Chapter Eighty-Eight: Departure
"This group of useless fools."
In the back office of the Rain Banquet Casino in the Rainy District, Crocodile set down the Transponder Snail and sat behind the desk, his expression unusually grim.
Nico Robin sat in a nearby armchair and gently asked, "What happened?"
Crocodile replied, "Whiskey Hill Town has sent a distress signal. They are out of food and hope we can provide some support."
"Wait a moment."
Nico Robin inquired, "Didn’t we send R5 and Valentine's Day to Whiskey Peak not long ago? By now, they should have arrived."
Crocodile's face darkened. "But according to the report, R5 and the others have not reached their destination."
"Not arrived? Did they encounter problems on the way?"
Nico Robin raised an eyebrow and then said, "Last time, two hunting teams sent out by R8 didn't return either. Is there an issue in that sea area?"
Crocodile snorted coldly. "Perhaps there’s a problem with Whiskey Hill Town itself."
"What do you mean by that..." Nico Robin suddenly looked at Crocodile.
Crocodile stated, "The lack of food is already suspicious. A group of Bounty Hunters can't even stockpile their own supplies. Moreover, there have been repeated incidents; even Senior Agents sent out have vanished without a trace."
Nico Robin nodded. "But our means of communication are limited right now. We can't investigate what's happening there; we can only rely on the Transponder Snail and directives delivered individually."
"Crocodile said, 'So we need other means of communication in the future, but for now, we must deal with the situation in Whiskey Hill Town.'"
Nico Robin looked at Crocodile and asked, "Who does the president plan to send?"
Crocodile tapped his fingers on the table and replied, "Since they can defeat R5 and Valentine's Day, let's send R along with R4 and Christmas. They will lead sixty Billionaires."
Nico Robin raised an eyebrow and said, "With Feng's involvement, combined with R4's abilities and nearly a third of the Billionaires, that should be enough to handle most situations."
...
Under the deep sea, Xiaqiu lay there, waiting for Baroque Works to take action.
He had sniped two outgoing Vessels and defeated three others that had come here, devouring the Bounty Hunters aboard.
The three ships that arrived here had provided a considerable amount of Heat Flow from Baroque Works, equivalent to what Arlong provided.
Among these Bounty Hunters was a woman who could extend vines from her body to create a ship; she was undoubtedly a Senior Agent.
During his battles, he encountered a powerful man in armor whose strength was comparable to Crocboy; he was likely also a Senior Agent.
Xiaqiu was somewhat surprised that Crocodile directly sent a Senior Agent for support.
After all, Whiskey Peak was merely a forward base; its status was quite low for a Senior Agent.
However, considering it was four years ago and Crocodile's coup plan had just recently obtained its final piece and was beginning to be implemented,
it made sense that Baroque Works' strength was still in a period of development.
He sank the three ships himself, losing two Senior Agents in the process. The report would surely reach Crocodile, who would send stronger reinforcements to this location.
He wondered who would be sent next.
But no matter who it was, they would become his next meal.
Xiaqiu thought to himself as he quietly waited in the sea.
At that moment, a tremor rippled across the Surface of the Sea.
"Hmm?"
Xiaqiu slowly surfaced, gazing into the distance.
There, he spotted several Sea Vessels approaching—at least eight in total.
Among these eight ships, six bore the letter "B" on their hulls; these were vessels belonging to Baroque Works, specifically for Billionaires, with each ship accommodating ten Billionaires.
The other two ships were quite peculiar in design.
The first ship resembled an oddly shaped goose, its sails a vibrant pink adorned with a number, and its hull featured an outer wheel.
The second ship was relatively lower in height, resembling a forward-leaning pillar, with a black number 4 prominently displayed on its side.
These two ships were unmistakable.
The former was clearly Feng Kelei's Pirate Ship, while the latter belonged to Galdino's Pirate Ship.
However, right now, Feng Kelei was just an R, while Galdino was an R4.
They actually came.
The strength of these two individuals was formidable. Feng Kelei wouldn’t have a partner, but if Galdino brought one along, then the Senior Agent would have three people.
