Chapter Sixty-Six: Departure
In Cocoa West Village, in Orange Grove.
Clang.
Marcel's figure staggered backward, his feet leaving two marks on the ground. In the moment the force dissipated, Marcel suddenly knelt down.
"I... I have lost."
Marcel said with a reluctant expression.
"You are still no match for me," Eight replied, looking at Marcel.
Marcel glanced at Eight and said, "But this time, I used two knives to defeat myself. It seems I have made some progress."
"Two knives?"
Eight scoffed and said, "Look at your clothes."
"Huh?"
Marcel lowered his head and looked at his clothes, noticing two cuts on them.
"When did this happen?"
Marcel looked at the cut, surprised that he hadn't noticed it or felt anything.
"You still have a long way to go!" Eight said with a smile.
Marcel replied, frustrated, "Have I really not changed at all over the years?"
"Of course not."
Eight's smile faded as he continued, "It's just that I've been improving too, and after switching knives, my strength has increased significantly."
He had replaced his three-hundred-kilogram knife with one that weighed only ten kilograms, allowing him to strike much faster and enhancing his overall power.
However, the change in weight and the resulting shift in combat style took him half a year to adapt to.
"Since you're that strong, let's go find that sea fish then," Nami said as she approached, her tone casual.
"I... I'm not a match for it."
Eight immediately lowered his head. He didn't believe his growth was enough to match Arlong's strength.
But even with Arlong on his side, they still wouldn't be able to take on that sea fish.
"But I will definitely defeat him," Bachara said, placing his hands on his waist.
"Go cook," Nami replied tersely.
"Yes," Bachi immediately ran into the house and got busy.
Bachi was quite skilled in cooking, particularly in grilling meat and preparing octopus. He had now taken up learning culinary skills and was doing well.
Cooking had become Bachi's job.
"Brother Marcel, your clothes are torn. Take them off, and I'll help you mend them," Nokigao said softly as she stood beside Marcel.
"Isn't that too much trouble for you, Nokigao?" Marcel replied, feeling a bit embarrassed.
Nokigao shook her head and said, "Not at all."
"Alright, thank you."
Marcel took off his shirt and handed it to Nokigao.
After receiving it, Nokigao walked toward the house. As she passed by Nami, Nami smiled and asked, "Sister, when did you learn to sew?"
"I've already learned it."
Nokigao shot a glare at Nami as she entered the house. Nami watched her retreating figure and smiled lightly.
"It has already been six months."
Nami turned her head to gaze at the azure sky. It had been six months since Arlong's death, yet she couldn't shake off a sense of boredom.
Life was peaceful and warm, but it wasn't what she desired.
She longed to be out at sea again, continuing to chart the waters.
...
That night, the bright moonlight cast down upon the Surface of the Sea, leaving a shimmering glow.
The ocean at night was deep and terrifying. Beneath the Surface of the Sea, two dark figures swam into the distance—one was a massive fish, and the other was a giant Manatee.
"Target: Grand Line."
The black fish was Xiaqiu, who had just finished off a Navy admiral. Having healed from his injuries, he was now swimming toward Reverse Mountain.
To the west, in the southern region.
Xiaqiu left Loguetown, sailing southwest towards the Grand Line, avoiding the Doldrums where the Sea Kings roamed—massive creatures that could easily swallow him whole.
Any one of them was hundreds of meters long, making a twenty-meter ship look like a mere toy beneath their towering heads.
His destination was Reverse Mountain, located to the west, requiring him to sail a considerable distance in that direction. From Reverse Mountain to the Grand Line, he would need to navigate through the East Blue's Waterway, slightly southward.
Beneath Reverse Mountain stood a lighthouse that illuminated the surrounding waters and provided guidance. However, he had yet to spot it.
Xiaqiu opened his mouth, releasing sound waves to constantly scan for danger.
In the Doldrums, there was no wind, and the currents were stagnant; it felt like two entirely different worlds compared to the East Blue and the Grand Line.
When Luffy sailed towards Reverse Mountain on the Merry, one moment he was battling stormy seas, and the next he found himself basking in sunshine with calm waters.
Unaware of his exact position in the Doldrums, Xiaqiu found it difficult to sense the wind above the water's surface; he could only rely on changes in the currents for navigation.
But by the time he detected any shift in the currents, he would already be deep within the Doldrums.
Xiaqiu continuously emitted sound waves as it moved forward slowly.
After traveling a distance, Xiaqiu suddenly sensed that the surrounding currents of the sea had gradually come to a halt, until everything was still.
What is this?
Xiaqiu immediately stopped its movement.
However, Moo Moo seemed oblivious and continued to charge ahead. Seeing this, Xiaqiu felt anxious but dared not rush after it; instead, it released more sound waves.
As Xiaqiu observed, alongside Moo Moo's advance, several figures began to rise slowly from the depths of the vast ocean.
They were the Sea Kings.
The Sea Kings were extremely sensitive; even the presence of Luffy's Merry had attracted nearly ten of them.
Both Xiaqiu and Moo Moo were much larger than Merry, causing even greater disturbances in the water.
There was enough time.
Xiaqiu accelerated and quickly caught up with Moo Moo, positioning itself in front of him.
"Hmm?"
Moo Moo tilted his head, looking at Xiaqiu in confusion.
Xiaqiu nudged him and swam in the direction away from the Doldrums.
Oh.
Moo Moo understood; this was a signal to leave. He followed closely behind Xiaqiu, moving toward the distance.
But at that moment, the Sea Kings began to rise, creating a tremendous tremor.
Xiaqiu quickened his pace, and Moo Moo felt the vibrations, jolting him to swim faster behind Xiaqiu.
Boom.
As Xiaqiu and Moo Moo entered the East Sea, several massive figures slowly emerged behind them, the shortest being two hundred meters, with some towering over a thousand meters.
Hurry, hurry.
The two did not stop but swam faster.
Xiaqiu noticed that the Sea Kings had pursued them for a while before stopping and gradually retreating.
Whew.
Xiaqiu let out a breath, finally slowing down, and Moo Moo came to a stop as well, looking somewhat shaken.
They had been running around wildly.
Xiaqiu dashed in front of Moo Moo and slapped him across the face with Pectoral Fin.
Moo Moo knew he had made a mistake, lowering his head and not daring to resist.
"Let's go."
Xiaqiu gave him a few more slaps, swiping his tail fin across Moo Moo's face before swimming ahead.
Moo Moo lifted his head, shook it slightly, and hurriedly followed.
After swimming for a while, the light grew dimmer, forcing them to surface and reveal the Water Surface.
As the pressure in the water decreased, oxygen was pushed out of the Water Surface. Xiaqiu felt the filtered oxygen weaken and surfaced, gasping for air.
Crack!
Not far away, a bolt of lightning struck the Surface of the Sea.
In the distance, the sky was overcast with dark clouds, and a fierce wind whipped up torrential rain that fell from afar.
In the torrential rain, a faint light flickered in the distance.
It was the lighthouse.
Crack!
Not far away, a bolt of lightning struck the surface of the sea, and in that brief moment illuminated by the flash, Xiaqiu vaguely saw a massive shadow.
That was Reverse Mountain.
They had arrived.
Xiaqiu opened their mouth wide, filling their nostrils with air from their back, and charged into the howling wind.
