In Base One, Monet sat in a corner of the room. Wearing round glasses, she was at her desk, folding her wings behind her back and resting her bird legs under the table. She held a pen in her hand, diligently calculating something on the paper.
"Monet, I'm heading to the lab. Make sure to hand over the experimental data to me today," Caesar said, looking at her.
"I will complete it, Master," Monet replied with a smile, turning back to her work.
"That's good to hear."
Caesar opened the door and disappeared down the corridor. Monet leaned over her desk, continuing her tasks.
However, it wasn't long before there was a loud explosion as the door shattered.
"Waiting for five minutes should be enough, right?"
A figure slowly walked into the room, looking at Monet with a smile. "Although I don't want to fight a woman, your skills are quite impressive, President."
"Who are you?"
Monet set down her glasses and looked at the intruder with a slight frown.
"Me?" The figure chuckled. "Listen closely, my name is Elken from Baroque Works r4."
"Baroque Works?"
Monet gradually stood up, gazing intently at Elken. Her expression grew serious as she asked, "How did you get here?"
"President assigned us a mission, so here we are. And my target is you," Elken said with a smile.
"Your target is me?" Monet looked at Elken and gently asked, "Did Ace come too? And your president, oh right, and that giant beast."
"They didn't come," Elken replied, clenching his fist with a grin. "Dealing with you is our responsibility; we don't need them to step in."
"I see," Monet said with a smile. "Then I can relax."
"Is that so? Let's see about that."
As Elken spoke, he suddenly vanished, reappearing beside Monet in an instant, throwing a punch.
Shave.
Elken used Shave to reach Monet's side, channeling all his strength into his fist and striking with a thunderous blow.
Fist Gun.
Faced with this punch, Monet immediately pulled his wings down to shield himself.
Bang.
Elken's fist collided with Monet's wings, which instantly transformed into rows of ice blades, remarkably solid.
But in the next moment, cracks appeared on the ice blades of her wings, spreading across them.
"What immense power." Monet's expression changed; her ice blades were as solid as iron, yet they had been shattered.
For Elken, however, this was trivial.
Three years ago, when he first joined Baroque Works, his strength was already enough to shatter boulders. His punch was slightly weaker than Heckler's straight punch.
During these three years, he had continuously honed his skills, and his strength had steadily increased.
More importantly, he had mastered the Finger Gun from the Six Styles and applied it to his fists, developing the Fist Gun technique.
Just the force of his punches could crush boulders.
Such power could easily shatter steel plates, making it effortless against Monet's wings formed from condensed ice.
"So what if you have great power?"
Monet snorted coldly, and a chilling wind erupted around her as snowflakes danced in the air. Her figure suddenly grew enormous, transforming into a towering snow Ostrich Man standing seven or eight meters tall, soaring through the sky.
With a leap, Elken sprang into the air and closed in on Monet with a powerful punch.
In a swift motion, Monet spun away from Elken's attack and laughed as she evaded him. "Your speed is too slow."
"Come again."
Elken lunged forward again, throwing a punch at Monet.
Bang.
Elken's fist struck Monet's body, piercing through it directly, sending a flurry of snowflakes flying. Yet, Monet remained completely unharmed.
"Useless. I am a Natural Element User," Monet sneered, then closed his body inwards. The snowflakes enveloped Elken's fist as his massive form leaned forward, wings folding in to completely wrap around Elken.
"Die in the cold," Monet said with a smile, as the snow surrounded Elken, quickly encasing him within its icy grasp and beginning to freeze him bit by bit.
But just as a layer of ice began to form on Elken's skin, he revealed a faint smile and said, "You're such an idiot."
"Huh?"
Monet was momentarily stunned. In the next instant, a bright light erupted from within him, and then Monet began to swell slowly before finally exploding.
Boom.
In the next moment, a massive fireball shot up, shockwaves radiating outward. The enormous room shattered, walls blasted away, and the ceiling vanished without a trace.
"Cough cough."
Monet lay amidst the ruins in the distance, his face covered in dust as he coughed and looked out toward the horizon.
"I am a Bomb-Bomb Fruit User; every part of my body can explode."
A shadow emerged from the smoke and approached Monet, smiling as it said, "I never expected you would give me the opportunity to unleash my full potential."
Having possessed the Bomb-Bomb Fruit for three years, he had been developing his powers, which had grown increasingly formidable.
The explosive force he generated had increased tenfold, even twentyfold compared to before.
Standing before Monet, Elken raised his hand, aiming directly at her.
"Snow House."
Seeing this, Monet instantly retreated, flapping her wings as countless snowflakes coalesced into a solid Snow House that shielded her.
