"Xiao Ling, keep trying to call Yang Meng until you get through," An Xiaotian said, looking at the holographic display inside the armor. The distance to Fengta Biotechnology Center was now only seventeen kilometers. 0

"Still no answer, sir," Xiao Ling reported regretfully to An Xiaotian, and the call log showed that he had dialed forty times. Since takeoff, An Xiaotian had been attempting to reconnect with Yang Meng, but she had gone silent after the first call. A sense of unease gnawed at him. Although the armor had an air purification system, his anxious feelings made the interior feel stiflingly hot, prompting him to take deep breaths. 0

"How could this happen?" An Xiaotian muttered, unsure if he was speaking to himself or asking Xiao Ling. "What on earth is going on?" 0

"I can't find any relevant information at the moment. Please remain calm and trust that everything is fine," Xiao Ling reassured him. 0

"Hopefully," An Xiaotian said, glancing at Yang Meng's profile in his contacts. 0

At the same time, Building Three of Fengta Biotechnology Center had been completely engulfed in flames, with traces of laser beams still flickering ominously on the charred ground. In this nearly deserted area, an explosion might have sounded like merely a sonic boom from a passing fighter jet to a driver on the road. 0

However, to the Spirit Corps, that explosion was peculiar. It was accompanied by a series of strange phenomena—a massive laser beam descending from above, a deafening hum like a swarm of bees, and then a meteor streaking across the sky. All of this was witnessed by Miao Chengmin, the Zombie King, who had initially intended to scout for the Spirit Corps siblings. 0

Miao Chengmin could hardly believe that a national secret weapon was hidden in these lush green mountains. As he flew low over the forest, he witnessed the entire process of the Armed Satellite Matrix destroying Building Three. 0

"Satellite Beam?" The blinding light forced Miao Chengmin to halt his flight and veer away. Once the bombardment ceased, he frowned and looked toward where the laser beam had struck. 0

When he was still human, he had watched experimental launches of the country's space strategic weapon—the Satellite Beam—on television. Now, returning to Earth in his decayed form, he was witnessing it firsthand. 0

Could it be another test? 0

With this question in mind, Miao Chengmin slowly descended into the woods and crouched behind a tree to sneak a glance toward the mountaintop. To his surprise, there were buildings up there! Sensing something amiss, he immediately stood up and ran toward the summit. 0

There were indeed floors, yet not a trace of human presence. Miao Chengmin stood behind a railing, surveying the remnants of the structure and its surrounding ruins in disbelief as he took off into the air to confirm whether anyone was actually there. What he sensed and what he believed were worlds apart. 0

On the outer wall of one floor was a "2," which Miao Chengmin assumed indicated Building Two. Every corridor on each level had rows of shattered glass. He gazed around in astonishment until— 0

"Ah?" 0

Miao Chengmin froze. He hadn't counted which floor this was, but before him lay a girl sprawled in a pool of blood, surrounded by five decapitated robots. Miao Chengmin landed on the corridor; those decapitated robots still twitched their fingers as their mechanical fluids mixed with the girl's blood, creating a viscous sheen that swirled around Miao Chengmin's feet like a whirlpool. 0

"Emergency... emergency..." One robot's head continued to emit intermittent alarm sounds weakly. As Miao Chengmin looked down at it, its display screen suddenly went dark as if possessed, completely losing its vitality. 0

"What on earth happened here..." Having seen many people lying in pools of blood before, Miao Chengmin couldn't comprehend why this girl lay here alongside five decapitated robots. He muttered to himself while glancing around; it was eerily quiet except for the low hum of machines operating in various compartments. 0

There truly was no one around. 0

If there was no one here, then why was there a dead girl? 0

With this question lingering in his mind, Miao Chengmin bent down to examine her wounds. Her heart had been pierced; although his current form lacked sensory perception, her injuries clearly indicated that survival was impossible. 0

Seeing her frozen in terror even in death troubled Miao Chengmin deeply. He reached out and gently closed Yang Meng's eyes. Though he knew that after death a person's soul still existed and would ascend to the Divine Realm to continue its consciousness and memories from life, humans in this three-dimensional world would not see it that way—In Yang Meng's family’s eyes, she had completely vanished. 0

Miao Chengmin stood up, contemplating that it would be better for him to leave this place. He was merely passing through, yet he had already pieced together much of what had transpired: the woman who had once crossed paths with him, a subordinate of Ban Sa, had single-handedly destroyed humanity's first space defense line—the Heavenly Eye telescope and its Armed Satellite Matrix. 0

He sensed a sound from above, like a stray bullet heading his way. Miao Chengmin knew someone was coming, and taking to the skies now would surely expose him. However, the flying object in the sky was astonishingly fast; before he could think of a way to hide, a shadow descended from above, crashing down with a loud metallic thud. 0

