichen approached within ten feet of the tablet, two figures emerged from behind it. Initially startled, Ji Zichen's expression quickly shifted to a wry smile.
"This is quite the coincidence; I almost forgot about you two," Ji Zichen remarked.
Fire Lion grunted through his nose, "That man is quite something; you really did come here."
"That man?" Ji Zichen asked. "Who are you referring to?"
Severing Wind Blade unsheathed his weapon and arrogantly declared, "Thanks to you, we brothers ran into that man while searching for you. Now we are no longer human."
Ji Zichen's brow furrowed deeply.
Suddenly, Lifeng transformed into a Half-Mouse Monster.
