Chapter Thirteen: Evolution and Enhancement
Twelve pirates rowed two boats toward the Pirate Ship, with various items loaded on board.
“Captain Moor, this haul is a bit disappointing, much less than we expected,” the First Mate said with a frown.
“It’s enough. This village has too many able-bodied men, armed and protected by the Navy,” Moor replied, shaking his head.
“More importantly, no one got hurt. There's no need to engage them in battle,” he added.
Moor was a towering figure, muscular and strong, but not a brute. On the contrary, he had enough sense to lead the Pirate Crew and gather so many people under his command.
The two boats continued to row toward the Pirate Ship, slowly closing the distance.
However, just as they were about ten meters away from the Pirate Ship, someone suddenly shouted from the boat, “There’s a fish! A really big fish!”
“A fish?”
Moor paused for a moment, looking into the distance where a massive shadow was rapidly approaching.
“This is bad.”
Seeing this scene unfold, Moor grabbed his Mace and shouted, “Everyone, grab your weapons! Prepare the Cannons on the other boat and aim in that direction!”
Upon hearing Moor's command, everyone on both boats sprang into action.
But it was already too late.
Boom.
Xiaqiu had already locked onto them, charging from a distance and transforming into a blur as it collided with Moor's ship.
Crack.
The massive horns on its head, combined with immense force, shattered the ship into countless pieces.
Six pirates fell directly into the sea, struggling to regain their balance in the water.
"Damn it."
Moor quickly steadied himself, reaching out to grip a piece of the deck while drawing his Mace, remaining alert for the shadow's attack.
However, in the next moment, Xiaqiu did not continue its assault on them but instead changed direction.
Boom.
Another ship was smashed to pieces, and the pirates aboard fell into the water.
Crack, crack.
Xiaqiu opened its gaping maw and clamped down on a pirate—a young man who appeared exceptionally strong.
But before Xiaqiu's enormous jaws, he had no chance to react; his entire lower body up to his chest was engulfed by Xiaqiu's mouth.
Crunch.
The massive jaws closed, the sound of bones cracking echoed as blood spilled out, flesh being swallowed into the belly of Xiaqiu.
In just one bite, the pirate was reduced to nothing but his collarbone, neck, and head.
Splash.
Xiaqiu bit down again, devouring the pirate's head whole.
"What a huge sea creature," Captain Moor remarked, his expression darkening at the sight of its enormous size.
This sea creature was at least fifteen meters long, larger than a ship, and its massive head with sharp teeth was enough to instill fear.
The other pirates, seeing Xiaqiu's form, dared not attack and scattered in all directions, fleeing towards the Pirate Ship.
Crunch.
Xiaqiu bit down on another pirate, swallowing him whole.
"Don't run! Let's kill it together!"
Seeing this scene, Captain Moor picked up his mace and swung it fiercely at Xiaqiu while shouting, "Pirate Ship, fire! We can take it down!"
Boom.
The Mace struck Xiaqiu with a dull thud, causing the scales to dent inward.
Hmm?
Feeling the attack from behind, Xiaqiu paused for a moment, turned around, and immediately locked onto Moor.
The command was given; this was the leader of the Pirate Crew.
The strength was immense, rivaling that of the Navy officer he had once killed.
It seemed he was indeed the leader of this Pirate Crew.
He must be eliminated.
Xiaqiu's gaze sent a shiver down Moor's spine; the fish's eyes conveyed its intent so clearly.
Murder. Devour.
It transmitted its murderous intent back to itself.
Stay calm; there is a chance to win.
Gritting his teeth, Moor pulled out the Mace once more and charged at Xiaqiu.
Not only that, several pirates under Moor's command drew their swords and firearms, aiming at Xiaqiu.
Bang, bang.
Bullets and long swords struck Xiaqiu.
It hurt a little.
The areas where the bullets hit stung, but the pain was manageable.
The other blades that slashed at him didn’t hurt much; they didn’t even break his scales, except for one instance.