The defense of the Snow House was comparable to steel; it was not something that could be easily breached.
However, in the next moment, Elken's right hand pressed against the Snow House, and a tremendous explosion erupted.
Boom.
Flames engulfed the Snow House, and the explosion blasted a large hole through it, while the extreme heat began to melt the structure.
Monet's fruit was a second-tier Snow-Snow Fruit, allowing her body to transform into snow. Under her development, the Snow-Snow Fruit also possessed immense power.
For instance, she could lower temperatures, convert snow into ice blades, and continuously condense it to form a Snow House with defenses rivaling iron.
But Elken's explosive ability released vast amounts of energy in an instant, generating extremely high temperatures and emitting scorching gases along with shockwaves from the explosion.
The high temperature could melt layers of snow; the shockwave could disperse the condensed snow; and the hot gases would prevent any drop in temperature.
Each of these factors countered Monet's abilities.
"Damn it."
Monet's wings flashed, sending a flurry of snowflakes flying toward Elken, enveloping him.
"Ha."
Elken suddenly exhaled, and as the gas left his mouth, a tremendous explosion occurred.
Boom.
The snowflakes were all dispersed, and the temperature dropped instantly.
The Bomb-Bomb Fruit could detonate any part of the body, and gas was no exception.
Originally, R5 could cause a massive explosion just by exhaling.
As Elken continued to develop his abilities, the explosive power increased; the same gas would produce different levels of explosive force.
Elken exhaled again, blasting apart the snowflakes. The rising gas melted them into water.
However, by the time the rising gas dissipated, Monet had already vanished.
"Quick, quick."
Monet rushed into a room, picked up a Transponder Snail, and dialed a number. "Young Master, there's been a situation. Baroque Works has arrived on the island and attacked it."
"Baroque Works? How did they get to the island? Did Law contact them?" A voice came through the receiver, then asked, "Has Ace or anyone from Baroque Works shown up? What about that giant beast?"
"No, Ace hasn't arrived, and Baroque Works' leader isn't here either. Only some of his subordinates are present. One of them has abilities similar to Guladius; he can cause explosions, but it's just body explosions. He's perfectly suited to counter me," Monet replied quickly.
"Is it just some small fry?"
A voice came through the receiver, "Virgo is nearby. I'll send him over; you hold them off."
"I understand."
Monet nodded, "I will fight until the last moment."
With that, Monet hung up the phone, but the next moment, a voice came from behind her, "Are you done?"
Monet turned around to see Elken walking into the room.
"Don't worry, you'll be dead soon."
Monet's eyes darkened as she spoke. Her wings fluttered, snowflakes danced around her, and with the cold wind, she transformed into snowflakes and drifted away into the distance.
Using her abilities, Monet's speed surpassed that of a shave; all she had to do was hold on until Virgo and the Vice Admiral arrived.
But with a loud bang, a figure suddenly appeared beside Monet and threw a punch.
Boom.
An explosion rang out as Monet raised her left wing to shield herself, which was instantly shattered. She was sent flying backward. "How is he so fast?"
"Are you still trying to run?"
Elken smiled slightly as explosions began to emanate from his feet. Not only that, but numerous small explosions also appeared on his thighs, accumulating power before Elken suddenly vanished.
"Explosive Slash."
Elken appeared before Monet, placing his right hand on her head.
Boom.
A massive burst of flames engulfed Monet, who slowly collapsed to the ground.
Even though she was a Natural Element User, the extreme heat melted her snow and harmed the elemental essence itself, causing her to suffer nonetheless.
"How painful."
Elken looked at Monet and moved his legs slightly.
Using Explosive Slash still felt somewhat insufficient.
The so-called Explosive Slash involved utilizing a slicing motion to generate explosive energy from the ground beneath his feet, continuously accumulating it before propelling his body forward.
However, if too much energy was accumulated, his body would become unstable. To counter this, Elken applied a counterforce just above his thighs to stabilize his movements.
In essence, he simulated a stomp with the explosion to gather even greater energy.
Ultimately, he concentrated all that power in his legs before launching himself.
This method was faster than a simple slice and quicker than merely using an explosion as propulsion.
Yet, despite Elken's training, his legs could not compare to a powerhouse like Cecilia. After several uses, they would sustain damage.
Using it just twice would only leave him with a slight soreness that would recover after a short rest.
But if he pushed it to five times at most, his legs would be injured.
"It's over."
Elken let out a breath, and a faint explosion appeared in the gas. He then shook his body and looked into the distance.
Pat, pat.
A towering figure emerged, dragging a disheveled silhouette behind him.
