Chapter 129: Arrangements
In the conference room, General Sicily looked at Disley and said, "It's already eight o'clock, and there's no sign of them. I plan to report to headquarters and withdraw from here. So, Brigadier Disley, what do you think?"
"Let's proceed with that," Brigadier Disley replied, somewhat troubled. She pinched the bridge of her nose, feeling that she had missed an opportunity.
If she could capture Nico Robin, she would be promoted to Major General, but it seemed unlikely now.
At that moment, the door was pushed open, and a voice rang out as a Sailor rushed in holding a Transponder Snail. "We've received news from the front; there are suspected traces of Nico Robin."
"Give it to me."
General Sicily took the device and held it to her ear. "This is General Sicily. Do you have any evidence? How long ago did she leave? ... Alright, continue searching; we'll discuss it."
After more than a minute, General Sicily put down the Transponder Snail.
"Major General, what news do we have from the front?" Brigadier Disley asked with concern.
General Sicily replied, "Colonel Weibel's fleet has found clues about Nico Robin. They are located seventy nautical miles southwest on a deserted island. There’s a wooden cabin there filled with various items showing signs of long-term habitation, and there are giant beast footprints. It’s very likely that this is where Nico Robin has been staying."
"Then we should head over there," Brigadier Disley said as she stood up.
General Sicily shook her head. "However, the food left behind has already rotted. Nico Robin must have left at least two hours ago, so I suspect she has already departed."
"But we can determine the direction she left in," Disley immediately countered.
General Sicily looked at her helplessly and said, "The direction of the island is not far from another shipping lane. If she left without being detected by us, she would have continued southwest towards that other lane. That takes her out of our search area. The ocean is vast with so many islands; if she randomly chooses one to take refuge on, how could we possibly find her? So since headquarters allows us to withdraw, why not just..."
"I'll go by myself."
Disley stood up and said, "I'll take a Fleet and head in that direction."
With that, Disley left through the door, disappearing into the distance.
"Hey!"
General Sicily watched this scene with some helplessness.
"Major General, what should we do?" another Naval Colonel asked.
General Sicily replied, "Let's have Weber meet up with her and search again."
"Understood."
"Have they really discovered us?"
Xiaqiu gazed at the distant island, where several Naval Battleships were gathered near the Coast. Moreover, on the Surface of the Sea, there were seven or eight warships.
That was the place where he and Nico Robin had lived for two years.
He had hoped that the Navy wouldn't find out, keeping it as a memento; occasionally, he could return when he had time.
But if it was ruined, then so be it. Yesterday, he had sent Bola ashore to retrieve some items, such as the contact information of various Officers that he had left with Nico Robin and certain storage points—enough to fill a thick book.
The other items held no real significance.
She left.
Xiaqiu did not stay here but headed straight towards Whiskey Peak.
The Navy had searched as far as Drum Island, beyond which lay a garden marked as dangerous due to its isolation, inhabited by numerous Dinosaurs. Even a Major General would face danger there.
Given the risks, it was difficult for Nico Robin and the giant beasts to survive in such a place. If they attempted to live there, taking advantage of the perilous environment without a Vice Admiral accompanying them, their chances of survival would be slim.
Xiaqiu arrived at Whiskey Peak the next morning but did not go up; instead, he made his way to another island, climbed up, and ventured deep into the forest where a figure had long been waiting.
The figure before him was strikingly attractive, with long blue hair cascading over her shoulders. She wore a leather jacket over a fitted tank top that struggled to contain her ample chest, while the hem of the tank top sat just above her navel, exposing her slender waist.
Her lower half was clad in tight leather pants that hugged her long legs, and she wore knee-high boots.
"How do I look in this outfit?" the woman asked Xiaqiu.
'She really loves wearing leather pants.'
Xiaqiu shook his head helplessly; however, compared to her original attire, this was much less bizarre.
The woman was Bola, but Xiaqiu had been dissatisfied with her previous outfit—it was too revealing and eccentric. She had worn a brown leather bra and belts wrapped around her abdomen, which looked quite strange.
Her café attire had seemed too ordinary, so Xiaqiu had suggested she change into something more appropriate and swap out her wild hairstyle.
Thus, Bola transformed into her current appearance. While she still wore leather clothing, the wild hair was replaced with longer locks, and with her body now covered more appropriately, she appeared much more polished.
Xiaqiu nodded and said, "That works."
"That's all that matters to me," Bola said with a smile.
Xiaqiu then stated, "There’s something I need you to do next."
"Just give the orders," Bola replied immediately.
Xiaqiu continued, "First, you need to convey a message to the hunters at Whiskey Peak: after they kill the pirates, they should not bury the bodies but send them here instead."
Xiaqiu needed the pirate corpses and didn't have time to wait for captures herself, while the hunters at Whiskey Peak liked to bury pirate bodies under cacti.
So, Xiaqiu planned to have them send the bodies here so she could feed directly.
"Corpses?"
Bola was slightly taken aback by this request but quickly responded, "That’s an easy task."
Xiaqiu added, "Secondly, you can find someone to build some houses here. For a while, this will be where I contact you."
"I'll arrange for that right away," Bola assured her.
Xiaqiu nodded and said, "Additionally, Nico Robin has already informed every agent about your appointment as Vice President via Transponder Snail, but you still need to meet them in person. You also need to evaluate the new agents, especially the Senior Agents. There are quite a few vacancies now; we need to rebuild our high-end combat power with partners for R1 and R4."
"I will make sure to handle it well," Bola promised.
"That's good to hear."
Xiaqiu looked at Bola and said, "Take care of these tasks first. I'll let you know about the next steps afterward."
"Alright."
Bola nodded and then asked, "What about r1? You mentioned needing a replacement; where is the original r1 now?"
"r1?"
Xiaqiu looked at Bola and said, "I intended to make him the Vice President, but he chose to refuse."
"So you killed him?" Bola asked cautiously.
"No."
Xiaqiu shook her head. "After all this time working for me, how could I possibly kill him? Daz Bonis, well, that's r1, has returned to the West Sea to continue his work as an assassin."
"I see."
Upon hearing Xiaqiu mention his name and hometown, Bola let out a sigh of relief. "I will find a suitable candidate as soon as possible."
r1 was her partner; although they rarely worked together on missions, they had known each other for some time and were familiar with each other's names.
Knowing that r1 was still alive eased Bola's mind.
"I'll contact you again in a while."
With that, Xiaqiu turned and stepped into the ocean, disappearing into the distance.
The source of Enhanced Energy has been identified: the pirates killed by the Bounty Hunter at Whiskey Peak.
Although most pirates entering the Grand Line have little Enhanced Energy, if their numbers are significant, it can accumulate into something considerable.
Most importantly, it is relatively safe, with minimal risk involved.
Once the Navy's manhunt subsides, one could also attempt to hunt down the Navy. However, large-scale operations are not advisable in this sea area, making it difficult to conduct searches.
Moreover, the time frame is lengthy, requiring careful consideration of the right timing.
In addition to this, one must continue evolving physically, developing a more rational body structure.
Xiaqiu already has a destination in mind for the next phase of evolution.
