Chapter Thirty-Three: Arrival
In the blink of an eye, four months had passed, and it was now July of the 151st year of the Sea Circle Calendar.
In the southern part of the island, in a rarely visited area, Xiaqiu quietly lingered beneath the water.
At this moment, Xiaqiu had been on the island for one year and five months. From a length of nearly eighteen meters, it had grown to thirty meters.
Its weight had increased from fifty tons to around one hundred eighty tons.
With its weight gain, its strength had multiplied.
Four months ago, when it attacked the Pirate Ship, a single strike was enough to break the keel, creating a large crack that caused the Pirate Ship to sink.
If it hadn't been for the need to force the pirates into the water, one blow would have shattered the vessel.
Xiaqiu's sonar system had also improved; it had hunted dolphins again, increasing its sensitivity to a level comparable to that of dolphins.
In addition, Xiaqiu had preyed upon several whales that came nearby, broadening its sonar frequency range. It could now emit lower frequency sound waves, significantly extending its detection range.
Within a distance of two thousand meters, Xiaqiu could detect objects over twenty meters in size.
This enhancement allowed Xiaqiu to anticipate attacks from larger creatures to some extent.
As a result, Xiaqiu felt much safer.
During this past year, Xiaqiu had not faced any threats and had spent its time in peaceful existence, gradually growing stronger.
Life was dull.
All that could be done was to eat and rest day after day.
There was no one to communicate with, living alone in solitude.
For Xiaqiu, this was a tremendous torment.
If it weren't for the constant urge to eat driving him, he would have long since reached his breaking point.
He was hungry again.
With a sigh, Xiaqiu left his resting spot and swam off into the distance.
He emitted sound waves, exploring the creatures far away.
Xiaqiu's appetite now required about three tons of food per meal, needing fish that were over ten meters in length.
Thus, he ignored the fish around him that measured only seven or eight meters and continued swimming further away.
"Six hundred meters away."
Xiaqiu locked onto a direction and detected a fish measuring twelve meters long, so he charged straight toward it.
Xiaqiu released low-frequency sound waves; these waves traveled farther, capable of detecting up to two thousand meters.
Xiaqiu continuously locked onto its target's position and charged forward until it was only fifty meters away.
In the next moment, the fish swiftly distanced itself.
Had it been detected?
Xiaqiu speculated that the creature also possessed some form of perception, sensing the vibrations caused by its approach and dodging in advance.
However, sensing did not equate to escaping.
Xiaqiu accelerated once more, racing toward the target.
The distance between them closed at a visible speed. At a depth of one hundred meters underwater, it was difficult for Xiaqiu to see the creature from afar. It wasn't until it was ten meters away that Xiaqiu could vaguely make out the figure of its target.
It was a Whale Shark.
The Whale Shark is the largest shark species, not a whale. It has five pairs of gills and over three hundred rows of teeth on its ten filter plates.
Adult Whale Sharks typically measure between nine to twelve meters in length, with some reaching over twenty meters.
Whale Sharks are relatively gentle and rarely attack humans. In fact, when encountering divers, they often turn their bodies to allow the divers to help clean their bellies.
Moreover, Whale Sharks serve as one of the best pieces of evidence that not all sharks are aggressive towards humans.
Whale Sharks primarily feed through filter feeding, consuming a diet mainly consisting of plankton, algae, krill, and small fish such as sardines, anchovies, Tuna, and mackerel.
The Whale Shark measured twelve meters in length and weighed around four tons, which was enough for Xiaqiu to have a hearty meal.
Xiaqiu hurriedly pursued, getting closer and closer. Just as it was about to bite down, the sound waves it emitted bounced back, revealing another figure.
This figure was at least three kilometers away, over ten meters long, and extremely large.
What on earth is that?
Xiaqiu was startled, momentarily pausing, allowing the Whale Shark to slip away and swim off into the distance.
So big.
The shape revealed by the echo was unprecedentedly massive; it wasn't just long but also very tall.
Its height was at least half of its length.
Not a fish.
Fish proportions wouldn't be like this.
What exactly is it?
Xiaqiu slowly approached the entity. The closer it got, the clearer its perception became.
The length was at least sixty meters, with a height between thirty to forty meters.
The enormous creature made Xiaqiu tremble with fear.
It was too big.
At least four times his weight.
Xiaqiu had no idea what it was, but based on its size, he could only conclude that it resembled a Sea Lion.
Was it a Sea Beast?
Xiaqiu made a guess but didn’t dare to approach any closer, fearing he might disturb it.
Although Xiaqiu possessed great strength and felt confident in confronting a sea creature around fifty meters long, this one was different. It measured sixty meters in length, stood over thirty meters tall, and weighed at least four times more than him.
Such a colossal being surpassed him in sheer power.
Relying solely on his own abilities, he knew he couldn’t win a fight.
But the truth was, there was no need for a battle.
He didn’t have a hundred percent chance of victory and certainly couldn’t kill the creature without sustaining injuries himself.
Moreover, it wasn’t even his target for feeding. Killing it would only provide a meal, and the remaining carcass would merely benefit other sea creatures.
There was danger; it wasn't a target for feeding, and there was no need to provoke it. It was better to keep a distance.
Thinking this, Xiaqiu remained still, observing the other party's movements.
It left.
The massive creature lingered for a moment before moving away into the distance, disappearing from the detection range.
Xiaqiu let out a breath, feeling the tension in her heart ease slightly.
But at the same time, she felt a bit of fear. The position where the Sea Beast had just been was only five kilometers away from her habitat.
That was almost within her usual activity range.
If she hadn't used echolocation and had encountered it, a fierce battle would have been unavoidable.
The water here was quite deep, capable of accommodating gigantic marine creatures, so it was likely that such monsters could appear again.
She needed to be more cautious in the future.
Xiaqiu thought this as she quietly waited, and after a while, she began to hunt.
...
In the East Sea, on a massive Pirate Ship, several Fishmen stood on the deck. One Fishman, with blue skin and a serrated long nose, looked out over the sea before him, opened his arms wide, and laughed heartily, "We've finally arrived in the East Sea."
"Arlong, do you want to start from here?" Beside him, a majestic Fishman flashed with enthusiasm in his eyes. "That's right, let's start from here." Arlong showed a ferocious look and said: "Using the East China Sea as the starting point, we will rule this sea area, enslave mankind, and build a powerful Fish-Man Empire." "Yes, but We promised Jinbeiboss not to harm humans." Behind Arlong, an Octopus Fishman with six tentacles couldn't help but say. "Jinbei?" Arlong snorted coldly and said with a gloomy face: "How could I listen to a guy like Jinbei who is willing to surrender to humans." At this point, Arlong opened his mouth, revealing a ferocious expression. Smiling, he said: "Besides, I am not hurting humans, I am just returning the pain humans have given Fishman to them."
