Chapter Thirty-Eight: The Struggle
Eight plunged into the ocean, six arms moving as he swam downward.
Eight had six arms resembling octopus tentacles, each tentacle lacking joints but covered in suction cups.
At the end of each tentacle was a human-like hand, though there were gaps between the fingers.
He moved his body cautiously, keeping an eye on his surroundings, trying to detect any signs of sharks, but nothing appeared.
Eight continued downward until he reached the seabed, observing his surroundings.
Nothing was there.
No sharks at all.
Had the sharks fled? Or was Nami lying?
Eight furrowed his brow, but just then, he felt a wave of vibrations; the tremors in the distance grew stronger. He looked toward the horizon as a figure loomed larger before him.
“A shark?”
Seeing the silhouette, Eight instinctively thought it was a shark, but as the shadow drew closer, his eyes narrowed slightly.
“It's so big.”
This was no shark measuring just over ten meters; this fish not only didn’t resemble a shark but was over thirty meters long.
Upon seeing it, Eight's expression grew serious.
"Is it really him?"
Xiaqiu lay quietly at the bottom of the sea, positioned a good distance from the harbor. Hidden behind a protruding rock, part of his body was concealed as he pressed against the seabed, observing the waters beneath the distant port.
From this vantage point, he could ensure that he would spot any enemies coming down from the harbor first. The protruding rocks would obscure part of their view, making it unlikely for them to notice what lay behind.
Once he caught the signal of the Fishman descending, Xiaqiu paused for a moment before charging toward him.
In that instant, he caught sight of his appearance.
Six tentacle-like arms—an unmistakable feature.
It was indeed Hachi, the Officer of the Arlong Pirate Crew.
His strength was formidable; he could move reefs underwater and stir up currents to create whirlpools, causing ships to crash into them.
He could wield six three-hundred-kilogram swords with such power that only Arlong surpassed him within the Arlong Pirate Crew.
Although Xiaqiu's own strength far exceeded this level, he knew he had to summon all his energy, as Hachi's power was enough to inflict harm on him.
However, Xiaqiu did not hesitate and continued to charge forward.
Caught off guard by the ambush, Hachi would find it difficult to respond appropriately.
He couldn't afford to let Hachi escape.
Boom.
Xiaqiu transformed into a shadow and lunged forward, opening his mouth wide to bite down on his opponent.
Whoosh.
In the moment just before Xiaqiu was about to bite him, Eight suddenly kicked forward with his two legs and retreated swiftly, narrowly avoiding Xiaqiu's attack.
The massive Fish Body swept past Eight's side, and he snorted coldly, turning to face the Fish Body. Six of his arms clenched into fists and launched a direct assault.
Octopus Fist.
Six fists transformed into streaks of afterimages, striking towards Xiaqiu's body.
However, at the moment Xiaqiu missed the bite, it reacted quickly, swinging sharply to the left and crashing into Eight.
Bang, bang, bang, bang...
Eight's fists struck Xiaqiu's body with a muffled sound, shattering its scales.
Yet, the momentum of Xiaqiu's charge did not diminish significantly; its massive form collided directly with Eight after the punches landed.
Boom.
Eight raised his six arms in front of him but was still hit, sending him flying backward.
"What immense power."
The Eight God felt the impact intensely but managed to stabilize himself. Aside from some injuries to his arms, he did not suffer significant damage.
His arms lacked bones; they bent and shielded him as a buffer, absorbing part of the force.
At the same time, he curled his body up, using Xiaqiu's strength to propel himself far away without resistance. The force acting on him was not too great.
Xiaqiu missed the strike and continued to move upward and to the left, swinging its body as its tail fin lashed out.
Here it comes again?
Seeing the tail fin coming, Eight didn't try to withstand it. With a push of his arms and legs, he retreated a short distance like an octopus.
Whoosh.
The tail fin brushed past Eight by mere inches.
But in that fleeting moment, Eight extended four of his hands and grabbed hold of Xiaqiu's tail fin, propelling himself forward to climb onto Xiaqiu's body.
Xiaqiu felt the weight on its tail and lashed out again.
However, Eight's tentacles were tightly wrapped around Xiaqiu's tail, with two of them pressed flat against the scales at the base. Although the scales were smooth, the suction cups were firmly attached.
There was no way to shake him off.
Eight climbed up along Xiaqiu's body, staying close to avoid being bitten or struck.
But just then, Eight suddenly noticed the rocky cliff looming larger in front of him.
Xiaqiu charged directly toward the cliff while flicking its tail to slam into it.
Damn it.
Watching the wall rapidly approaching, Eight had no choice but to release his grip on Xiaqiu. With six arms pressing against Xiaqiu's body, he pushed off forcefully and shot upward.
At that moment, Xiaqiu flipped downward. Using Xiaqiu's momentum combined with his own strength, Eight narrowly avoided being hit by Xiaqiu's fish body.
Bang.
Xiaqiu's body slammed against the cliff, and the rocks immediately shattered, tumbling down.
It hurt.
Xiaqiu felt a sharp pain at the point of impact, where the scales had been crushed, and the muscles in his body were damaged, causing him to momentarily freeze.
"What a chance."
Seeing this, Eight turned around, six hands clenched into fists, arms contracting as he struck out.
Octopus Ball Fist.
Six fists transformed into countless shadows, attacking Xiaqiu's back.
Bang, bang, bang, bang...
In an instant, Xiaqiu was hit by more than a dozen punches. The area between his two dorsal fins on his back was battered; the hard spines shattered, skin ruptured, and muscles tore apart.
Fortunately, this was his back, where the fish bones converged to form a massive skeletal structure that blocked Eight's punches.
Puff puff.
Two of Eight's tentacle fists exploded upon impact, blood spraying everywhere, and even two fingers snapped off?
Hmm?
Eight paused slightly, feeling as if he had struck something sharp. Did he have spikes on him?
The spikes were the result of Xiaqiu's feeding on Tuna, but due to its large size, the amount of Tuna it consumed was limited, resulting in only a few spikes located between its two dorsal fins.
Xiaqiu had a broad back. Eighty-six hands struck out in two rounds, landing a dozen punches, but only two hit the spikes, rendering two hands useless.
The remaining strikes hit Xiaqiu's back, breaking against it as if hitting a wall, causing the arms to tremble with numbness.
At the same time, Xiaqiu's body began to descend rapidly.
In the moment it was struck, Xiaqiu regained control over its body, relaxing and allowing itself to sink while using the force of the blows to aid its descent.
Seeing Xiaqiu fall, Eight did not pursue. Instead, he glanced at his injured hands, shook his arms, and swam upward.
As Xiaqiu approached the sea floor, it swayed its body and swam off into the distance.
Both chose to call a truce and distanced themselves from the battlefield.
