Chapter Twenty-Nine: Dolphins
There were about a dozen dolphins, the longest reaching around seven meters, while the shortest measured over three meters.
They were quite large.
A seven-meter-long dolphin is considered quite big within the dolphin family.
Aside from the Orca and False Killer Whale, very few dolphins can grow to such sizes.
However, the dolphins before them had medium-length beaks and prominent foreheads; they were not Orcas but resembled Bottlenose Dolphins.
On Earth, Bottlenose Dolphins typically reach a maximum length of about two and a half meters, making it impossible for them to grow this large.
Yet in this world, there existed creatures larger than islands, such as the Island Whale, and others that could devour islands like the Island Eater. Even an elephant's back could support an entire nation.
Seeing such dolphins did not surprise Xiaqiu.
Dolphins are among the most intelligent animals in the ocean. In addition to them, other intelligent creatures include cephalopods like Octopuses and Squids.
Dolphins have a remarkably large brain-to-body ratio, with many deep cerebral folds and numerous brain cells.
Most importantly, they possess an advanced echolocation system.
They can emit sound waves and use echolocation to locate their targets.
Moreover, dolphins have a high sensitivity in their echolocation abilities, making them the most sensitive mammals within the order Cetacea.
They can detect metal wires with a diameter of several meters and nylon ropes with a diameter of one, distinguishing between two signals in the ps time, and they can sense schools of fish hundreds of meters away.
At the same time, their sonar possesses powerful discernment abilities, capable of differentiating between various fish species, different materials, and even distinguishing their own echo from the echoes replayed by humans.
Moreover, their sonar has the capacity for emotional expression, allowing them to communicate with each other through their sonar system.
What Xiaqiu desired was precisely this sonar system.
Their vision far surpassed that of sea fish, but as their hunting range expanded into deeper waters where light was dim, it became difficult to see the surroundings clearly.
However, if they possessed a sonar system, they could accurately capture prey and evade enemies.
Their ability to perceive vibrations required significant intensity; the greater the vibration, the clearer their perception.

They needed a more advanced detection system.

But Xiaqiu was different.
Xiaqiu possessed immense power within its body; its fins were large, and its muscular build far surpassed that of other fish of similar size.
This resulted in an extraordinary speed that could rival the fastest sharks, like the Great White Shark, reaching levels of up to forty-five kilometers per hour.
Whoosh.
Xiaqiu swiftly closed in on the group of dolphins, continually reducing the distance between them.
Faster, faster.
Xiaqiu approached the dolphins and soon found itself right behind them.
Faced with Xiaqiu's pursuit, the dolphins suddenly scattered, swimming off into the distance.
Were they trying to escape by splitting up?
Xiaqiu continued to chase, but soon realized that the dolphins were not fleeing. After creating some distance, they maintained a constant pace alongside him.
Was he supposed to attack one of the dolphins while allowing the others to escape?
Xiaqiu closed the nictitating membrane of his eyes and charged at one dolphin, which surged forward. Xiaqiu pushed himself to catch up.
However, just as he was only two or three meters behind, he suddenly found himself surrounded by dolphins.
Others had positioned themselves beside him and behind him, enclosing him within their ranks.
What was happening?
Xiaqiu felt a jolt of surprise, and in the next moment, these dolphins were rushing toward him.
Were they trying to ram into him?
Did they mistake him for a shark?
Although dolphins were generally larger than sharks, they were not afraid of them.
Except for orcas, other dolphin pods had significant fighting capabilities when encountering sharks.
With their speed, as long as it wasn't a Great White Shark, most sharks could be easily evaded.
Even when faced with sharks, they would charge together and drive them away.
Generally, sharks do not actively attack dolphins, as it is not worth the risk. Occasionally, a shark might attack and manage to eat one, but it would soon be driven away.
However, if it is the big brother among dolphins, the Orca, then it becomes a killer of sharks.
In one-on-one or group confrontations, Orcas are not inferior to sharks.
Orcas possess immense strength, sharp teeth, and abundant intelligence.
When an Orca attacks a shark, it can flip the shark over, exposing its belly, which may cause the shark to enter a state of rigidity.
Some Orcas even target the shark's heart, causing it to stop suddenly.
More importantly, Orcas can even perform a "karate move," using their tails to stir up the water and create a whirlpool that forces the shark to rise to the surface. Then, they can rotate their bodies and strike down on their enemy with their tails in a manner similar to a karate chop, potentially stunning the shark.
But I am not an ordinary shark.
My massive size, hard scales, and thick muscles make it impossible for them to simply knock me away.
Xiaqiu disregarded everything and swam fiercely forward, biting down on a dolphin.
Crunch.
Xiaqiu swallowed the dolphin whole and crushed it in his jaws.
In that moment of biting down, the remaining dolphins collided with Xiaqiu's body.
Bang, bang, bang, bang.
Xiaqiu felt a series of forces coming from above on the right side, while the dolphins on the left began to strike at the lower right.
One was moving upward, the other downward, forcing itself to flip over.
Truly clever.
The dolphins could communicate through their sonar system, coordinating their tactics.
Surrounding, crossing, and charging were all within their capabilities.
Among them, the Orcas could even use themselves as bait, rushing onto the shallow waters to attract Sea Lions and Seals. Once they approached, the other Orcas would launch their attack.
Under their impacts, Xiaqiu's form swayed slightly. Although their strength was insufficient to topple Xiaqiu, it did hinder its movements.
But at that moment, Xiaqiu spun in the direction of the dolphins' charge.

Its massive body suddenly slammed down during their second impact, and the Pectoral Fin followed the rotation, striking down fiercely.

The dolphin on the left collided with the one below, crushing it beneath itself.

Its Pectoral Fin struck another dolphin, knocking it out cold.
Then Xiaqiu turned its body and bit down on the dolphin to its left. In the moment of turning, it swung its powerful tail, sweeping across and hitting two dolphins.
Bang, bang.
The dolphins were sent flying.
Meanwhile, Xiaqiu's jaws had already clamped down on one dolphin.
Crunch, crunch.
Xiaqiu feasted on the dolphin, and its struggles were utterly futile.
But in the next moment, five or six dolphins suddenly swam away into the distance, creating space between them.
Xiaqiu did not pursue them; it had already taken down enough dolphins to satisfy its hunger.
There was no need to chase after those that escaped.
Xiaqiu continued to gnaw on the dolphin, swallowing it whole as blood stained the surrounding waters red.
Having consumed seven or eight dolphins, Xiaqiu reached its maximum capacity, estimated to take over two hours to digest.
Xiaqiu leisurely returned to its habitat, waiting for the evolution to begin.

"What an impressive fish."
In the northwest direction of the island, on a massive rock, sat an Orange-Haired Girl. She held a telescope in her hand, focusing on the distant Surface of the Sea. She witnessed a gigantic Black Fish hunt a dolphin, diving into the ocean and disappearing from sight. Lowering the telescope, she revealed a look of confusion: "Is there such a large sea fish nearby? It swims quickly and is incredibly fierce. It's neither a shark nor a whale; what kind of creature is it?"
After pondering for a moment, the girl shook her head and glanced at the sky. "It's about to rain; it's time to head back."
She stood up, leaped off the rock, and ran towards home.
