Chapter Fourteen: Hunt
Boom, boom, boom.
The Cannonballs fired from the cannon soared towards the Surface of the Sea, creating splashes that erupted into towering columns of water.
Beneath the Surface of the Sea, a massive figure swam away into the distance, with Cannonballs falling around it, occasionally one would accurately strike its target.
However, under layers of seawater, the impact on Xiaqiu's body was already mitigated by its thick scales and muscles.
"Here it comes, here it comes."
As Moor and his companions swam not far, they spotted the Black Fish approaching. A pirate exclaimed in panic, "Lord Moor, what should we do?"
"Keep swimming."
Moor gritted his teeth and continued to swim towards the distance.
But how could their swimming speed compare to that of Xiaqiu?
Boom.
Suddenly, Xiaqiu surged close to the Water Surface, targeting one of the pirates. It tilted its body slightly and opened its massive jaws wide, lunging at him.
"No! Help!"
Faced with the gaping maw of Xiaqiu, the pirate froze in fear, floating on the Water Surface while shouting loudly.
Crunch.
The pirate was bitten by Xiaqiu, severed in one bite and swallowed whole. Then, as it raised its head again, it took another bite, devouring the upper half of his body entirely.
Afterward, Xiaqiu charged after them once more.
"Run!"
Seeing this scene, Moor gritted his teeth and swam toward the distance, with First Mate closely following behind.
The other pirates were also scrambling toward the island.
But they were too slow. Compared to Moor's speed and First Mate's pace, they gradually fell behind.
Boom.
They could clearly feel the pressure coming from behind them as the massive Black Fish continued to close in.
"Moor, help!" one pirate couldn't help but shout loudly into the distance.
What a joke.
If I save you, what will happen to me?
Besides, if you get eaten by it, you might buy me some time.
With this thought in mind, Moor seemed not to hear and frantically surged forward.
It's here.
The pirate felt the enormous body appear behind him, revealing a look of despair.
I'm done for.
Just as he thought this, with a loud crash, Xiaqiu's massive form collided with his body.
Crack.
The pirate's spine and ribs were completely shattered, and he was sent flying.
Yet Xiaqiu did not stop, charging straight ahead.
All the pirates blocking the path were knocked aside by Xiaqiu.
"He's not dead."
One pirate watched as Xiaqiu rushed past him, heading into the distance, and felt a sense of relief.
But in the next moment, a Cannonball landed right on top of his head.
Thud.
The massive Cannonball smashed into his skull, crushing it completely. His body slumped to the side, lifeless.
"How can he be so fast?"
Moor felt the figure chasing closely behind him and his expression darkened. "Why didn't he prey on those pirates?"
"Boss, he's coming for us!" the First Mate shouted loudly.
"Then you stay back and block him," Moor commanded.
The First Mate was momentarily stunned; he never expected this usually loyal leader, who always took the lead in battle and had even saved his life, would say something like that.
The First Mate gritted his teeth, gripping his long knife tightly, and turned to pounce on Xiaqiu.
"Tiger Bite."
With a swift motion of his right hand, the long knife sliced forward, resembling a fierce tiger opening its massive jaws to bite at the enemy.
Clang.
The blade struck Xiaqiu's forehead, cutting through the scales and hitting the bone beneath, leaving only a faint mark.
Bang.
In the next moment, Xiaqiu surged forward with tremendous force, knocking the long knife back and slamming it into the First Mate's body.
The First Mate's body jolted as if he had been hit by a ship, feeling several bones snap. The long knife slipped from his grasp.
Then Xiaqiu opened its gaping maw and bit down directly on him. Crunch. The First Mate's body was shattered, torn apart by seven rows of sharp teeth, reducing him to a pile of flesh.
Gulp.
Xiaqiu swallowed him whole and then turned to chase after Moor, intent on devouring him next.
Bang.
A cannonball struck Xiaqiu, causing its body to momentarily halt in pain. The area that was hit sustained significant damage.
Yet Xiaqiu endured the agony and continued its pursuit, swiftly closing in on the back of the Pirate Crew.
"Die for me."
Knowing he couldn't escape, Moor turned around, raising his right fist to deliver a powerful blow to Xiaqiu's head.
He had thrown away his Mace to move faster in the game.
Now he could only rely on his fists to attack.
Bang.
Moor's fist struck Xiaqiu's head, producing a dull thud.
Are you just tickling me?
In the next moment, Moor's upper body vanished into Xiaqiu's open mouth.
Xiaqiu swallowed Moor whole and did not turn back to devour the other pirates. Instead, it turned around, made a circle, and swam off into the distance.
The Heat Flow had already appeared, intense and overwhelming.
Moreover, it was injured.
I need to find a place to digest this, Xiaqiu thought as it swam further away.
...
“Moor and First Mate Vanny have been eaten.”
On the Porcupine Pirates' ship, the crew of pirates stared blankly into the distance.
They still couldn't accept that their captain and First Mate, along with several other pirates, had been attacked by a sea creature and that so many had died.
“What should we do now?” one pirate asked in confusion.
The Captain and the First Mate were dead; they were the two strongest among them, and now the remaining crew was at a loss for what to do.
"The First Mate is still in the water! Get him out and let's leave this place!" shouted another pirate.
They immediately sprang into action, rescuing their comrade from the water. Then, without a moment's hesitation, they turned the ship around and sailed away into the distance.
...
"Did the pirates get killed by a sea fish?"
On the island, the residents of Narl Village stood by the shore, their eyes fixed on the scene unfolding in the distance, their expressions a mix of surprise and intrigue.
Who would have thought that the pirates who had just taken money and supplies from them would meet their end at the jaws of a sea fish?
Seeing the pirates fleeing in panic towards them brought a sense of satisfaction to the villagers.
Was this karma?
"This sea fish looks somewhat familiar," one villager couldn't help but say.
"Though it has grown quite large, it resembles that sea fish from some time ago. Has it not left?" the village chief remarked.
"A sea fish of that size nearby is not a good sign," another villager interjected.
"A fish that big, limited by water depth and pressure, would find it hard to approach the island. It would only be seen near Harbor, and with limited food supply around, it wouldn't be able to sustain itself. That's why it disappeared from our vicinity," an elder, who had once been a fisherman, explained to the crowd. "It shouldn't come close to the island."
But a young man couldn't help but ask, "If it won't approach the island, then what about attacking Merchant Ships?"
"The Merchant Ship is so large; how could it possibly affect it?" another person waved dismissively.
The young man couldn't help but say, "But what if it continues to grow? In just a month and a half, it went from seven meters to fifteen or sixteen meters. If it keeps growing, I wonder if the fishing boats and merchant ships can withstand its destruction. At that time..."
They were eager to believe that this fish might not attack the vessels, but just moments ago, it had clearly launched an offensive against the pirates.
Its intention was to devour them.
At that point, would it attack nearby merchant ships?
If there were no fishing boats to catch fish, and no Merchant Association's merchant ships to purchase salt and deliver supplies, Narl Village would face a significant crisis.
One villager couldn't help but say, "We should report this to the Navy. Recently, they were hunting that sea creature in this area because of the colonel who was killed."
The village chief nodded and said, "It's almost time. I just sent the news about the pirate invasion using a Transponder Snail to Manro Town. They are already on their way. Once they arrive here, we will request them again to eliminate the sea creature."