Miao Chengmin edged to the corridor's edge, peeking out to see the ground below. A red and white armored figure was retracting its mechanical wings, looking bewildered at the ruins of Building Three. 0

He recognized who it was. Quietly, Miao Chengmin retreated into a machine room on this floor. 0

"Why hasn't it connected yet?" An Xiaotian couldn't believe what he was seeing and continued urging Xiao Ling to call Yang Meng. Building Three had become ruins, yet his girlfriend claimed she was still in this seemingly deserted place. 0

An Xiaotian noticed the energy fluctuations detected by the intelligent sensor within the armor and turned to look at Buildings One and Two still standing behind him. 0

"I'm sorry, sir. Madame Yang still isn't answering," Xiao Ling reported from within the armor. "There are strong energy fluctuations on the third floor of Building Two; I believe there may be clues there." 0

"She's okay, right?" An Xiaotian asked Xiao Ling, as if she were his last hope. 0

To An Xiaotian's surprise, Xiao Ling remained silent for the first time in response to his question. The Fierce Eagle armor's mechanical wings unfolded again as it flew toward the third floor of Building Two. An Xiaotian saw her—Yang Meng lying in a pool of blood. 0

"Mengmeng..." 0

The intelligent analysis eye of the armor locked onto Yang Meng. An Xiaotian believed she would be fine; she was still alive. But the parallel indicators in the analysis eye caused the last bit of his rationality to begin crumbling... 0

"Mengmeng?" The armor's head unlocked as An Xiaotian crouched down, gently caressing Yang Meng's already cold cheek. His expression twisted in agony as his lips trembled uncontrollably. "Don't do this; don't scare me... You said you were coming in for overtime, didn't you?" 0

Amidst his sobs, a figure loomed before An Xiaotian. Miao Chengmin felt no need to hide his presence in front of an ally from Earth who shared the same battlefield. 0

"She has been killed," Miao Chengmin quietly stated the fact that An Xiaotian was most unwilling to accept. 0

An Xiaotian suddenly looked up; it turned out that the strong energy fluctuations Xiao Ling mentioned came from the Chaos Crystals within Miao Chengmin's body. Miao Chengmin might have meant well, but he didn't realize that appearing before An Xiaotian felt like confessing guilt. 0

"What did you do to her?" An Xiaotian stood up, consumed by rage as terrifying killing intent filled his eyes. He glared at Miao Chengmin and reached behind him to draw his battle sword. "What did you do to her?!" 0

"It wasn't me! Xiaotian!" Miao Chengmin never expected that An Xiaotian had lost all rationality in his grief. He didn't want any conflict with An Xiaotian and kept retreating. "How could I harm your beloved?" 0

"Ah—" In a fit of rage, An Xiaotian swung his battle sword down from above toward Miao Chengmin! Seeing this, Miao Chengmin immediately raised a Chaos Barrier, but An Xiaotian showed no signs of stopping; after the downward strike came another horizontal slash aimed at Miao Chengmin's midsection. He could only retreat without any counterattack. 0

"What did you do to her? What happened! Ah—" An Xiaotian's battle sword fell like thunder and rain until the final strike pierced directly into Miao Chengmin's chest! But this time, Miao Chengmin made no attempt at defense or evasion; he lowered his arms and allowed An Xiaotian's battle sword to impale him! 0

Miao Chengmin's body was now a rotting flesh protected by Chaos Crystals and did not fear such an attack. He only hoped this would calm An Xiaotian down. An Xiaotian roared as his Thruster ignited again, driving the battle sword that pierced Miao Chengmin forward into the wall behind him, pinning him firmly against it. 0

"Why! Why!" An Xiaotian continued to scream like a madman at Miao Chengmin's withered zombie-like face. Yet Miao Chengmin remained surprisingly calm; he placed his hand on the battle sword that pierced him, and for some reason, the black flames in his eyes softened remarkably. In his view, what was happening now with An Xiaotian bore no difference from losing Ming Juan back then. 0

"Xiaotian, think about who our enemy is," Miao Chengmin said while looking into An Xiaotian's bloodshot eyes. "It's that woman; it's them. This war has never ceased because of what we experienced during the Zombie War; they have always been here, and the war continues unabated. None of us will be survivors." 0

"Stalker..." 0

An Xiaotian murmured, his pupils widening as he looked down at the ground along with his lowered face. He did not pull out the battle sword that was embedded in Miao Chengmin's chest; instead, he stumbled and fell to his knees once more before his deceased lover. 0

Miao Chengmin withdrew her battle sword, standing quietly behind An Xiaotian. At that moment, An Xiaotian had lost all sense of grief; from Miao Chengmin's perspective, he resembled a kneeling statue, revisiting the final moments of the fantasy he and Yang Meng had envisioned about their wedding night. 0
