Chapter Seventy-Three: High Jump in the Toilet
Run, run, run.
Behind Xiaqiu, several massive Sea Serpents were in pursuit, each measuring thirty to forty meters in length, their bodies thick and serpentine like long dragons.
If one of those Sea Serpents managed to bite, the venom would surely be overwhelming.
Xiaqiu was much faster than the Sea Serpents, quickly creating distance and leaving them behind.
The serpents were not swift underwater and could not catch up to Xiaqiu.
One by one, the Sea Serpents fell behind and then turned back.
Panting.
Xiaqiu slowed down, still feeling a lingering fear.
Having already hunted four, it was surprising that these giant Sea Serpents had chased after him for so long; it seemed they were quite annoyed by his presence.
Each Sea Serpent he hunted surpassed all the Azure Hawks' prey combined.
Of course, the Azure Hawks did not solely rely on Sea Serpents for food; they also hunted fish.
Sometimes, Azure Hawks would fall victim to Sea Serpents, but overall, both species maintained a balance.
However, with Xiaqiu's involvement, the losses for the Sea Serpents had become significant.
Dinner is served, dinner is served.
Xiaqiu began to eat the Sea Serpent, and after finishing, Heat Flow appeared.
With a snap, Xiaqiu lost two teeth from the first layer and four from the second layer, while new teeth emerged behind them.
It was time for a change of teeth.
The Sea Serpent's fangs had special venom ducts, so the original teeth were no longer usable.
Xiaqiu's outermost layer consisted of large, sharp fangs similar to those of a Tiger Fish, thick and spaced apart.
The second to fourth layers resembled shark teeth, lined up in rows, relatively sharp but weaker.
On either side were molars used for grinding other fish.
Xiaqiu had only lost two sharp fangs; the remaining ones were still sufficient for attacking enemies.
Sensing the changes in its teeth, Xiaqiu knew it would not be long before it grew venomous fangs.
In the time that followed, Xiaqiu continued to hunt, its teeth gradually growing in.
However, the Sea Serpent had become wise; it no longer attacked Xiaqiu proactively.
As soon as Xiaqiu arrived there, a massive Sea Serpent would appear.
What should I do?
Xiaqiu felt the enormous Sea Serpent chasing from behind, yet had not captured a single one, sensing trouble.
At this rate, I won't be able to evolve venomous fangs.
Xiaqiu ran towards the distance, and the Sea Serpents behind fell behind, stopping their pursuit.
But there was still one.
Xiaqiu noticed that one Sea Serpent had pursued for a while, measuring about thirty meters long and over two meters in diameter.
It was extremely long and very thick.
Aside from a few species of Python that can reach a length-to-diameter ratio of fifteen to one, most snakes have a ratio below twenty to one. Some thinner ones can even reach thirty to one.
This Sea Serpent's ratio was around twenty, making it relatively stout for a snake.
Such a giant snake would have a significant amount of venom. Given my current resistance to toxins, I should be able to handle one, though it might take some time.
I will hunt it.
Xiaqiu did not continue to flee but instead turned and charged forward.
The Sea Serpent chased for a while, but as Xiaqiu grew increasingly distant, it decided to stop and head back.
However, the next moment, Xiaqiu arrived with tremendous force. The Sea Serpent spotted Xiaqiu and immediately shot towards it.
Not only that, but the returning Sea Serpent also sensed Xiaqiu and turned around, charging in this direction.
Yet Xiaqiu did not attack immediately; instead, it swam to the right of the Sea Serpent, maintaining a distance of four to five meters.
Whoosh.
The Sea Serpent transformed into a massive shadow, lunging through the water towards Xiaqiu, aiming to bite at its side, just behind the gill cover.
But as Xiaqiu reached a level distance with the Sea Serpent, it executed a graceful maneuver and opened its mouth wide.
Snap.
Xiaqiu's jaws clamped down on the body just behind the head of the Sea Serpent. Here, the diameter of the serpent's body was relatively smaller compared to its midsection, about seven or eight inches wide—much narrower than Xiaqiu's maximum jaw span.
Xiaqiu's teeth pierced through the Sea Serpent's scales, which were sparse and unable to withstand Xiaqiu's grip.
Once it had bitten down on the Sea Serpent, Xiaqiu immediately began to thrash its body slightly and swam away into the distance.
