July weather can change in an instant! president Jiang officially stepped down and left with his wife for a trip abroad.
Before leaving, during the final public meeting, he announced a personnel decision as the chairman:
1. Jiang Xiaoli was appointed as the General Manager of One Hundred Percent Business Consulting Co., Ltd.
2. Mr. Peter was appointed as the Assistant General Manager of One Hundred Percent Business Consulting Co., Ltd., overseeing the Business Department, Executive Department, and Research Department.
3. The position of Assistant to the Chairman would no longer be established.
Peter, who returned with Jiang Xiaoli, took my original seat to convene a meeting with the department heads. Given the current economic climate, the company decided that department heads would have their salaries reduced by 15%, no longer receive duty allowances, and regular employees would see a 10% salary cut! Quarterly and year-end performance bonuses were canceled!
The Business Department would no longer follow the 8% commission on contract amounts but instead implement a 10% commission based on actual profits, effective immediately!
After making these announcements, Peter didn’t look at anyone or give anyone a chance to voice their opinions before getting up and leaving.
Everyone turned to look at me. I didn’t look at anyone. I was still reeling from the shock of picking them up from the airport, and now this series of changes left me even more bewildered.
I would never forget how Jiang Xiaoli introduced us: “Peter, my fiancé! Hu Ruoyun, my dad’s company’s Marketing Department manager!”
Holding a bouquet of roses felt awkward; I didn’t know whether to hand it over or not!
Peter handed me his suitcase: “Put it in the car, thank you!”
Xiao Zhou politely opened the car door for them and then turned to me: “Xiao Hu, why are you taking so long with that suitcase?”
At Jiang Family Villa, I followed behind them with the suitcase. After they entered, they took the suitcase from me: “You can go back to your work now.”
I was so overwhelmed that I didn’t even realize how I made it back to the office.
Liangzi from the Executive Department found me: “ brother Hu, I’m quitting!”
The young man came from a rural background and had a tough upbringing. After joining the company, he started in execution and was later promoted to management by me. Over the years, he traveled far and wide with his team without ever complaining about the hard work or stress; he managed everything without causing me any trouble.

Next came Zheng Kai, the director of the Research Department. He was my university alumnus, a serious statistics graduate and a stabilizing force in our research team. “Hu Zong, thank you for all these years of working together!”
I forced a smile. "I'm on the same level as everyone else now, so I have neither the authority to retain anyone nor the ability to change things, and I certainly can't make any promises..."
The Human Resources Department quickly brought in a batch of new students.
"Young and energetic! This is our company's future standard for hiring. Those old-timers who rely on their qualifications to coast along will eventually be let go, whether they resign or not!"
Peter always spoke loudly at the "welcome" parties.
Jiang Xiaoli's belly was growing larger, and Peter had effectively become the general manager.
During Jiang Xiaoli's four years studying abroad, president Jiang flew over to see her; we had never met in person.