On his left side, a man with a headscarf managed to cut through his scales with a long sword, inflicting real damage.
This man was strong.
Xiaqiu remembered him as he swiftly devoured two pirates. Suddenly, he dove down, swimming toward the ocean floor, then veered toward the Pirate Ship.
Boom, boom, boom.
The cannons of the Pirate Ship roared loudly as cannonballs were fired, striking the water's surface.
Bang.
One cannonball hit Xiaqiu's body. The force was diminished by the water, leaving it less impactful than the previous strike from Langya List.
As Xiaqiu approached the Pirate Ship, the ship's structure prevented the cannons from hitting him. During this approach, he swallowed two pirates who attempted to flee.
Xiaqiu leaned against the Pirate Ship, quietly waiting.
You all have to return to the Pirate Ship; as soon as you do, I will kill you.
"I can't hit him."
The Pirate Ship continued to drift further away, but Xiaqiu remained tightly pressed against the side of the ship, making it impossible for the Cannon to target him.
As for throwing weapons, they couldn't inflict any damage at all.
"Damn it."
Moor watched Xiaqiu's movements and directly hid in a position where the Cannon of the Pirate Ship couldn't reach him.
Moreover, he held that position, meaning anyone who approached would inevitably be attacked by him.
"Boss, what should we do?"
The First Mate moved closer to Moor, glancing at the distant Black Fish with concern.
"This fish is very clever."
Moor snorted coldly and then said, "We need to move away from the Pirate Ship and head towards the island. The water there is shallower, and he won't be able to follow. Plus, if he dares to pursue us, the Pirate Ship can provide support with its Cannon."
"Understood."
The First Mate waved his hand, and the remaining pirates followed Moor as they made their way toward the island.
"Oh?"
Xiaqiu observed this scene with some surprise but did not pursue them.
He understood what these individuals were planning.
Remaining still, he quietly lurked while carefully watching.
Heat Flow gradually emerged within him, beginning to spread throughout his body.
It was weak.
This time, the Heat Flow was quite feeble; the Heat Flow provided by the four individuals was less than that of the Navy soldier he had killed.
Their Heat Flow was even less than what he would gain from consuming sea fish.
It seemed that people varied in strength; the Navy soldier was powerful and thus provided a greater Heat Flow, while these pirates were weak and offered much less.
It appeared that the Heat Flow provided by humans was related to their strength.
Ordinary humans offered less benefit to him.
If he were to consume, he needed to target the strong among humanity.
Of course, the energy provided by humans and that from sea fish are different.
The energy from sea fish contributes to the evolution and growth of the body. By consuming sea fish, one’s body can grow larger and develop certain special organs.
On the other hand, the energy provided by humans relates to physical strength, allowing one to possess greater power.
The two are distinct.
Xiaqiu speculated that this difference stems from the varying forms of power between humans and fish.
Most fish and marine creatures are assessed based on their size and body parts to determine strength.
A larger body size equates to greater strength, naturally making it more powerful.
Some fish with sharp teeth, pointed fins, or swift movements can also be formidable.
However, all of this is related to evolution.
In contrast, for humans, strength does not correlate directly with body size; even a slender physique can possess immense power.
Human strength can continue to enhance within the same species range, even when body size remains fixed.
It does not change in tandem with an increase in strength.
Even giants, who are large and strong, can still exhibit significant differences in strength despite having similar sizes.
Two types of Evolutionary Energy exist, akin to the differences between vertical and horizontal.
Thus, Xiaqiu distinguished between the two forms of energy. The energy from sea fish can provide growth and evolution, which Xiaqiu referred to as Evolutionary Energy.
The energy provided by humans was termed Enhanced Energy by Xiaqiu.
Evolutionary Energy, Enhanced Energy.
Both are essential.
So how could Xiaqiu allow the targeted enemy to escape?
With this thought in mind, Xiaqiu flicked her tail and transformed into a shadow, rushing toward the enemy attempting to flee.
