Takachiho ShrineLocated in a secluded corner of the Takachiho region in Miyazaki Prefecture, Kyushu, far away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Surrounded by lush ancient trees and a path paved with green stones, every brick and every leaf of the shrine seems to contain ancient wisdom and power.
This is the holy place dedicated to the Sun Goddess, Amaterasu Omikami, and also where Hijou Feiye's mother currently serves as a "shrine maiden."
Hijou Feiye is a young woman who has just entered university. Despite having a deep connection to this land, she does not have much interest in becoming a clergy member. Instead, she chose to study a major she likes at the university, rather than attending the National University of Chinese Studies or the Imperial Academy University as her mother had hoped.
Feiye has a strong interest in modern medicine and traditional Chinese medicine, especially specialized knowledge related to wound treatment and pharmaceutical preparation. In this regard, she shares a similar sense of mission with her mother - both are dedicated to saving others from suffering.
In Japan, there are multiple paths to becoming a Shinto priest. The most straightforward way is to enroll in a university related to Shintoism, such as the Shintoism Culture Department at Kokugakuin University or the Shintoism Studies program at the Faculty of Letters at the Imperial Academy University.
After completing the relevant professional training and graduating, one usually obtains the qualification of "primary rank" clergy; and after completing the necessary internship, one can be granted the status of "clear rank" clergy.
In addition to the university education path, there are other options available. Every year, Kokugakuin University and Imperial Academy University collaborate with some shrines to hold a "clergy training seminar" (clergy development seminar) twice a year, each lasting about a month.
In addition, there are several Shinto priest training schools in Japan that offer two-year training courses. However, these workshops or training courses require a recommendation letter from a Shinto shrine, so it can be relatively difficult to participate in these courses without the help of a Shinto priest.
Furthermore, there is an unconventional method, which is to obtain Shinto priest qualifications through distance education. This is mainly to address emergency situations, such as the need to inherit a family shrine.
Hijou Feiye have a good understanding of these paths, after all, her mother is a clergy member. However, she chose her favorite major for college, which disappointed her mother a little because in her mother's eyes, becoming a clergy member is not only a family tradition but also an honor.
" Feiye, are you really not considering it? After all, this is a profession that has been passed down through generations in our family," mother brought up the issue again during dinner.

One day, Feiye finished class early. A sudden thought prompted her to visit Takachiho Shrine. This shrine was where her mother worked and where the family had been worshipping the sun goddess Amaterasu Omikami for generations.
She walked through the gate of the shrine, under the cherry blossom trees on both sides of the stone lanterns. The sunlight filtered through the leaves, creating beautiful beams of light. The air was filled with the scent of moisture and trees, making people feel relaxed and happy.
" Feiye, how did you come here? You didn't say anything in advance," her mother said with a surprised expression as soon as she saw her.
"Mom, you're so busy, I don't want to disturb you. I'll just look around by myself," Feiye responded with a smile.
"Alright, just remember to tell Aunt Fang so she can put your name on today's visitor list, then you can visit freely."
"Okay, Mom."
Feiye Walking along the stone path towards the manager's office, I opened the door and saw Aunt Fang sorting through some documents.
"Aunt Fang, I'm here. Mom asked me to let you know," said Feiye politely.
"Oh, Miss Feiye, long time no see. You're getting more and more beautiful. Are you here to visit or do you have other business?" Aunt Fang put down the documents and asked with a smile.
"Thank you, Aunt Fang. I have some free time today and just wanted to come here for a walk and experience the atmosphere."
"Alright, I'll register your name right away."
After registering, Hijou Feiye began to wander around the shrine. Walking along the shrine's path, Feiye felt a sense of inexplicable tranquility.
She walked past the main hall dedicated to Amaterasu Omikami and arrived at the entrance of a famous cave. This cave has always had an indescribable mysterious atmosphere since ancient times, and it is said to be the hiding place of Amaterasu Omikami.
Today, however, Hijou Feiye felt somewhat unusual, as if the cave was calling out to her.
Inside the cave, there was a strong smell of earth, accompanied by a hint of dampness and mold. The air seemed to carry a mysterious and ancient power. She stood at the mouth of the cave, took a deep breath, and felt a coolness penetrating her bones. Then, she carefully walked into the cave.
The interior of the cave was very spacious, with the rocks on the walls eroded by time, creating an uneven surface. Her footsteps echoed in the cave, and with each step, it felt like she was entering another world.
Hijou Feiye noticed that a small stone tower had collapsed on the ground. It was made up of five or six small stones and looked like it had been accidentally knocked over by something. She walked over and carefully rebuilt the stone tower.
The custom of stacking stone towers has been passed down to this day. It is believed that around the caves and valleys, as long as people stack the stones on the valley into small stone towers and make a wish, the wish can be heard and fulfilled by the Sun Goddess.
After stacking the stone tower, Hijou Feiye immediately noticed that each small stone tower seemed to be telling them their own wishes and stories.
So she also decided to build a stone tower.
She bent down, selected a few stones of suitable shape, and began to stack them. With each stone she placed, she would gently touch and feel their temperature and texture.
"May Amaterasu Omikami shine upon all beings, so that no one is left in the shadows." Hijou Feiye clasped their hands together and silently prayed.
But she didn't notice that, in that instant, a faint light emanated from the stone pagoda.
"Let's go to Taiko Bridge next. The scenery there has always been my favorite." Feiye I thought happily.
As she was about to leave the cave, she suddenly heard a strange noise. Feiye Turning around, she found that something seemed to have fallen in the shrine deep inside the cave.
"What's going on?" she curiously walked in.

In front of the shrine in the cave, many "spirit-inviting trees" are planted, which are the fruits that Amaterasu Omikami holds in her hands during the night music performance. Therefore, wild animals often come here to visit.
Just as Hijou Feiye were about to leave, they felt like something tripped them up. One misstep, and she fell heavily, hitting her head on the rock wall.
She lost consciousness as everything went black before her eyes. Suddenly, a faint golden light appeared at the deep shrine, attached to her body.
When she regained consciousness, the first thing she felt was a headache. Then she noticed that the sun had already set.
Hijou Feiye stood up and looked around. She found herself still in a cave, but it was clearly not the same one as before. The rocks here were much older, giving off a weathered feeling.
"How did this happen? There are usually other visitors here, why hasn't anyone found me?" muttered Hijou Feiye, while touching the bruise on her forehead.
She patted her pocket and realized her phone was missing. She started to worry, but also realized that there was unlikely to be a phone signal here.
"Anyway, let's find the exit first." Feiye She gathered her courage and walked out of the cave.
She slowly stood up, brushed off the dirt from her fall, and began to walk towards the exit. Quietly praying in her heart, hoping that Aunt Fang was still there. After all, she had a class at eight o'clock tomorrow morning.
However, when Hijou Feiye reached the exit, an indescribable sense of unfamiliarity surged up. Although the scenery seemed the same, the feeling was completely different. The air seemed to carry a taste different from modern times, more pure and natural.

The shrine is very old, and it's very quiet nearby with no sound. As she continues to walk towards the exit, not far from the exit, there is a village.
