At the Rain Banquet Casino, Crocodile listened coldly to the voice on the phone. "You say Miss All Sunday was killed by a Black Fish? Did you see it with your own eyes?"
"That's right. Miss All Sunday left on a small boat and was attacked by the Black Fish, falling into the sea. We were too far away to see it directly; we were busy with rescue efforts. When we searched afterward, we found no trace of Miss All Sunday," came the voice from the other end.
"I understand." Crocodile hung up the phone, his expression darkening. The fleet had been attacked by the Black Fish on their return, and Nico Robin had also met with misfortune. Although they hadn't seen it happen, she was a Devil Fruit User; how could she survive after falling into the sea? To die like this was unacceptable.
Crocodile furrowed his brow; she was an indispensable part of his plan. Her abilities were formidable, and within a month of joining, she could handle various tasks efficiently. More importantly, she could interpret the Poneglyphs, which contained information about Pluton, a weapon capable of destroying the world. His ultimate goal was to master Pluton and dominate the world. But now...
Crocodile seethed with anger, wishing he could blow that Black Fish to pieces.
Meanwhile, Nico Robin had entered the forest and began exploring the island. To survive, she needed sufficient fresh water resources as well as vegetables and fruits—red meat would be a bonus. Water was essential; without it, life would be at risk within three days. As for vegetables and fruits, they provided vital vitamins, trace elements, and proteins. Red meat included pork, beef, lamb, venison, rabbit meat, etc., rich in minerals like iron, thiamine, riboflavin, and phosphorus. While she could manage without red meat for a while, water and vegetables were non-negotiable. If she couldn't find them here, she'd have to move to another island since that Black Fish wouldn't let her return.
After walking for a while, Nico Robin suddenly closed her eyes and raised her hand slightly. In an instant, petals began to fall around her. Arms sprouted from trees, branches, and rocks—dozens of them spread across a wide area. Nico Robin's current limit was two hundred arms—more than enough for her needs. Each palm bore a red-black eye that scanned the surroundings.
"Safe; no large creatures detected in the area," one arm reported.
"Biological traces found: one rabbit, one wild boar, and one fawn," another arm added.
Nico Robin moved forward step by step as more arms grew out to explore her surroundings. The first priority was confirming animal presence; it seemed there was no shortage of red meat available. With animals around, there would also be plenty of water and food.
"A Leopard?" Nico Robin spotted a leopard resting in a tree just as it lunged at one of her arms. Bang! Bang! Several arms emerged around the leopard to ensnare it and throw it down from its perch.
"A snake?" Nico Robin noticed a snake darting toward her hand. She quickly retracted her blooming arms; caution was necessary. Ordinary leopards and snakes posed little threat; even without using her Devil Fruit powers, she could handle them easily. However, they might attempt ambushes.
Continuing forward while avoiding dangerous creatures or driving them off or killing them if necessary, Nico Robin arrived at the foot of the mountain where she discovered a troop of monkeys playing among the trees near the mountain.
"What is that?" She saw one monkey holding a bright red fruit that oozed juice when bitten into—clearly enjoying itself. Although she couldn't identify the fruit, it looked edible and could provide hydration.
Her hands caught the monkeys' attention; they curiously approached to touch her hands. But in an instant, arms surrounded them and began tickling their bodies.
"Chirp chirp." Some monkeys squirmed with laughter while others reveled in the gentle touches with blissful expressions.
With a snap, all arms vanished in an instant. The monkeys looked around in confusion, unsure of what had just happened.
Nico Robin didn't approach the mountain base but instead moved laterally to continue her exploration. She noticed an increasing number of creatures and discovered three or four types of strange fruits along the way.
What is that? Nico Robin's eyes narrowed as she suddenly spotted a pond nestled between trees at the base of the mountains. The rocks above showed signs of water erosion while a small stream flowed away from the pond into the distance.
Following the stream led her to animals drinking from its banks. The river wound its way toward the other side of the island—directly opposite where she had landed.
"Water is good." Finding a water source eased her worries significantly. With water available along with animals and some fruits nearby, she could survive for now.
Nico Robin chose not to investigate further but returned along her path to the shore where she found no sign of Black Fish.
"Little Black, come out," she called loudly.
Suddenly, waves rippled across the surface of the sea as a massive shadow emerged from below—looking expectantly at her.
"There’s a pond at the foot of the mountain on this island filled with drinkable water. There are some wild beasts in the jungle that will suffice for food. I didn’t find any vegetables but did discover some fruits; I can survive here for now," Nico Robin said as she sat by the shore looking at Black Fish.
"Mm-hmm." Xiaqiu nodded happily; this meant Nico Robin could live here comfortably.
"Since survival isn't an issue for now, we need to consider living arrangements temporarily; this place isn't suitable—it’s too far from water and lacks many essentials." Nico Robin had already chosen a better location near some marshland.
"Okay!" Xiaqiu nodded eagerly and followed Nico Robin as they swam forward.
After swimming for a while, Nico Robin suddenly leaped onto Xiaqiu's head and shouted: "Circle around the island."
"Got it!" Xiaqiu immediately sped up toward their destination as they circled half of the island before Nico Robin instructed him to stop.
"This depth is acceptable." The eastern side of the island had shallower waters with sandbanks nearby while both northern and southern sides were deeper.
Once Xiaqiu stopped moving, Nico Robin jumped ashore and closed her eyes while raising her hands to search for where the stream ended nearby. After walking some distance forward, she spotted it but realized that instead of leading to an ocean outlet, it ended in marshland—a potential rice paddy if only there were rice plants growing there.
Shaking her head in disappointment, Nico Robin returned to shore where Xiaqiu swam ahead for a bit until they reached an area close to some trees on the right side of marshland near the coast—right next to rising hills visible above them.
The coast here was steep enough for Xiaqiu's survival while being closer to sea level—only about thirty centimeters deep at its lowest point—and ahead lay where Nico Robin intended to establish their habitat.
"Let’s prepare accommodations first." Thinking this over, Nico Robin took off her hat and placed it on a nearby rock by the shore while letting her dark blue-black hair cascade down attractively before removing her high-heeled boots to reveal two delicate white feet which she set beside her hat before stretching lazily as she walked further away only to get her feet dirty after just a few steps.
"What is she doing?" Xiaqiu shifted his body forward slightly while stretching his neck out over land to watch Nico Robin curiously.
