Chapter 197: Ten Thousand Meters Under the Sea
"Open the valves to inflate."
"Release the buoyancy bags and begin descending."
With Christmas's command, the bubbles at the rear of the ship began to shrink, quickly enveloping the vessel.
The buoyancy bags located at the bottom of the ship were discarded, and without them, the Sea Vessel started to sink straight down.
Covered by the membrane, the Vessel would relieve pressure from all sides. The buoyancy could no longer support the Sea Vessel, causing it to descend continuously.
The Sea Vessel descended along the Mangrove Trees of Sabaody Archipelago. The entire Sabaody Archipelago was built upon several of these Mangrove Trees, and even the bubbles surrounding the Sea Vessel were a reaction formed from the resin and air released by these trees.
After descending for a while, all that spread before them were the roots of mangrove trees, extending downward.
"Are all these roots? They're so huge."
Vivi looked at the massive wood surrounding them, her expression filled with wonder.
"So this is what lies beneath Sabaody Archipelago; it's truly fascinating," Christmas said from his seat on the ship, gazing into the distance with a hint of excitement.
The others were filled with curiosity about the underwater scene, while only Ace seemed unfazed, having been here before.
Xiaqiu also expressed surprise at everything around them.
"What is that?"
Christmas's eyes widened as he pointed at something behind the giant tree in the distance.
"Wow, what a huge sea fish."
It was a massive sea fish, several hundred meters long, partially hidden among the waves.
"If they attack us, that would be quite a trouble," Elken couldn't help but say.
But in the next moment, the sea fish began to convulse, its eyes turning white.
On the fish's body lay a giant beast, continuously gnawing at it.
"I forgot, we have an even more terrifying boss," Elken said awkwardly.
Xiaqiu was devouring the giant fish while the Sea Vessel slowly sank. After Xiaqiu finished eating, it caught up again.
As the Sea Vessel continued to descend, the surrounding waters grew darker until they reached the twilight zone.
Boom, boom, boom.
The distant sound of rolling ocean currents echoed, deafening in its intensity.
"Are there waterfalls under the sea?"
Vivi looked at the scene before her, her expression filled with astonishment.
"This is the Underwater Waterfall. It flows downward from here, reaching a depth of seven thousand meters," Ace replied.
"Seven thousand meters? The water pressure must be immense, right?"
Heckler pondered aloud.
Ace nodded. "The water pressure is indeed very high, which is why we need bubbles that can relieve the pressure. They help to mitigate the pressure from all sides, allowing us to venture into the deep sea without worrying about the crushing force of the water."
"What about the captain?"
Cecilia asked anxiously.
"There shouldn't be any problems. Even at ten thousand meters deep in the ocean, there are still Sea Beasts present," Ace assured her.
"That's good to hear."
Heckler nodded, and the Sea Vessel rushed towards the Giant Abyss below.
However, as they approached, a massive creature appeared at the entrance of the cave.
"Is that a Squid?"
In the dim light and the beam of the Vessel's spotlight, a gigantic Squid emerged, with each of its Tentacles measuring over one hundred meters in length.
"It's the Northeast Sea Behemoth."
Ace immediately said, "There's a huge Squid in the direction of Fishman Island that attacks passing Vessels, crushing them with its Tentacles. The last time I was here, it wasn't around; this time, we just happened to run into it."
As they got closer to the Northeast Sea Behemoth, it also spotted the Pirate Ship and began to move toward them.
Such a colossal beast could easily kill many on land, but now they were underwater.
A ship full of Devil Fruit Users stood no chance against it.
Yet no one seemed worried about this.
Boom.
Suddenly, from behind, another giant creature charged toward the Northeast Sea Behemoth.
With a loud crack, the massive beast propelled itself with its six legs, lunging straight at the Northeast Sea Behemoth and sinking its teeth into its head.
The Northeast Sea Behemoth, attacked by Xiaqiu, immediately went wild. Thick tentacles wrapped around Xiaqiu, constricting tighter and tighter.
Xiaqiu's six legs began to thrash, its claws striking with precision as it stomped down, gradually shattering the tentacles of the Northeast Sea Behemoth.
However, as the tentacles constricted and bound other parts of Xiaqiu's body, its movements became restricted.
The enormous tentacles, stretching over a hundred meters, exerted tremendous force; they could likely crush even the rocky pillars of the seabed.
Yet, they had no effect on Xiaqiu's body, failing to inflict any significant damage.
Thus, Xiaqiu and the Northeast Sea Behemoth found themselves in a stalemate, neither able to overpower the other.
At that moment, however, the other tentacles of the Northeast Sea Behemoth surged toward the nearby sea vessel.
"This is bad; it's coming for us."
Seeing this scene, Heckler's expression changed. The sailors on the ship quickly gripped the helm to evade.
"Prepare bubbles for me and Heckler; we’re going out to attack."
"Ace!" he shouted loudly, but at that moment, Xiaqiu suddenly kicked with its six legs, directly pushing the Northeast Sea Behemoth down the hole.
Boom.
The Northeast Sea Behemoth and Xiaqiu instantly vanished into the darkness.
"Quick, follow me!" Heckler shouted as the Sea Vessel also entered the hole.
Darkness enveloped them, with only the searchlights illuminating a small area. However, the rapid descent caused the scenery before them to constantly shift.
After a brief period of darkness, they arrived at a depth of seven thousand meters beneath the sea. Below them lay the Sixth Land, but it was not the deepest point beneath the Red Earth.
"Finally down," Cecilia sighed and then called out, "Where's the president?"
Heckler immediately activated the ship's searchlights to scan the surroundings, hoping to find any trace of the president.
"Will the president be able to succeed? The opponent's Tentacles have a strong binding force, and most importantly, it's just too large," Elken asked with concern. "And underwater, there's no strength; Six Styles can hardly be used. It will be quite difficult for the president to overcome it."
The group searched for Xiaqiu and soon spotted the massive Northeast Sea Behemoth, with Xiaqiu perched on top, gnawing at the carcass of the beast.
"It's the president."
Seeing this scene, everyone felt relieved, but Ace was curious about how Xiaqiu had managed to kill the Northeast Sea Behemoth.
The Sea Vessel drifted along the current, passing by Xiaqiu as it continued onward.
Xiaqiu continued to feast on the Northeast Sea Behemoth's remains, carefully avoiding the head since he had injected Venom into it.
Although his strength and attack power surpassed that of the beast, its sheer size made it difficult for him to control himself and move freely.
Thus, Xiaqiu had used his venomous fangs to poison it.
After consuming half of its Tentacles, Xiaqiu felt full and hurried to catch up with the Sea Vessel.
The Sea Vessel pressed on, and soon a massive deep cave loomed ahead.
"Let's go in; Fishman Island is just below," Ace said.
The Sea Vessel entered the cave and immediately began to plummet downward, unable to control its descent. They were about to crash into the cliff face.
Bang.
Xiaqiu stood between the ship and the cliff, eight tentacles supporting the vessel.
Whoosh.
The Sea Vessel continued its descent, directly plunging into the depths of the ocean.
Splash.
Suddenly, the surroundings opened up, darkness vanished, and light returned.
Onboard the Sea Vessel, everyone stared blankly at the scene before them: an island covered in a thin film, clinging to massive trees, shimmering with a peculiar glow under the sunlight.
Fishman Island.
