"What do we do now?" Li Xue asked, staring at the unmoving traffic in front of them.
Chen Rui glanced at the time and suddenly opened the car door, rushing out.
"No, no, no..." Chen Rui kept looking around frantically, repeating the same word. Suddenly, he spotted a trash can by the roadside and dashed over.
Li Li watched Chen Rui and asked, "What is he trying to do?"
Wang Xinzhuo chuckled, "If you can figure it out, it means your intelligence has increased, but it seems like it hasn't yet."
Chen Rui unfastened the shock Grenade from his waist and tossed it into the trash can. Then he pulled the safety pin from a high-explosive Grenade and threw that in as well before turning back and sprinting toward the convoy.
Once back in the car, he quickly shut the door and fastened his seatbelt. Seeing Li Xue's astonished face made him involuntarily smile.
"What's wrong?" Chen Rui asked with a grin.
Li Xue shook her head. "Nothing."
"Wait for it. After the explosion, as soon as there's a gap in the traffic ahead, we need to slip in immediately! Whether we make it or not depends on you."
Chen Rui pointed at the sea of cars ahead. "I set it for fifteen seconds; now the countdown begins: 3... 2... 1!"
"B!" The high-explosive Grenade detonated, triggering the shock Grenade. The design theory of the shock Grenade was to create a certain impact force on ground units within a specific range. Although there was no massive mushroom cloud from the explosion, the collective impact of several shock Grenades was comparable to that of a building collapsing.
With a tremendous explosion and a wave of vibrations, what little order remained on the street completely unraveled. Everyone tried to get their cars moving, resulting in multiple collisions as the once orderly flow of traffic began to break apart.
"Now! Go!" Chen Rui shouted, pointing at an opening that had appeared ahead.
"Don't yell at me!" Li Li shot him an annoyed glare before quickly releasing the handbrake. She fully lifted her left foot off the clutch and pressed down hard on the accelerator with her right foot. The tires screeched against the pavement as she accelerated through the gap at high speed.
"Very good!" Chen Rui smiled. Li Xue's driving skills were practically at a professional level, though it was hard to say how many tires had been worn out to achieve this.
The vehicles on the street had completely descended into chaos. Even those who couldn't see or feel the massive vibrations and smoke would instinctively tense up, leading to a complete traffic breakdown in the city. Some people might never escape the urban area, but this situation provided convenience for individuals like Chen Rui.
Not everyone had mediocre driving skills; those who were good at driving could actually escape the city faster under these circumstances.

"Turn right at the next intersection, then go straight for two blocks to reach where Peng Hao and the others are," Chen Rui instructed, his fingers gliding over the electronic touchscreen as he navigated for Li Xue.
After several collisions and being hit, Chen Rui's convoy was finally nearing the High Entrance controlled by Peng Hao.
"Peng Hao! Peng Hao?"
Chen Rui switched on the car's radio but could only hear chaotic noises from the other end—car brakes screeching, engines roaring, with most of the background noise generated by vehicles. Chen Rui couldn't help but feel a bit anxious.
"Yes! I'm here!"
"What’s going on over there? We're almost there," Chen Rui hurriedly asked.
"Well... it's probably because of what you did. The crowd is in an uproar. We've started letting people through, or they might have already breached the checkpoint. We can no longer control this entrance. The Vice President's convoy has nearly entered Las Vegas; you should see them in about two minutes. You need to hurry!"
Listening to Peng Hao's complaints, Chen Rui felt a bit helpless. If they hadn't acted that way, they would never have reached this point so quickly. He had anticipated this situation, but he hadn't expected Peng Hao's side to fall so quickly...
"Okay, we should be there in about one or two minutes."
Chen Rui picked up the radio and looked at Li Xue, smiling as he said, "It seems this time, you can really enjoy yourself!"
"Mm..." Li Xue replied noncommittally, but the corners of her mouth lifted slightly.
Soon, Chen Rui's convoy met up with Peng Hao, but the situation was far worse than expected. The streets were filled with cars lined up to enter the highway, and the entrance was basically a long queue.
"What's the situation up ahead?" Chen Rui got out of the car and hurriedly asked Lujie upon seeing him.
"Don't rush; don't drop the notebook," Lujie said, holding the notebook in one hand while his other hand hovered over the keyboard, hesitating to put it down.
"What’s going on?" Chen Rui leaned against the car's engine compartment and asked calmly.
"It's okay. Currently, on Highway 15 near Las Vegas, the congestion heading south has eased somewhat compared to before, while the northbound direction is basically clear! After all, who would stop once they got on the highway?"
Hearing this news, Chen Rui finally breathed a sigh of relief. If the northbound route were completely blocked, then the Vice President would have no choice but to turn back and take a detour via Highway 17. However, that would mean a significant increase in distance by over a thousand kilometers. Therefore, the safest option was to pass through the urban area before Highway 15 completely collapsed.
"They're here!" Peng Hao pointed at four large black SUVs. The four unmarked vehicles were the only convoy entering the city at this time, making them easy to spot.
The convoy turned onto a side road and stopped in front of Chen Rui and the others.
From the four vehicles emerged more than ten young men dressed in black suits, black sunglasses, and black shoes. Their robust physiques and uniform haircuts unmistakably revealed their military identities.
"IB?" Peng Hao couldn't help but chuckle at their attire.
