It was the voice of Deng Yinyin, a sound Xu Nuan had grown quite familiar with.
The three men heard the voice and immediately ran in that direction, their hurried footsteps disturbing the tranquility of the night jungle.
Xu Nuan also stood up. After taking a couple of quick steps, she returned to her backpack, thought for a moment, and pulled out a short knife and a hatchet. She then retrieved a syringe from one of her bags before heading toward the growing commotion.
Skeleton Monkeys, resembling apes.
Before her stood five of these creatures, while Deng Yinyin and Tang Jingshu were silently huddled together. The three men who had rushed in stood beside them, looking at the monsters as if facing a formidable enemy.
The wound on her shoulder throbbed painfully, and memories of the near-death experience from earlier in the day flooded back, bringing waves of fatigue and fear. Just as Xu Nuan was about to warn the others, a voice echoed from above them.
“Skeleton Monkeys possess the agility of primates but have the sharpness of blades; they can slice through human flesh in mere moments. They are one of our masterpieces.”
It was the voice of the System.
The tone was both boastful and chillingly indifferent, making it sound even more eerie in the night.
Gu Ze and the others looked up, scanning for cameras and speakers, while Xu Nuan remained puzzled. What was so special about this Third Batch of Players? Why was the System, which had never given hints before, now repeating itself?
However, reality left no room for Xu Nuan's thoughts. The impatient Deng Yinyin shouted out.
“What’s going on with this Survival Game? Are these Skeleton Monkeys going to eat us?”
No one responded to her; her sharp voice shattered the last remnants of silence in the night. The five Skeleton Monkeys moved at the sound, swiftly advancing as if preparing to pounce on the tightly clustered group of five.
Xu Nuan felt a surge of irritation but still took out her hatchet and began chopping at the surrounding trees. The sound of metal striking wood successfully drew the attention of the Skeleton Monkeys, who slowly shifted their focus to attack Xu Nuan instead.
Deng Yinyin looked at Xu Nuan with dissatisfaction and shouted loudly.
“What are you doing? Hurry up and help us!”
The sound once again caught the attention of the Skeleton Monkeys.
"Stop talking."
"Shut up!"
Gu Ze, who had keenly noticed the characteristics of these Skeleton Monkeys, spoke up.
Xu Nuan also chimed in, her gaze towards Deng Yinyin carrying a hint of coldness. Deng Yinyin shrank back slightly, a look of dissatisfaction and resentment on her face.
Xu Nuan's movements did not pause. When she withdrew her gaze from Deng Yinyin, she inadvertently caught a glimpse of Gu Ze's eyes, which were filled with hidden concern, causing her to momentarily freeze.
In that instant, a Skeleton Monkey lunged forward, but its speed was much slower than the one they encountered during the day. Gu Ze and the others watched Xu Nuan's actions with great tension.
A faint smile appeared at the corner of Xu Nuan's lips as she casually threw her axe in another direction. One of the Skeleton Monkeys was distracted, and in that brief moment of hesitation, Xu Nuan swiftly took out a syringe and plunged it into the Skeleton Monkey with precision. To everyone's astonishment, the creature collapsed to the ground.
Xu Nuan repeated the process, using the remaining two syringes. Soon, only two Skeleton Monkeys remained, looking around nervously while Xu Nuan successfully made her way to the group.
What they had expected to be a thrilling battle turned out to be effortlessly resolved against several seemingly formidable Skeleton Monkeys, leaving everyone momentarily stunned.
"Xu Nuan, you're amazing."
As Tang Jingshu snapped back to reality from her fear and anxiety, her gaze towards Xu Nuan held more sincerity and admiration.
However, this did not benefit Xu Nuan's current situation; her voice remained calm and steady.
"If you encounter them during the day, you must run away; it's very difficult to fight them then. If you meet them at night, just stay quiet for a while and they will leave. Their vision is very weak at night; they rely on sound to find their way, so their movements will naturally be slower."
"That sounds easy enough; it's not that impressive," Deng Yinyin grumbled again but this time lowered her voice, aware that the two Skeleton Monkeys nearby had not yet left.
“Deng Yinyin.”
The usually taciturn Xu Hang finally spoke, his sharp gaze sweeping over Deng Yinyin. She pouted and said nothing further.
“Thank you this time.”
After seeing Deng Yinyin fall silent, Xu Hang turned to Xu Nuan, casually patting Gu Ze on the shoulder.
“But what about the remaining two?”
Xu Nuan narrowed her eyes slightly, glancing thoughtfully at Xu Hang before speaking.
“Just wait quietly for a moment; they will leave.”
To avoid further interaction with the group, Xu Nuan added a quick remark.
“The Muscle Relaxant is already used up, so be patient.”
With that, she ignored everyone else.
