As Chen Rui stepped out of the exit, he realized he should have listened to that taxi driver's advice. It had only been about fifteen minutes since he and Yuki Chiba entered the Aquarium.
Although it was an exhibition area, each section was quite brief, with very short intervals between them. Most of the exhibits failed to leave a lasting impression, which was why they reached the exit in less than fifteen minutes.
Chen Rui smiled apologetically at Yuki Chiba but didn't say anything. Just as she was about to speak, their phones rang simultaneously. "Sorry, please wait a moment," he said.
"Okay. But you have to wait for me too," Yuki Chiba replied with a sweet smile.
She turned around to answer her call and said, "Yes," followed by, "We're at the Aquarium," and then added, "We're having a great time," before hanging up.
"Was that your dad?" Chen Rui asked.
"Yeah, he's really concerned about me—so much that it's a bit annoying," Yuki Chiba laughed. "You should answer your phone too; don't keep them waiting."
Chen Rui didn't step away; instead, he answered his call right in front of Yuki Chiba.
"Is that so?" Chen Rui said with a smile.
"Are you sure there are only five people?" he asked again.
"Alright, then you hurry up," Chen Rui said as he hung up the phone, smiling at Yuki Chiba. "So, where are we going to play next?"
"Aren't you supposed to be working? I can't just take up your time like this," Yuki Chiba replied, though her unwilling expression betrayed her words.
"My job is to protect you. Just tell me where you want to go," Chen Rui said with a smile, genuinely enjoying the various expressions on her face.
"Then come with me!" Yuki Chiba laughed and ran off, calling back, "Catch up with me! If you do, I'll give you a reward!"
Chen Rui chuckled happily. "That's yours!" He quickly caught up with Yuki Chiba, who pouted in displeasure. "No way, you're cheating! You always do."
Chen Rui could only smile along and follow her lead.
After playing around for a while, Chen Rui weakly asked, "Sister, where's our destination?"
Yuki Chiba hurried over, smiling sheepishly. "Sorry, I got too excited just now. Let's go catch a ride."
That was the most frustrating part for Chen Rui; he had thought they were already on their way to their destination. But he didn't blame Yuki Chiba—firstly, he found it hard to speak up, and secondly, he had been too engrossed in the fun.
Under Yuki Chiba's guidance, the taxi returned to Las Vegas Boulevard and stopped in front of a casino hotel.
"What are you thinking?" Chen Rui asked, sweating profusely. Was she planning to go in and splurge? It seemed like a habit of rich kids.
However, to Chen Rui's surprise, Yuki Chiba didn't lead him to the gambling area but instead opened the door to a double room, which made him even more awkward.
Once inside the room, Yuki Chiba plopped down on the bed, stretching lazily with a look of pure comfort on her face. "Let's rest for a bit. We've been playing for so long; aren't you tired?"
"Ah, luckily I have a strong constitution," Chen Rui said nervously as he sat on the sand, gazing at Yuki Chiba, who was smiling brightly in front of him, unknowingly captivated.
"Well, I'm tired. I don't care; you have to wait until I rest before we start," Yuki Chiba said, performing a few stretching movements that showcased her beautiful figure in front of Chen Rui.
Chen Rui controlled his emotions and said, "Yuki Chiba, although—"
Suddenly, Yuki Chiba's phone rang. After glancing at the caller ID, she hung up and pouted, "Is my dad installing a surveillance system on me? Every time I change locations, he calls."
Chen Rui couldn't help but sweat a little. If people found out he brought his protection target to a hotel room, wouldn't it cause a frenzy when he returned?
"Um," Chen Rui was about to ask about the purpose of their visit. He really didn't want to believe her intentions were—
"I think I've rested enough; shall we get started?" Yuki Chiba asked eagerly.
Chen Rui quickly waved his hand. "I think it's not quite right to start now." After saying that, he wanted to slap himself. If it wasn't right now, did that mean it would be fine later?
"What are you waiting for? It'll be crowded soon," Yuki Chiba urged, glancing at her watch. "Hurry up." She put on a pitiful expression that made it hard to refuse.
Hearing her say "it'll be crowded soon," Chen Rui realized he had misunderstood. While celebrating his relief, he also felt his face flush with embarrassment over his thoughts.
"Alright then, let's go," Chen Rui forced a smile.
The two exited the room and arrived beneath a tall tower. It was then that Chen Rui fully understood what he had misinterpreted.
Las Vegas is the largest gambling city in America. Along the six-mile stretch of Las Vegas Boulevard, there are hundreds of luxurious hotels and casinos filled with countless tourists indulging in extravagance. The northernmost hotel on the boulevard, The Hotel of the Same Temperature, is a budget-friendly casino hotel. However, this hotel is quite unique as it features a five-meter-high tower that allows all guests to ascend for free and enjoy the beautiful night view of Las Vegas.
Chen Rui and Yuki Chiba checked into the Sky Tower Hotel, a well-known high-rise establishment.
What’s even more astonishing is that at the top of this tower lies the highest amusement park in America, featuring extremely thrilling rides that would terrify anyone with a fear of heights!
Upon arriving at the Indoor Observation Deck, Chen Rui pretended not to know what was above. Leaning against the railing with his arms crossed, he smiled and said, "What a beautiful view."
