Chapter Nine: Breaking the Waves
"It’s already evening, and that sea monster hasn’t shown up yet. Is there really any danger? Could it be that the villagers made it all up?"
On the battleship, a sailor stood by the railing, unable to contain his thoughts.
Krumay shook his head and replied, "No, it’s not a fabrication. They specifically paid for this fish; it can’t be fake."
"There's a reward?"
Another sailor's eyes lit up, a hint of excitement on his face.
For these sailors from the branch, whose salaries were not particularly high, some extra cash could help ease their lives.
Hearing this, Krumay nodded. "The reward is about three hundred thousand Berries, which has already been handed over to Colonel Belial."
"Colonel Belial?"
One sailor shook his head and sighed. "Then it seems we won’t see a single Berry of that."
"Yeah, with it in the hands of the Colonel, there’s no way we’ll get a cut." Another sailor couldn’t help but chime in.
"Shut up."
Lieutenant Krumay heard this and secretly chuckled to himself, but his expression remained cold as he reprimanded them. "Don’t speak ill of the Colonel behind his back."
"Yes, yes."
The sailors quickly responded, though their expressions showed clear dissatisfaction.
"What is that?"
At that moment, a Sailor staring at the sea suddenly shouted.
Lieutenant Krumay and several Sailors rushed to the ship's railing, looking down to see a massive dark shadow slowly approaching in the water.
"That's huge."
One Sailor couldn't help but exclaim, "In this depth of water, I can't believe there's such a large fish. I wonder how it grew so big."
"What should we do?" another Sailor asked Lieutenant Krumay.
"Don't make any noise; wait for it to bite the hook."
Lieutenant Krumay quickly instructed, "Once it bites, immediately reel in the fishing net, and get the crossbows and Spear Guns ready to aim at it."
The Sailors on board prepared themselves, two crossbows and two Spear Guns aimed at the Black Fish below.
The enormous Black Fish slowly approached the bait, opening its massive mouth as if about to bite.
"It's on the hook!"
One Sailor exclaimed excitedly.
"Get ready."
Lieutenant Krumay raised his hand, and the other Sailors stood by, waiting for his command to attack the Black Fish.
But just then, the Black Fish suddenly began to retreat, closing its mouth.
"Um?"
The crowd was momentarily taken aback, unsure why it had not bitten down, choosing to retreat at the last moment.
"Captain, what should we do?" a soldier asked cautiously.
"Wait a moment."
Krumey still held onto hope, his eyes fixed on the Black Fish below, wishing for it to take the bait.
But as he watched the Black Fish turn away, preparing to leave, he couldn't afford to hesitate. He shouted, "Act now!"
With his command, the fishing net suddenly closed in from three sides, wrapping around the Black Fish.
Four sailors controlled two crossbows and two spear guns, all pulling their triggers simultaneously. The short arrows and long spears shot toward the Black Fish.
"You can't escape."
Krumey gritted his teeth.
But in the next moment, the Black Fish suddenly turned back, swimming toward the side of the boat. The net closed in just in time to avoid capture.
Its movements allowed it to dodge both a short and a long arrow.
Yet it was still hit.
With a thud.
Neither the crossbows nor the spear guns inflicted any damage on it.
Whoosh.
The Black Fish brushed against the hull, diving deeper and swimming away into the distance, escaping the area.
Lieutenant Krumay's expression darkened as he gritted his teeth and said, "Prepare the Cannon."
But in the next moment, a Sailor shouted, "It's swimming toward the ship; our Cannon can't reach it."
"Failure."
Seeing this scene, Krumay slammed his fist down in frustration, his expression filled with unwillingness.
It wouldn't take the bait, and it was the only exit from the fishing net. Even firing a Spear Gun or using a crossbow couldn't inflict any damage on it, and it had evaded the direction of the Cannon's attack.
In the Harbor, it was difficult to change course; they simply couldn't target it.
This fish was far too clever.
Damn it.
After working hard all morning to attract this fish, were they really going to let it escape just like that?
At that moment, a voice rang out, "Leave it to me."
As the voice sounded, a towering figure appeared not far away. He was bare-chested, his strong muscles radiating immense power, and he held a Harpoon in both hands.
"Colonel Belial."
Seeing him, Krumay couldn't help but exclaim.
The person who arrived was Colonel Belial. He rushed onto the ship, leaped high into the air, and jumped into the sea.
"Is Colonel Belial planning to dive in and catch something?" one sailor said, stunned.
"I wonder if he'll be successful," another sailor replied, a bit anxious.
...
There was some pain.
Underwater, Xiaqiu was struck by an arrow. Although it didn't penetrate the scales, the impact caused Xiaqiu to feel discomfort.
Xiaqiu pressed against the hull of the ship, diving down to avoid the gathered fishing nets and reached the seabed, intending to leave. However, a thought crossed its mind.
The naval battleship had cannons; if it swam out sideways, it would surely be hit by cannon fire.
Better to take a detour.
Xiaqiu immediately swam toward the ship, planning to take a longer route before leaving.
Whoosh.
Xiaqiu approached the ship, turned around, and swayed its body as it swam off into the distance.
But just then, with a loud splash, a sound echoed through the water.
"What was that noise?"
Xiaqiu looked back and saw a figure rapidly approaching.
What is this?
Xiaqiu saw a figure approaching, holding a Harpoon, gliding across the Water Surface towards him.
Is he trying to Hunt me in the sea?
But if he wants to catch me, he must know how large I am, right?
In other words, he knows my size and still dares to enter the water to hunt me.
I can't let my guard down.
Xiaqiu quickly swam away, moving his body towards the distance.
Splash.
However, Xiaqiu's turn delayed him, and the man closed in rapidly, matching Xiaqiu's speed and appearing above him on the Water Surface.
A shadow was cast down, sending a wave of ominous feelings through Xiaqiu.
At that moment, the man suddenly dove into the ocean, pushing off with his legs and accelerating again as he lunged towards Xiaqiu.
Whoosh.
Xiaqiu swayed his body and sped away into the distance.
At this speed underwater, the man couldn't possibly catch up.
But just as Xiaqiu was about to escape from his position, the figure raised an arm, and the right hand launched the Harpoon with great force.
Whoosh.
The Harpoon sliced through the distance between the two, crashing into the water and instantly piercing the tail of Xiaqiu.
Thud.
The Harpoon embedded itself where Xiaqiu's tail fin connected to its body, five steel spikes breaking through the scales, penetrating more than two inches deep.
"Ah!"
A surge of pain shot through, causing Xiaqiu to momentarily freeze. In the next moment, the assailant gripped the Harpoon lodged in Xiaqiu's body, pushed off with their legs, and surged forward again, raising their right arm to bring down another Harpoon.
This time, the target was Xiaqiu's back.
Sensing the approach, Xiaqiu hurriedly tried to sidestep to avoid it, but its massive form limited its ability to turn quickly.
Thud.
The Harpoon grazed Xiaqiu's body, yet one of the spikes still struck true.
Splash.
This spike tore through the scales, leaving a trail of blood along Xiaqiu's side.
Hit again.
Xiaqiu gritted its teeth, its eyes turning a fierce red.
There was no escape.
Injured at the tail, unable to shake him off, he followed closely, attacking again and again, causing her strength to dwindle.
How much power would she have left then?
She couldn't let him drain her energy.
Then it was time to fight.
Kill him, and then leave.
Xiaqiu gritted her teeth, turned around, and began her offensive.
