Chapter 165: The Battle
Flames erupted suddenly, illuminating the surrounding area with a brilliant light as the fire spread outward, igniting nearby buildings and then extending into the distance.
The pirates of Magu Town fled in terror, driven away by the fear that Ace's reputation instilled.
One of the Four Emperors, Whitebeard, had a bounty of five hundred million, while the most formidable pirate in Magu Town had a bounty of only thirty-five million.
The disparity in strength brought about by their bounties was vividly displayed in the raging flames.
Thus, these individuals frantically ran away, distancing themselves from the island.
"What happened?"
The tall Bashas stood there as the crowd squeezed past him, yet his figure remained completely still.
Thud.
A figure slowly jumped down from a distant wall and said, "It's Ace and his former subordinate, Bartholomew, who are blocking Captain and Lafitte."
"Ace has arrived? I really want to fight him."
Bashas smiled and said, "Van Auga, let's go lend a hand."
Boom.
A tremendous explosion echoed in the distance, flames spreading toward them as a figure on a white horse stumbled out, exclaiming, "That nearly cost me my life."
"We should steer clear of the captain's battle," Van Auga said. "Their destructive power is too great. Let's move away from here. Lafitte is fighting with Octopus to the north; we should go help him and then look for Nami. I didn't see her earlier, but she must be on this island. If we find her, we won't have to worry about Ace."
"Alright."
The three of them quickly made their way north, where Lafitte was engaged in combat with Octopus.
Lafitte soared through the air, wielding his sword as he fought against Octopus.
"Octopus Jar Technique."
Octopus lunged forward, thrusting his sword at Lafitte with incredible speed.
"That's fast."
Faced with Octopus's attack, Lafitte showed no signs of movement. Suddenly, Octopus hesitated, and Lafitte calmly retreated.
He was hypnotized.
Octopus felt a wave of dizziness wash over him and immediately shook it off, regaining his focus. His six arms twisted and swung forward in a Heart Point attack, but each strike veered off in different directions.
Octopus bloomed.
A series of Wave Slashes emerged from the blade, powerful and sharp, enveloping Lafitte once more.
"Not bad."
Suddenly, Lafitte flapped his wings fiercely, stepping on the ground as he swiftly retreated, simultaneously thrusting his sword forward with his right hand.
Clang, clang, clang...
The six Wave Slashes approached, but as he retreated, Lafitte shattered them one by one.
"Bring it on."
Octopus Eight lunged again, engaging in battle with Lafitte.
Lafitte was a navigator, but he was also skilled with a sword, capable of flight, and adept at hypnosis.
Yet in this situation, he could only manage a stalemate against Octopus Eight.
When Ace arrived at the Sabaody Archipelago, his bounty reached one hundred million. However, after reaching Fishman Island, he parted ways with Ace and returned to Fishman Island, challenging Leopard Zang.
But he soon realized he was still no match for Leopard Zang. The gap wasn't too wide, so he dedicated himself to honing his swordsmanship. Two years later, his strength was no less than that of Leopard Zang.
Lafitte was not merely a swordsman, and he only had one sword. Faced with Eight, he struggled to hold his ground, using every trick he had, but he was still at a disadvantage.
He didn't want to fight here, but Eight kept him occupied. Every time Lafitte attempted to take flight, Eight would seize the opportunity to attack his wings.
Clang, clang, clang, clang.
Lafitte and Eight were locked in a fierce struggle when suddenly, several figures appeared in the distance.
"They're here."
Seeing the newcomers filled Lafitte with joy, but Eight's expression darkened.
Facing one opponent was already overwhelming; now there were three more. This was bad news.
However, Eight had no intention of retreating. Blackbeard's Pirate Crew had five members; excluding Blackbeard himself, four were present.
He couldn't let them escape. It was better to fight until the last moment; even if he died, he would take at least one of them down with him.
Eight resolved not to flee but to prepare for a final showdown against Lafitte.
"I'll handle this."
Van Auga raised his sniper rifle, aiming at the distant Eight, ready to provide long-range support.
Under the manipulation of Lafitte, it was not difficult for Van Auga to hit him with his marksmanship.
As long as he could injure him, Lafitte could take care of Eight himself.
But just as he was about to pull the trigger, he suddenly turned around, aiming his sniper rifle at the back.
He saw a door open in the air behind him, and a gun barrel was aimed directly at him.
"I suggest you don't move."
A voice came from behind the door. Van Auga looked at the silver gun barrel, holding his own weapon but only able to aim at the muzzle of the other gun.
Was this a Devil Fruit ability?
There were no other body parts visible besides the gun barrel; where was she?
Van Auga dared not move, staring at the gunpoint while contemplating his next move.
"Are there others?"
Bashas flashed forward, intending to block the space between Van Auga and the gun barrel with his own body.
But at that moment, a figure descended from above, crashing down toward Bashas.
Boom.
A large pit appeared as Bashas rolled away, smoke swirling around. A figure slowly emerged, looking at Bashas and saying, "Sorry, your opponent is me."
Bashas stared at the figure with a cold expression and asked, "Who are you?"
"I am Heckler."
Heckler stood in front of Bashas, clenching his fists.
"How about we discuss this while watching the show?" Poison Q lazily asked from a distance.
There, a tall woman stood, sighing as she said, "I came out this time to fight, thinking I would encounter a powerful opponent. I didn't expect my opponent to be someone like you, barely alive. It's really hard to get excited about this. Well, I'll just go along with what you want."
"That's great."
Poison Q spat out blood, wiped the corner of his mouth, and smiled, saying, "Looks like I'm quite lucky today."
"Help has arrived."
Bashas sensed the figures appearing in the distance and felt relieved, intensifying his offensive.
"All tied up? It seems we can only wait for the captain to defeat Ace," Lafitte said with a grim expression, not expecting so many people to arrive, and they didn't seem weak either.
He no longer tried to escape but charged forward, engaging in battle with Eight once again.
"Blackbeard's abilities are quite strange."
Nami stood on the hillside, watching the scene unfold in the distance as houses disappeared and darkness spread everywhere.
In the midst of the encroaching darkness, a flicker of fire stood out prominently.
That was Ace.
"Ace will definitely defeat him," Nami prayed in her heart, adding, "And Eight and those who came to rescue me."