"Stop pretending. Let's go up," Yuki Chiba was not fooled by Chen Rui's act. She grabbed his arm and started pulling him upward. Chen Rui resisted slightly, but Yuki Chiba only pulled harder, dragging him along.
Reluctantly, Chen Rui had no choice but to follow her. Their interaction attracted quite a few onlookers, and those who were perceptive quickly understood the situation between the two, resulting in scattered applause.
Some tourists who enjoyed stirring up trouble shouted, "Hey, beautiful! Yes! Just like that! Be a little tougher on your boyfriend!"
"Come on, man! Show some strength and go have some fun!"
Chen Rui didn't want to pay attention to these people who were just standing around talking nonsense, but Yuki Chiba couldn't ignore them. Noticing her cheeks turning red, Chen Rui quickly picked her up and carried her up the stairs.
Climbing from the Indoor Observation Deck to the First Floor brought them to the Outdoor High-altitude Amusement Park.
Chen Rui gently set Yuki Chiba down after carrying her in a princess hold, only to receive a playful bite from her.
"Are you a vampire or something?" Chen Rui said, half-jokingly annoyed. "Is my blood that tasty?"
"Yours is the best," Yuki Chiba teased back. "If you wanted attention, you could have just done it like that instead of trying so hard to stand out."
"Is it my fault then, big sister?"
"Of course it's your fault. If not you, then who? It's all on you," Yuki Chiba lightly punched Chen Rui's chest, looking like a couple playfully bickering.
"Alright, it's my fault. But look at how many people are here; who knows how long we'll have to wait? Let's just enjoy the scenery," Chen Rui said with a smile, trying to dissuade her.
Ignoring Chen Rui, Yuki Chiba dragged him in front of the Crazy Wheel. However, this ride was different from the usual amusement park attractions; it lifted players high above the ground before starting its operation. Riders would experience a dizzying spin at nearly three hundred meters above ground, an adrenaline rush that ordinary rides couldn't compare to!
Yuki Chiba excitedly recounted, "Rumor has it that for every person who goes up the tower, fifty-five are too scared to even look at the ride. Only forty-one can calmly watch, and just four actually dare to try it."
"I'm definitely not one of those four," Chen Rui wiped the cold sweat from his forehead, trying to maintain a calm demeanor.
With a slight smirk, Yuki Chiba quickly pecked Chen Rui on the lips like a dragonfly touching water. Before he could fully process what had just happened, she resolutely pulled him toward the queue.
As Yuki Chiba had said, most people were merely spectators; very few dared to experience the ride themselves.
Chen Rui and Yuki Chiba soon found themselves in line for the next round. The Crazy Wheel could only accommodate eight people at a time, highlighting either its rarity or sheer madness!
As the safety harnesses clicked into place, Chen Rui noticed Yuki Chiba's face had turned a bit pale. He couldn't help but chuckle, "If you can't handle it, just let the staff know and they’ll let us off."
"Who can't handle it? You think you can mock me? Aren't you getting it backwards?" Yuki Chiba retorted sarcastically.
Chen Rui decided not to press her further. Fortunately, the ride soon began to operate.
"Hopefully it ends quickly," Chen Rui thought as he glanced at Yuki Chiba's unusual expression, feeling a twinge of concern.
"Ahhhhhhh!" As the spinning intensified, the riders' screams rivaled those of guests on a roller coaster.
Wei Er was different from Chen Rui and Yuki Chiba. Chen Rui had found a long-lost sense of exhilaration, while Yuki Chiba was genuinely terrified. The expressions captured in the photos taken by the high-speed camera were strikingly similar, but only those in the know understood that the feelings of these two were completely different.
After it was over, Chen Rui supported the weak-legged Yuki Chiba as they walked to a clearing to rest. Looking at Chiba, who was panting heavily, Chen Rui couldn't help but feel a pang of concern. "You really shouldn't play anymore. You still want to go? Look, is this any better for you?"
"What do you know?" Yuki Chiba shot him a glare. "I just like it! Let's keep going! Now we’re going to play on that seesaw!"
Seeing Yuki Chiba so stubborn, Chen Rui didn't forcefully stop her. It seemed her endurance was still quite good; she had returned to her normal state in such a short time.
The seesaw Yuki Chiba referred to was the highest in the world, officially named "Sky Scream."
Four tourists per boat would plunge down from the top of the tower, seemingly about to merge with the vast night sky. Just when they thought they had safely escaped, the track beneath them suddenly seemed to lose control, plunging down sharply like a seesaw, as if they were about to fall uncontrollably.
This attraction was one that many watched but few dared to try, and soon it was their turn. Before boarding, Chen Rui wanted to ask one more time, but seeing Yuki Chiba frowning told him it would be pointless. With a helpless sigh, he boarded the boat.
The experience of this ride was very similar to that of a Tower of Terror roller coaster, both designed to give you a final feeling of despair.
As the boat suddenly dropped, a terrified Yuki Chiba let out an ear-piercing scream filled with utter despair, causing those watching to turn pale with fright.
When they got off, Yuki Chiba quickly adjusted her state again and grabbed Chen Rui's hand, rushing toward the next attraction.
