Chapter One Hundred and Forty-Two: Haki
In one moment, Xiaqiu's body was still filled with the remnants of the Heat Flow provided by seven or eight officers he had consumed, but in the next moment, he was engulfed by an even more immense Heat Flow.
It was intense, scorching, and thick.
It felt as if a bomb had detonated within his body, waves of Heat Flow spreading outwards.
Crackling, squeaking, clanging.

The Heat Flow was colossal; if the Heat Flow from the Commodore was a stream, then the current Heat Flow was a mighty river.
This Heat Flow washed over Xiaqiu's body, bringing with it a long-lost sensation of pain. Wherever the Heat Flow touched, it felt as if a giant hand were tearing apart his body, kneading it, and then reshaping it anew.
It hurt immensely, but the power contained within was deeply satisfying.
Xiaqiu rolled and flipped in the ocean, the cold seawater alleviating his pain while his movements released a euphoric thrill within him.
With a roar, Xiaqiu surged up from the ocean, opening his mouth wide to let out a tremendous shout.
Roar.
The massive sound echoed into the distance.
Then Xiaqiu submerged back into the sea, continuing to swim freely.
After a full fifteen minutes, the Heat Flow gradually weakened until it vanished completely.
"Awesome."
Xiaqiu felt the power surging through her body, a deep sense of satisfaction washing over her.
Boom.
Xiaqiu's body twisted as she propelled herself forward, the surrounding waves parting as she transformed into a shadow, instantly covering a significant distance.
The change was immense.
Her body had become more resilient, her strength magnified, and her speed increased.
Her physical attributes had risen to a whole new level, and it was easy to predict that her overall strength had also seen a tremendous boost.
But that wasn't the main focus.
There was also Haki.
The primary reason for her journey this time was Haki. Even with her enhanced physical qualities, she would still be limited by her form and the extent of her enhancements.
On land, powerful individuals could still use their abilities and agile forms to defeat her.
Only by acquiring Haki could she step into the next realm.
Thus, Xiaqiu gradually slowed down, feeling her body as two unique forces swirled within her.
One large, one small.
The larger force resided at her Heart, while the smaller one lingered around her head.

Xiaqiu focused intently, attempting to harness the energy from her head. As the thought took shape, the energy seemed to transform into something tangible, captured by her consciousness.
And then?
Xiaqiu was unsure how to utilize it; she merely controlled the energy as it began to expand outward.
Whoosh.
The energy left Xiaqiu's head, first enveloping her body before spreading outwards.
In the next moment, Xiaqiu experienced a peculiar sensation, feeling an incredible sharpness in her awareness.
Her vision improved, her sense of smell heightened, and her hearing sharpened. The sound waves from the Receiver became more sensitive, allowing her to discern even the faintest signals.
Not only that, but her body's tactile sense also enhanced. She could perceive the flow of currents and the changes caused by water colliding against her skin, as well as the sounds of the flowing water—all vividly present in her mind.
Her senses were heightened.
This was one of the characteristics of Observation Haki.
However, Xiaqiu could not test the other features for now and had to set that aside for the time being.
However, it was certain that the energy in the head was Observation Haki.
The other one was Armament Haki.

This time, Xiaqiu focused his attention on concentrating the Armament Haki on the surface of his body, especially on his left front leg.

This time, Xiaqiu's legs were filled with Armament Haki. The Haki did not dissipate, and half of it remained within his body.
Xiaqiu kicked the seawater, causing it to churn violently and form a whirlpool. At the same time, the Haki was being consumed, but the rate of consumption was minimal, and the subsequent Armament Haki was continuously replenishing.
With this in mind, Xiaqiu had nearly grasped the issue from earlier through these two changes.
Armament Haki has three techniques: one focuses on specific parts of the body, another envelops weapons, and the last wraps around the entire body (as clearly recorded in the reference book).
The first technique is to wrap around the body to withstand enemy attacks. This not only defends against physical attacks but also protects against attacks made using Devil Fruit abilities (the latter part is a direct quote).
A notable example is when Luffy fought Sengoku two years ago; when he struck Sengoku, he felt pain himself and fell down. Another instance occurred on Forty-Eight Seasons Island when a giant beast stepped on Rayleigh without actually touching him, yet Rayleigh still fell. Additionally, during the Marineford War, the three Admirals merely raised their hands to block Whitebeard's shockwaves.
The second technique involves covering weapons with Haki to enhance their power—this applies to bamboo, swords, axes, and fists.
The third technique concentrates on specific parts of the body to increase hardness and attack power through Armament Haki.
Examples include Luffy, Virgo, Green Pepper, Pika, and others.
Xiaqiu's first attempt at using Armament Haki actually caused the Haki to leave his body without wrapping around it, leading to its dissipation.
This time, however, he injected it into specific parts of his body without allowing Armament Haki to dissipate.
As for how to achieve the first and second techniques, that would require further development.
Observation Haki differs from Armament Haki; the former is more like a sense while the latter resembles a form of energy that consumes itself and has varying levels of strength.
As for his own Armament Haki capacity, it could likely envelop both of his legs.
However, during battle, Haki is consumable, making it difficult for him to envelop both legs while fighting.
It may seem like a small amount, but one of his legs is significantly larger than most people's. In the original story, only Virgo and Pika concentrated their Haki throughout their bodies, but both were directly severed.
His legs are somewhat larger than theirs.
Luffy's Fourth Gear only envelops part of his body, and after using it once, he cannot use Haki again for ten minutes.
Xiaqiu's Haki is inherited from Oni Spider, which inherently consumes some energy during the absorption process. His own Haki simply cannot compare to those mentioned above.
The root cause is his large physique.
The Armament Haki that can cover another person's body can only cover one leg in his case.
Nevertheless, with these two types of Haki, Xiaqiu's combat power has greatly increased.
He can sense the enemy's movements, attack the physical form of a Natural Element User, and enhance both defense and attack power.
This means that enemies cannot attack him through agile movements or eliminate him instantly with Haki.
Additionally, with the support of a Vice Admiral and dozens of Navy reinforcements, Xiaqiu's combat strength has doubled.
Previously, he could defeat a Major General underwater but could not defeat a Vice Admiral. On land, facing a Major General or Commodore who could use Shave and Moon Step made victory impossible for him.
While a Commodore couldn't kill him, a Major General could cut through iron and exploit his weak points with speed, putting him in grave danger.
But now, Xiaqiu can already defeat a Vice Admiral underwater, at least ensuring he won't be defeated. After all, Vice Admirals can use Shave and Moon Step, giving them some chance to escape.
On the water, if facing a Major General who doesn't flee, then death is certain for them.
If he runs, with his enhanced body, he could catch up, but depending on the situation, victory is not guaranteed. However, the opponent would definitely be unable to do anything to him.
As for facing the Vice Admiral on land, it would still be somewhat difficult. The amount of Haki and his own size remain issues.
So right now, his strength underwater is at least equal to that of a Vice Admiral, while above water, it is at least equal to that of a Major General.
Therefore, Xiaqiu needs to master the techniques of using Haki next, studying the applications of the two types of Haki and mastering combat techniques that combine both types.
He also needs to train his Haki to see if he can improve it and hunt other Haki users to increase his own Haki.
