Chapter 186: New Subordinates
"Should I apply some special parts for him? Like the arms of a Gorilla or the teeth of a Tiger?"
In a mansion on the side, Hogback stood in front of the operating table, looking at Heckler with a grin.
"Tigers and Lions?"
Heckler shook his head and said, "Their strength might not match mine."
"You just need to focus on treating him properly," Ace's voice echoed from a distance.
"What a pity."
Hogback was performing surgery on Heckler. Although the injuries were gruesome, for a doctor as renowned as Hogback, they were nothing to worry about.
"I never expected the Second Division Commander of Whitebeard to be here."
While continuing with the surgery, Hogback made small talk.
"Don't get distracted; focus on the operation," Ace replied coldly upon hearing this.
"Don't worry; it's just a surgery."
Hogback said, "Why don't we discuss what comes next? I'm just a doctor and pose no threat to you, so how about letting me go?"
Looking at Hogback, Ace said, "I'm not the captain and have no right to decide your fate. However, if you manage to heal Heckler, I believe the captain will spare your life."
"Your so-called captain can't possibly be Whitebeard, right?" Hogback paused, looking at Ace.
"Of course not. I've temporarily withdrawn from the Whitebeard Pirate Crew," Ace replied.
"This..."
Hogback furrowed his brow, wanting to say something more, but a loud rumbling sound came from afar.
Boom, boom.
Ace immediately stepped outside and saw Xiaqiu. "Heckler has already been treated by Hogback."
Xiaqiu didn't respond but instead looked around. Ace glanced into the distance, frowning as he asked, "What are you all doing?"
In the shadows, some pirates who had been secretly observing quietly slipped away.
They were people whose shadows had been taken by Moria; they were not dead yet and were temporarily residing on the island.
During the recent battle, they had noticed it but did not dare to approach.
However, with Moria's death and the return of their shadows, they had come quietly.
"Is that really Fire Fist Ace?"
In the past three years, those who had been captured knew of Ace's existence, and now that they saw him in person, they confirmed his identity.
They exchanged messages, slowly emerging from the darkness.
"I... we came here to thank you."
A figure stepped forward and said, "Thank you for saving us."
Upon hearing this, Ace sighed and replied, "There's no need to thank me. I didn't come here to save you."
"But regardless, you are our benefactor."
The figure in the distance bowed to Ace, who waved his hand and said, "Alright, you should leave quickly. This is not a place to linger."
"Understood."
One by one, the figures moved away into the distance, but one remained.
"Hmm?"
Ace turned to see a woman with a peculiar appearance standing there, fidgeting.
"What else do you need?" Ace asked her.
"You saved me, and I have no way to repay you except to offer myself."
The woman quickly said, "Please marry me."
Upon hearing this, Ace was stunned, while Xiaqiu opened her mouth in delight. This woman, if nothing unexpected happened, should be Lola, the daughter of G.
"I'm sorry, I refuse," Ace replied helplessly.
"Another failure."
Lola shook her head and sadly walked away, disappearing into the distance.
"President, if you want to laugh, just go ahead and laugh."
Ace looked at Xiaqiu's expression and said resignedly.
*Cough cough.*
Xiaqiu cleared her throat, flicked her front paw, and tossed Perona aside. "First, tie her up and then wake her up."
"Got it."
Ace immediately stepped forward, returned to the house to grab some bandages to tie Perona up, and then poured water over her head.
"Ah."
Perona opened her eyes, gasping for breath. She tried to move but realized she was restrained. After struggling a couple of times, she looked into the distance and saw Xiaqiu.
Xiaqiu immediately opened her mouth, revealing sharp teeth.
"Ahhh!"
Perona screamed as she spotted Ace not far away and shouted, "You, you need to make it go back!"
"Sorry, I can't command it," Ace replied with a smile.
"Are you scared of me?" Xiaqiu's voice echoed from nearby.
"Y-yes, of course."
Perona instinctively answered but then realized something and glared at Xiaqiu. "You can talk."
It wasn't just one voice; another sound emerged from nearby.
Hogback stood there, watching Xiaqiu.
"Weren't you treating Heckler? Why are you out here?" Ace asked, somewhat angrily at the sight.
"The treatment is over; he's getting an IV drip," Hogback quickly explained, then turned to Xiaqiu. "Esteemed lady, I didn't mean to eavesdrop on your conversation; I just wanted to report his condition to you."
Xiaqiu paid little attention to that and looked at Hogback, asking, "When will he be fully recovered?"
"Hogback replied, 'If it's just to go underground, it would take two days. But if I need to recover to fight, it will take at least seven days.'
Xiaqiu nodded, appreciating his response. 'Very good, you did well.'
'Thank you, my lord,' Hogback said, wiping the sweat from his forehead. He then asked, 'So, my lord, can you let me go?'
'Let you go?' Xiaqiu shook his head. 'I have no intention of letting you leave.'
Hogback's expression turned tense as he asked, 'I—I pose no threat to you. I'm here because Moria forced me.'
'Forced you?' Xiaqiu sneered. 'Aren't you working with Moria? He helped you revive Cyndori, and in return, you work for him. Without you, he wouldn't be able to create such a large Zombie army.'
'How do you know?' Hogback was taken aback, staring blankly at Xiaqiu.
'Don't try to deceive me,' Xiaqiu said coldly. 'I won't let you go, and I won't spare her either.'"
"No, please don't kill me,"
Perona shrank back, her expression filled with anxiety.
Xiaqiu smiled and said, "Of course I won't kill you. I need you to become my subordinates and serve me."
"Become your subordinates?"
Both Hogback and Perona were surprised by this outcome.
Xiaqiu continued with a smile, "Now that Moria is dead, you have nowhere to go. Why not follow me instead? What do you say?"
Perona was very important, and Hogback's value was equally significant.
As a skilled surgeon, his medical expertise held great worth as well.
"I agree."
Hogback looked at Xiaqiu and said, "I am willing to be your subordinate."
For him, money was more important than medical skills, but in the face of life, those things no longer mattered.
Xiaqiu nodded and turned to Perona, asking, "What about you?"
"I... I will join too." Perona hesitated for a moment but ultimately agreed to this outcome.
"Very well."
Xiaqiu nodded and looked at Ace, saying, "From now on, she will be your partner."
"My partner? Does that mean we have to be together often?"
Ace recalled the events of his life, feeling incredibly negative due to her ghost. Suddenly, he found the prospect of future days somewhat frightening.
I must learn Armament Haki as soon as possible, Ace thought.