"Are you in charge of this unit?" A leader-like figure approached Chen Rui and asked while sizing him up.
"That would be me," Chen Rui replied with a smile.
"Hmph! How's the traffic?" The Suit Man, towering half a head above Chen Rui, crouched down to match Chen Rui's height, tauntingly smiling.
Chen Rui wasn't angry; he smiled back. "It's fine for now, but I don't know how long that will last. I hope we can set off soon."
"Fill up the tank and leave immediately." The Suit Man lost interest in Chen Rui and spoke coldly.
Chen Rui stopped Peng Hao and said seriously, "Time is of the essence. I think it's better to get through the city first before refueling."
"What are you babbling about? Just do what you're told!" The man adjusted his clothes and got into the car, ignoring Chen Rui further.
With a helpless smile, Chen Rui instructed someone to fuel their vehicle.
Every SUV under Chen Rui's command had two 15-liter emergency fuel cans in the trunk, which would suffice for the time being. Finding a gas station at this hour was nearly impossible.
The entrance heading north was jam-packed. Despite Chen Rui's warnings, the Vice President's convoy entered the highway from the exit. With no choice, Chen Rui followed. The absence of government officials only heightened the panic among others, plunging the scene into greater chaos. Many drivers mimicked Chen Rui's actions and entered from the highway exit, completely blocking the first entrance to Highway 15 heading north.
Watching as more vehicles piled up and traffic slowed to a crawl, Chen Rui couldn't help but frown and took out his walkie-talkie.
"How many entrances does Highway 15 have in the city?"
Lujie's voice sounded somewhat anxious, with a crisp tapping noise as he pressed on the touchscreen. "There are a total of fifteen entrances, with eleven in the main urban area. We entered through South Entrance One, which is on Route 146. There are six main congested entrances ahead; as long as we get past those, we should be fine."
"Let's hope so." Chen Rui sighed. "Connect me to the presidential convoy!"
"Already connected."
"The road conditions ahead are unstable. I suggest we reroute to Highway 15." Chen Rui advised.
"How long will it take to detour?" It was the same person who had provoked Chen Rui earlier.
"It's unclear, but the safety and road conditions should be much better than Highway 15! The traffic here is too heavy right now, and we can't speed up. Continuing on this route could lead to an accident!"
"No way! Taking a detour will take even longer! Time is life right now; the fastest route out of the city is the best option!"
"This detour isn't safe!" Chen Rui's frustration finally bubbled over, and his tone shifted slightly.
"The longer we wait, the less safe it becomes. I'm the commander! I make the decisions!" The call ended abruptly, and Captain did not take Chen Rui's advice.
The convoy drove straight past the intersection with Highway 15, heading north along with the flow of traffic.
Watching the cars that showed no signs of moving, Chen Rui calmly reassured himself, "Maybe I'm just overthinking it."
Suddenly, a sharp brake sent Chen Rui reeling, scattering his previous thoughts like smoke. Despite feeling dizzy, he realized: something had gone wrong!
"Lujie! Open emergency communications for everyone immediately!" Chen Rui ordered urgently. All radios were connected to a public channel, maximizing information sharing.
"What’s happening?" Chen Rui asked hastily.
"Up ahead... there's a traffic jam..." Captain's voice was choked, clearly struggling to accept the sudden reality.
"Lujie! Where are we?" Chen Rui quickly scanned the surrounding buildings; their familiarity sent a chill down his spine. To confirm, he asked Lujie for their location.
"That's right!" Lujie breathed heavily. "Up ahead is the intersection of Highway 59 and Highway 15. We're right at New York, New York!"
Just then, vehicles behind them began to slam on their brakes one after another, completely trapping the convoy on the road.
"Damn it!" Chen Rui slammed his fist against the car window, unbuckled his seatbelt, and shouted, "Everyone get out! Grab your weapons and necessary supplies! Prepare for battle!"
Highway 59 was very close to McAllen International Airport. After entering Highway 59 from Highway 15, they drove straight for a little over two miles, then turned right onto Aryland Parkway, continuing for another mile to reach the Waiting Hall of McAllen International Airport!
Chen Rui saw that his team was already geared up, but the guards showed no signs of movement. He walked over to the Captain's vehicle and knocked on the door. "Hurry up! The car can't move anymore! Can't you see how jammed it is? If we don't leave soon, it will be too late!"
"Do you think you can get away?" The Captain frowned. "This vehicle has been modified to withstand 'that thing's' attacks!"
"Are you just deceiving yourself? What about the Vice President?" Chen Rui aimed his rifle at the Captain's head. Even though there was bulletproof glass separating them, the Captain was still startled.
"My mission is to escort the Vice President, not you. If you don't cooperate, don't blame me," Chen Rui chambered a round and slowly moved his finger toward the trigger.
"Everyone get out, defensive formation!" The Captain shouted. At his command, the 'men in black' moved a slightly overweight man beside him for protection.
"Are we walking now?" The Vice President sighed, his tone filled with despair.
"I'm sorry, we've contacted the White House. They've dispatched a military helicopter nearby; we need to hold out for a while," the Captain said with a slight bow, showing respect to the Vice President.
"Ahhhhhhhhhhh..." A loud scream came from ahead. Chen Rui turned in the direction of the sound and saw a group of people desperately running toward them, followed by some 'disheveled' figures!
"Guys!" Chen Rui swallowed hard. "I think we need to hurry!"