Sending three individuals here just for food seemed overly extravagant.
Moreover, it posed some trouble.
Although both Feng Kelei and Galdino were Devil Fruit Users, the latter possessed the Melting Fruit ability, and his Pirate Ship was partially made of wax.
Dealing with Feng Kelei would be easy; as long as he entered the water, he would lose his combat ability.
However, Galdino’s wax could float on the water's surface. Even if he fell into the water, he could remain above it, and the wax he produced could cause trouble for himself.
If the wax covered his limbs, he would have no hands to remove it, and using his tentacles would be difficult as well.
Furthermore, if his airways or gills were sealed off, the consequences would be dire.
Thus, dealing with Galdino required utmost caution.
In addition to that, there were six B Pirate Ships and at least sixty Billionaires.
With such numbers and the weapons on board, they could inflict harm on him.
So Xiaqiu watched as they drew closer without immediately launching an attack.
"Here they come, here they come! Seven or eight ships have appeared on the sea, all belonging to Baroque Studio!" a Bounty Hunter rushed into the bar.
"Baroque Works really hasn't abandoned us!" the group of Bounty Hunters cheered.
Their food supplies were running low, and they couldn't set sail; they could only rely on fishing by the shore, but it was futile.
Now that Baroque Works had sent someone, there was hope for salvation.
"Quick, go greet them!"
R8 stood up and was the first to head outside, with the other Bounty Hunters following closely behind.
They arrived at the shore, waiting quietly as the Pirate Ships approached one by one.
"R... R4."
R8 stared at the numbers on the Sea Vessel, his eyes wide with disbelief. "Two Senior Agents have actually come."
Moreover, there were too many ships arriving just to deliver food; there was no need for so many people.
A sense of foreboding surged within R8 as he watched the vessels draw closer, and he could only move forward to greet them.
"This is Whiskey Hill Town? This is my first time here," Feng Kelei exclaimed as he jumped off the ship, standing at the edge of the town with a look of keen interest on his face.
“Lord Feng Kelei,” r8 recognized him. Feng Kelei was the most famous figure in Baroque Works due to his unconventional nature.
“Are you the mayor here?” Feng Kelei stepped closer to r8, glaring at him.
“Y-yes, that’s correct.” r8's face was dotted with beads of sweat, clearly nervous.
Feng Kelei glanced around and said, “Where are the others? Where are the ambushers? Call them out.”
“What ambushers?” r8 looked taken aback.
Feng Kelei snorted and said, “Of course, you betrayed Baroque Works, colluding with others to kill r5 and Valentine's Day here.”
“I-I didn’t betray anyone,” r8 stammered, trembling in fear.
“r, the situation is not confirmed yet.” Galdino approached with a short, plump middle-aged woman. “r only has this possibility; it doesn’t necessarily mean he really betrayed Baroque Works.”
Feng Kelei raised both hands and spun around in place. “Then let’s investigate.”
“I-I really didn’t betray Baroque Works,” r8 insisted urgently.
“Is that so?”
Galdino moved beside him and placed a hand on his shoulder. In the next moment, countless streams of Wax Liquid emanated from Galdino's hand, spreading over r8’s body and wrapping around him.
“What’s happening?”
In an instant, r8 was enveloped. He flailed his arms, trying to push away the Wax Liquid, but the solidified substance was harder than steel, slowly encasing him and binding him tightly.
"I-I did not betray Baroque Works," r8 shouted loudly.
"Even if you didn't betray us, failing to gather food for a single town makes you no different from trash." Galdino looked at the wax liquid covering r8 and said, "According to r's orders, whether you're a traitor or not, you must die here."
With that, Galdino left, and r8 turned into a wax figure.
"Let's go find a place. The rest of you tell us what really happened. If you don't want to end up like him, then report honestly," Galdino said lightly.
"Y-yes," the Bounty Hunter from Whiskey Hill Town stammered in fear.
Galdino and Feng Kelei led the group into the town.