At that moment, the other Sea Serpents finally turned around and began to chase after them.
But Xiaqiu was already swimming farther away; even while holding onto one Sea Serpent, it was still faster than the others.
The snake was relatively light. The Guinness World Records Python measured about fifteen meters long and weighed less than a thousand pounds, roughly a third of the weight of a sperm whale of the same length.
The Sea Serpent required a large internal space for its lungs to store gas, making it even lighter.
This particular Sea Serpent was thirty meters long and weighed under four tons.
With such weight, Xiaqiu could still move forward while biting onto it.
The Sea Serpent struggled continuously but could not escape its confinement. It attempted to attack Xiaqiu but couldn't turn its head.
It tried to coil around Xiaqiu, but due to the immense force, it couldn't manage to wrap itself around Xiaqiu at all.
Xiaqiu bit down on it and swam off into the distance, only stopping when the Sea Serpent ceased its pursuit.
The struggle continued.
The Sea Serpent was not dead; its first row of teeth measured about thirty centimeters long, insufficient to kill it with a single bite.
Yet, Xiaqiu dared not let go, fearing that if it released the Sea Serpent, it might retaliate.
All it could do was wear it down.
Xiaqiu held tightly onto the Sea Serpent, not daring to loosen its grip.
At that moment, Moo Moo swam over and, seeing the thrashing Sea Serpent, took a bite at it.
Crunch, crunch.
Moo Moo bit into the Sea Serpent's body, damaging its lungs before severing it completely.
Xiaqiu watched as the Sea Serpent slowly calmed down, feeling relieved and loosening its grip.
The Sea Serpent was dead, but Xiaqiu did not relax; instead, it lunged for the serpent's head.
Even after being decapitated, the head could still move for a while.
Xiaqiu crushed the head and was about to feast when it glanced at Moo Moo in the distance, who was gnawing on the serpent's body.
You can't eat that.
Xiaqiu immediately floated up and flipped Moo Moo away, revealing its sharp teeth.
This Sea Serpent weighed less than four tons; it could easily fill Xiaqiu's belly for a meal.
If it were any other food, it might have shared some with Moo Moo.
But if Xiaqiu wanted to evolve venomous fangs, how could it let Moo Moo have any?
It had to be a little selfish.
Xiaqiu fiercely guarded the Sea Serpent, not allowing Moo Moo to come near.
"That's so unfair."
Meanwhile, Moo Moo looked at Xiaqiu with a deeply aggrieved expression, tears already welling up in its eyes.
I helped you kill it, and you won't even let me have a bite.
You, you're being too unreasonable.
Moo Moo turned its back, lying there motionless.
Hey, hey.
After finishing off the Sea Serpent, Xiaqiu patted Moo Moo with its Pectoral Fin. Moo Moo glanced at Xiaqiu but turned its head away.
I absolutely won't acknowledge you.
At least I can't forgive you just like that.
You need to apologize first.
Moo Moo thought to itself, lying there with its backside facing Xiaqiu, hoping for an apology.
But then it felt a vibration behind it; Xiaqiu was moving away.
Huh?
Moo Moo straightened up and turned his head, noticing that Xiaqiu's figure had disappeared into the distance.
What happened?
The boss left.
Did he leave because I ignored him?
What should I do now?
Moo Moo felt a bit anxious inside, unsure of what to do. Was what he did earlier wrong?
For a long time, it had always been his older brother who hunted while he ate the leftovers. He had never stopped him and even brought food specifically for him.
Now that he wouldn’t let him eat, was there another reason behind it?
As Moo Moo pondered, time ticked by, and his anxiety grew stronger with each passing second.
No, no.
Moo Moo straightened up again, just as he was about to stand tall when he spotted Xiaqiu appearing in the distance. Not only that, but Xiaqiu also had a huge fish in his mouth.
Hmm?
Moo Moo slowly approached as Xiaqiu came closer and placed the fish right in front of him.
The Sea Serpent cannot be given to you, but since you helped me, I will catch a fish for you to eat.
Xiaqiu presented the sea fish in front of Moo Moo.
Moo Moo was momentarily taken aback upon seeing the fish.
For me?
Not only did he not leave, but he also caught a sea fish for me?
It seems he has a reason for not letting himself eat the serpent.
Moo Moo glanced at Xiaqiu, lowered his head, and began to gnaw on the sea fish.
I forgive you.
