"You should thank Zhu Qingluan," Bai Feiyang said disdainfully as he observed Fu Jun's arrogant demeanor. "If it weren't for Qingluan seizing this opportunity to eliminate Fu Jun, who knows what disaster he might have brought upon the Fu Family!" That reckless fool, acting so brazenly in front of his father—huh, he truly was asking for trouble.
Even Zhu Qingluan, who had a good relationship with Xuanyuan Rui and Yun Yiqing, always showed respect towards her father, which he greatly admired. His father had once said that if he could learn even a fraction of Zhu Qingluan's abilities, his future would be limitless. Today, it seemed his father's insight was indeed exceptional; he had recognized Zhu Qingluan's uniqueness.
Fu Tianlin knew that Bai Feiyang was right, but after all, they were brothers; there was no lack of familial affection, so he could only remain silent. However, compared to the entire Fu Family, Fu Jun really amounted to nothing.
"A-Song, if anyone dares to make a move, take them down!" Qingluan coldly instructed as she saw the Yamen Runner preparing to act. These Yamen Runners were merely pawns of others, which made their arrogance laughable; they had no idea who they were about to confront. If she weren't still holding that old woman, she would have been the first to deal with that Yamen Runner.
That little scoundrel didn’t even have the right to insult her!
"Understood!" After receiving the lady's command, A-Song and the others perked up, their eyes gleaming with a bloodthirsty light as they fixed their gaze on the Yamen Runners, eager to pounce.
The group from Ruyi Tower, including Little Luo, stood defiantly against the Yamen Runners, leaving everyone dumbfounded. Did these merchants really dare to oppose the authorities? Were they truly willing to risk their standing in the capital?
"You... you want to rebel? A mere Merchant's Daughter dares to defy the authorities and the court?" One of the Yamen Runners was intimidated by their imposing presence and attempted to use his official authority to threaten them.
"The ones defying the court are you!" Yun Nishang could no longer hold back and stepped forward with a cold smile. "Look at this!" She raised her badge high above her head, exuding an air of arrogance that made it hard for anyone to meet her gaze.
The Yamen Runner glanced at it casually but froze when he read the words on the gold plaque. His legs buckled beneath him as he fell to his knees, trembling as he cried out, "P-Princess! Please spare me! Spare me!"
The mention of "Princess" shocked everyone into submission; all knelt down, including Fu Jun. Meanwhile, Qingluan and her group remained unmoved, merely observing the panic-stricken expressions of those around them without a hint of concern.
"You dare call my sister a scoundrel? You truly are asking for death," Yun Nishang stepped forward and kicked him hard. "You've got some nerve! Now tell me—who sent you here to cause trouble?" There was no way they could have come here so early without someone directing them.
"N-No one," the Yamen Runner stammered in fear. "Someone said there was a murder here; I just came to check it out. Really, no one sent me..." He realized how foolish he had been to offend a princess; this time, he was truly doomed.
"If you don't speak up about offending a princess, your entire family will suffer for it. Just tell me who ordered you here, and I will plead with the princess on your behalf; I can ensure only you bear the blame while your family remains innocent!" Qingluan said calmly, her sharp gaze revealing no hint of mercy.
"This..." The Yamen Runner hesitated, thinking of his young child at home, and nervously asked, "Can you make the decision?" How could a mere Merchant's Daughter obtain the princess's consent?
"What she says is my intention," Yun Nishang assured him.
"Yes... ah..." Just as the Yamen Runner was about to speak, he trembled, let out a horrified scream, and collapsed forward, dead on the ground.
"Ah, murder! Murder!" This caused chaos, like a hornet's nest being disturbed; everyone began to panic.
"Calm those people down," Qing Luan instructed with a furrowed brow. It seemed someone was determined to eliminate him but was hesitant to act recklessly.
At the same time that Qing Luan was giving orders, the unconscious old woman finally stirred awake. Her eyes blinked slightly, and she exhaled a breath, which relieved Qing Luan.
"You, come here," seeing that the little Girl was so frightened she couldn't move, Qing Luan frowned in suspicion. How could such a resolute and confident old woman want a timid maid? That shouldn't be her type!
The little Girl trembled as she approached, looking helpless and unsure of what she was being called for.
"Crouch down and support your mistress. Don't shake her around, understand?" Qing Luan instructed firmly.
"Yes, yes," the little Girl quickly nodded and squatted down to follow her orders—oh, as long as she didn't have to touch a dead person, she would do anything.
"Check her and see if she's alright!" The doctor who had been brought over finally found his purpose.
"Yes!" The doctor had been proud before, but after witnessing the fierce aura of the old woman, all his arrogance vanished. He was now trembling with fear.
The chaotic crowd was controlled by A-Song and others; there were no stampedes. No one dared to stand close to the dead Yamen Runner; everyone took a few steps back to maintain their distance!
"Lord Bai, I'll leave the situation here to you," Qing Luan stood up to stretch her limbs, feeling her hands going numb. After a wry smile, she turned to Bai Song and said, "I trust Lord Bai will give me an explanation about the person behind this!" Investigating this matter was his responsibility after all; there was nothing wrong with that.
Bai Song nodded slightly, his expression serious, but inwardly he was cursing: Little Girl, you really go to great lengths to use me, and yet I haven't gained a thing from it. I still have to watch your moods; what have I done to deserve this?
"Wait," Fu Jun called out as Lord Bai was about to leave. "Lord Bai, the outcome is still undecided; you can't leave." If he left and Zhu Qingluan didn't acknowledge it, how would the competition be resolved?
"Miss, my master has woken up!" At that moment, the little Girl suddenly exclaimed in delight, drawing everyone's attention.
"Old lady, are you alright?" Qing Luan asked softly as she half-squatted in front of the newly awakened person, her arms and legs relaxed.
"Was it you who saved me?" the old woman asked quietly.
"It was her who wanted to kill you," Fu Jun interjected before Qing Luan could respond. "You ate her noodles and nearly lost your life; she was trying to harm you!"
Upon hearing Fu Jun's words, the old woman's eyes flashed with displeasure. Her wise gaze met the straightforward Black Eyes as she asked in a deep voice, "What do you have to say for yourself?"
